What kind of contract will Chone Figgins get?
What a great player. I know the Rangers don't really have a place for him but amidst all the talk of resigning Marlon Byrd and thinking about what kind of contract he'll get, I was watching the Angels/Red Sox game and started wondering what Figgins might get. He can play center, and wherever the hell else you want him to play, and he'll hit .300 and steal 40 bases. He's 31, a career .293 hitter with a .404 OBP. Maybe he gets caught stealing more than you'd like, and maybe Marlon has more 'leadership' mojo than he does, but who wouldn't want this guy on their team? I guess you could say a utility guy shouldn't get a big contract but at this point he reminds me of a Mark DeRosa, a guy a lot of teams would want. I say he gets 3yrs/30M and maybe 4 years from some team (probably the Angels.) What do you think?

he may be a utility guy, in the sense that he has positional versatility
but he is also an everyday player. I think that his versatility should only enhance his value. If I were a GM, I would be looking at his OBP and baserunning as good things he brings.
One thing to note, his worst defensive season was 2006, when he played 96 games in CF and about 120 in the outfield. Since converting to basically an everyday 3B role he has contributed much more defensively, so it a team would seem to be best allocating resources if they signed him to be an everyday third baseman. I could see maybe 3/28 all the way up to a 4/48 if team spending is more robust this winter.

Yep
He’s a total of -12.6 runs for his career in the OF according to UZR. In fact, he hasn’t really played any OF since 2006 (save for 11 games in RF in 2007).
He is worth 21 runs in UZR for his career at third base and just had his best year ever there defensively, but that’s also literally the only position he’s been above replacement at for his career. So unless you’re signing him to play there exclusively you’re not really getting an above average defensive player at all.
Hank is 7 runs below a zombie replacement at first base. Do you realize how terrible that is? Zombie’s can’t think, they’re slow, and they’re often ejected from the game for eating opposing baserunners’ brains. - Ben quantifies Hank Blalock

He's Mark DeRosa
if Mark DeRosa pronounced his name Shawn.

hopefully the Angels won't be able to resign
Figgins, Abreu, or Guerrero (especially Guerrero for our sake). Lackey is meh. He is a complete douche, but we crush him.

Yeah but Lackey
does help them against other teams. When is the recession going to hit the angels?

Doesn't matter to me if Lackey is good...
The look on Lackey’s face every time he gets crushed by the Rangers is priceless. That and the Scocia face are the best parts of an Angels game.

My dream
is that next yr this yr’s situation is reversed. We knock them out of the playoffs at our place with about 6-7 games left. That would be nice. Think about the looks on their faces then ha

Abreu is the guy I'm afraid of them resigning.
He basically came in and helped revamp their offensive approach this year.
Vlad? He’s getting old and gimpy.

His career OBP is not .404
It’s .363. As a Rangers fan, I wouldn’t want him on the team as it is currently put together. There is no place for him here.

3/$30M???
When I first read that I thought, NO WAY….but, ya know, he might.
As far as big contracts go , ‘utility’ is usually a hindrance, rather than a help……but as an everyday 3Bman, maybe.
