Just a coincidence but

four of the six game one starters today are lefties, five of eight if we include the series tomorrow, and two of the four game two guys tomorrow are lefties.

I hope Brian Duensing can do to Yankees what he did to us on August 28.

7 IP, 1 R, 3 hits, 8 K

Eff the Yankees. May their postseason ineptitude continue for one more season.

I am rooting for the

Twins but it is going to be very difficult to win against Sabathia, Burnett, and Pettitte.

Especially

With the very David Ecksteinein end of the line-up.

Brendan Harris, Matt Tolbert, Nick Punto. All sub-.700 OPSers. This rotation should eat them alive.

For anyone

that didn’t notice, Padzilla is starting game three for the Dodgers. So Pujols do what is right and kick Vinny the pooh’s ass.

Just listened to the podcast

Are me and Jamey Newberg the only human beans on Earth who think Elvis was the Rangers MVP this season?

The other thing that stood out was JN’s opinion that Scheppers could see the bigs next season.

by shroomer on Oct 7, 2009 2:00 PM CDT reply actions

The Newberg opinion that stood

out to me was that he’s a ‘spend all the money resigning Byrd’ buy along with EG. Agree about Elvis though.

by jcAustin on Oct 7, 2009 2:06 PM CDT up reply actions

I suspect ...

the Byrd thing will take care of itself. No matter what the brass [or JN or EG] want to do with him, the payroll probs vs his market value will probably mean he’s gone.

by shroomer on Oct 7, 2009 2:18 PM CDT up reply actions

That entire segement on Byrd

Made my head hurt. I forget whether it was EG or Jamey who admitted that it wouldn’t be a “fiscally responsible contract” and didn’t care, but that made me facepalm hard.

Hank is 7 runs below a zombie replacement at first base. Do you realize how terrible that is? Zombie’s can’t think, they’re slow, and they’re often ejected from the game for eating opposing baserunners’ brains. - Ben quantifies Hank Blalock

I didn't think

there were any options other than Elvis.

by scoop16 on Oct 7, 2009 2:24 PM CDT up reply actions

It depends...

How do you count the improved defense at 3rd base? Do you add MY’s improvement from 3B last year into Elvis’ value since that move doesn’t happen without Elvis? If you go purely on runs added from batting and stolen bases and runs saved from defense, I would vote Cruz, MY or Kinsler.

Side note: Isn’t Wash one of the major factors in eric chavez’s many gold gloves? Because it sure would be nice to see league average or better defending at 3B next year. Not sure if age will limit range tho..

If Brad Pitt is playing Beane who do you want playing you?

i loved following ubaldo

on my fantasy team this year, so it’d be nice if he can pull it off though he’s down right now

anyways the angels pissed me off so much this year id rather they lose than the yankees, no easy feat. i pray neither of these teams make the world series

MLB playoff Team payrolls

team – ’09 payroll in millions – overall mlb payroll rank
yankees – 201 – 1st
red sox – 122 – 4th
angels – 114 – 6th
phillies – 113 – 7th
dodgers – 100 – 9th
cardinals – 78 – 17th
rockies – 75 – 19th
twins – 65 – 24th

Rangers are 22nd at 68M

All playoff team payrolls went down from 2008 except the Phillies, Rockies and Twins. The Cardinals payroll went down 22 million.

by jcAustin on Oct 7, 2009 3:30 PM CDT reply actions

The Cardinals

are quite the model franchise. They seem to make very astute moves, spend their money in the right places, and consistently win.

One thing I'm wondering

Why is it that the Twins/Yankees series starts today but the Boston/LAA series starts tomorrow? Seems like, since the Twins had to play a game yesterday, they should get some rest, and the Yankees could have an extra day as a reward for having the best record.

by Inkara1 on Oct 7, 2009 4:28 PM CDT reply actions

that didn't make sense to me either

A baseball game is simply a nervous breakdown divided into nine innings.

by NothinG on Oct 7, 2009 4:38 PM CDT up reply actions

It was the Yankees choice for having the best record

they get to pick if they want the long or short series…considering the twins landed in new york @ 3am…I think the yankees wanted to play them today.

by yuhng on Oct 7, 2009 4:44 PM CDT up reply actions

This

This is definitely the case. This was widely speculated and almost certain to be true. The Yankees really did not need the extra day of rest. They rested their starters quite a bit over the last week. They had Monday and Tuesday off. The Twins on the other hand have to be dead tired after last nights 12 inning affair and subsequent flight to New York. The Yankees have a significant advantage under these circumstances.

Screw the Twins

I’m tired of seeing teams with low regular season win totals winning the postseason. I couldn’t stand a team with the same win total and more losses than the Rangers winning it all while the Rangers stay home.

Give me a Yankee-Dodger WS, and let the Yankees win. Give it to the 100+ game winners, rather than the lucky tards.

Feliz says his greatest thrill was striking out Boston Red Sox DH David Ortiz, one of his heroes. Yet, when he called to tell his parents, his mother had a request: Strike out New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez, too.
"So when I did that," Feliz says, "I told my mom, 'There you go. There's your present. Don't ask me to strike anyone else out, OK?'

by octoberty on Oct 8, 2009 9:16 AM CDT up reply actions

The Giants started 2-2 the year they won the Superbowl

The Giants were 9-5 going into a must win game in Buffaflo Week 16, if they lost, they most likely would have missed the playoffs

Have you ever looked at that box score? Or read the play-by-play? It’s very interesting to me, amazing, in fact.

How did Eli go from that, to what he is now?

by octoberty on Oct 8, 2009 9:25 AM CDT up reply actions

Damn shame

Romo has done nothing but move backwards.

This Cowboy team through 4 games has looked almost exactly like I thought it would. A poorly coached group of clowns led by a QB who’d rather be famous than work to be a good QB.

You could predict Eli would be good, about the time you read all those posts by LSJ bagging on him.

Eli had a 73.9 passer rating in 2007

and the lowest point of his career was week 17 of that year.

54th start into his development as a QB, he hit his low point.

Romo is at 43. Giving up would be a shame.

Garrett has to nurse him back to confidence by handing the football to our 3 very talented RBs

by octoberty on Oct 8, 2009 9:57 AM CDT up reply actions

I'm not a Cowboys fan

so I have objectivity on the matter…the Cowboys are very lucky to have Romo.

Gamblers know Dallas was in a really tough spot this past weekend. On the road by itself isn’t easy (especially in Denver) plus it was following a MNF game. Toss in the fact that they were also without FJones or a completely healthy Marion Barber.

Dumbasses who don’t know better think Dallas should have skated but that game plan was simplified and put into the hands of the defense.

It looks like they’ve put handcuffs on Romo and pounded it into his head to not mistakes, which takes away his playmaking ability. This is the same QB we saw v Seattle in the playoff game Dallas lost. He’s thinking too much and being defensive which explains why he was so inaccurate.

Thing is, this team without Felix Jones doesn’t have a HR threat meaning they have to put the game in the hands of the defense and try to win a la Pittsburgh 16-7 or somesuch.

but HUGE for the Big Blue Wrecking Crew. Kemp’s 1st innning dinger set the tone.

Loved the game last night because Vin Scully, the best there ever was, had the Dodger radio call on XM.

Tonight should be a different kind of game because the first 5-6 innings are going to be played at twilight so offense should be waaaay down.
