OT: Naked Ranger picture

I don't know if this has been talked about yet, but it was so shocking I just needed to share.  We got our ESPN Magazine today and it’s The Body Issue.  I think the best way to describe it would be to say that it's a semi-nude collection of athletes, though the term is loosely defined.  Some are actually doing their sports, some are just posing; some are wearing clothes, some are posed with 'stategery.'  It's kind of interesting to see who they picked for it, like one of a table tennis player.  Anyways, my wife actually looked through it before I did and was showing me a picture of a woman with one leg and guess who I noticed on the page across from her…..

….

NELSON CRUZ!?!?! So odd. He’s holding a bat and is sweaty (most of the athletes are).  It's weird that is who got picked...I guess Tommy Hunter was busy.

Here’s a quote from Michael Young: “Nelly goes about 6’3” 230 lbs and is country-strong. We were in the weight room one day, and some guys were benching 315 lbs. Nelly walks in and says, “Let me hop in.” And he just starts pushing up 315 right away. Without stretching. As a warmup set. That’s just not what normal people do."

Link, though it's behind an Insider wall.

Remember the day

Cruz “accidently” topped an offspeed pitch – like a rocket past the shortstop, between the outfielders, and caromed about 40 feet off the wall? Try – just try – to duplicate that!

More facts for the Cruz haters

Nelson Cruz’s WAR was 3.6 this year (3rd highest amongst Rangers’ batters and 56th in the Majors. It should be noted WAR takes fielding into consideration as well.) and his VORP was 26.9 (4th highest amongst Rangers’ batters). His .856 OPS ranked 17th among all Major League Outfielders and 54th among all Major Leaguers.

Also wherever this crap started about Nelson Cruz being a bad defensive outfielder it needs to stop now. This year his UZR was 11.8 in Right Field which led all Right Fielders in the Major Leagues. By comparison Ichiro Suzuki was second with a UZR of 10.1 and J.D. Drew 3rd with a UZR of 9.7.

Nelson Cruz in baseball figures was worth $16.4 million to the Rangers this season (according to Fangraphs.com). He was paid $408,070 this season plus an underwhelming $10,000 as a bonus for making the All Star team.

If you don’t know what these stats are, please stop talking and please start researching. I went to the Rangers final home game and there were idiots 2 sections over from me (I was behind home plate) starting the wave in the top of the 8th with the score 5-3 and the bases loaded with 2 outs. Lets stop being a stupid baseball town and learn what the hell is going on.

If you think Nelson Cruz is a problem for the Texas Rangers than you sir are showing your ass crack!

Amen on the wave (and Cruz)

The last game I went to, there was one of those annoying guys who stood at the bottom of our section and “lead” everyone into doing the wave. It was during the Minnesota series, and a 4-3 game.

That's why they call them business sox

I now

very much like Thundercat32 and his ideas.

"Back on the scene, with a gangsta lean" RW
"When you have a weapon on your shoulder like he has, you can be cool." RW on Perez
And the little bastard threw it for a swinging strike three in a 3-2 count. He’s blessed. And ballsy.

Cruz

I got my copy of the magazine today too- which cover did you get? I got the one with Sarah Reinertsen. Some great photos, though a little more of Zdeno Chara and Oguchi Onyewu than I probably wanted to see.

And yeah, you can totally see Cruz’ ass crack.

I didn’t see her picture in my copy. That sucks- I have a bit of a sports crush on her…

Never mind

I didn’t see the “naked athletes” section after all the black & white photos. Very nice.
