ESPN is reporting that Brett Favre used to play for the Packers!

I did not know this
It’d be could to see him play in Lambo as an opponent, but who knows if that will ever happen

let's see everyone's pick o' the wk
Mine is Jax +3 against Tennessee. I just don’t see Tennesse beating anybody, especially with Vince Young starting at QB.

So
People don’t understand why living in Houston when Vince Young came out, and reaction around here when people passed on him, have made me so negative about VY.
Here’s the perfect example of what I’m talking about…Richard Justice has a blog post up saying that, even knowing what we know now, the Texans screwed up by taking Mario Williams instead of Vince Young. Read it, and the comments from all the people agreeing with him.
And also read this post from March, 2007, and all the comments.
After 2 years straight of hearing that every time you listened to people talk sports in the town you lived in (and make no mistake, sports talk in Houston revolved around the Texans passing on Vince Young for just about all of 2006 and 2007), it would make you a bit jaded, as well.
by Adam J. Morris on Nov 1, 2009 10:02 AM CST reply actions 0 recs
how is he not embarrassed?
Everything that can be measured tells you the Texans made the right call. They didn’t. They just got lucky that a bad decision turned out right.
pathetic.

The Houston media...
…was to VY as Josey is to Blalock leading up to the 2006 draft. Rich Lord, who is a long-time drive-time host on the biggest sports station down here, claimed that the question wasn’t whether VY would be successful or not, but was simply whether he’d be a many-time Pro Bowler and a Hall of Famer, or if he’d be the Michael Jordan of the NFL, the guy who took over and transformed the game.
Guys like Richard Justice (who I think, more often than not, is pretty reasonable) and John McClain were saying that those of us who questioned VY only did so because we weren’t in the locker room, and didn’t see what a leader he was, how charismatic he was, the impact he had on his teammates and how he made them better. Every sickening thing you hear about Tim Tebow or Derek Jeter, the MSM in Houston was saying about Vince.
And then Jim McIngvale, “Mattress Mac,” who owns Gallery Furniture and is a big time UT and Houston sports backer, came on the radio one day and ripped Bob McNair personally, saying that McNair was blowing it because adding Young would double the value of the Texans franchise because of the winning attitude he’d bring and because of how much passion and goodwill he’d generate among the fan base because of what a great leader and great person he was.
It is pissing me off just sitting here typing all this. It was insane.
Maybe Cahill will check in and weigh in on this, since I’m pretty sure he was here at the time as well.

I am sure Young never struggled at the game
until the NFL. It is easy to be a leader when you are the best athlete on the field. Houston made the right pick.

UT
The program there — particularly under Mack Brown — has developed a reputation for coddling and sheltering the players, such that they come to the NFL a bit soft and not ready to face adversity.

There aren't
A whole lot of great UT players in the league right now.
Benson, Davis might be the best two, and they really speak to your point because it took them several years to start producing. Ced and Michael Griffin are pretty good, Derrick Johnson is a bust…who else? Guys like Finley, Roy and Jammer are decent to “meh” players.

hearing all the UTexas Homers dogpiling the Texans for years afterwards. I also heard it from 2 of my brothers who are UT grads.
There is no player I wish more failure on than Vince Young, and nothing more rewarding than seeing Mario become a monster.

My God
That first article is bafflingly retarded. Besides everything else, in what universe did Young look like a “franchise quarterback in the making” that first year? He barely completed 50% of his passes. The only reason he made the Pro Bowl is because he was Vince Young the Longhorn Hero and had made a couple important rushing plays (that only came after he had fucked up the play as a passer).
Just an embarrassing article.

Fake credentials?
What are yours, exactly? That you know some Italian-Americans?
You’re trying to tell me that regional dialects make me wrong, which is about as retarded as saying that some hillbilly elongating every syllable makes it correct Standard American English. Sorry. Same goes in Spanish—there are, of course, dialects. Some say words differently, but there is a “correct” pronunciation, or at least a more correct pronunciation.
And please, tell me more about this magical outside world of Chicago. You’re a dipshit who argues by intimidation.

chicago is where i am now
I used to live in baltimore. and the school i went to, 30% came from long island/manhattan and about half those were italian americans. I’ve spent a couple thanksgivings at italian american households. It’s not a big deal and it’s not some experience that most people couldn’t have obtained in texas.
the point is that i had it and you think you can disagree with me because “spanish is a lot like italian.” seriously?
And the people who say moozarell are not hillbillies or uneducated – it’s just a different dialect.
and actually, i didn’t even think about the number of people that i’ve heard say moozarell in chicago – which also has an absurdly large sicilian/italian population.

I guess if you won’t believe me, that’s on you. But no, I lived somewhere quite a bit further than Baltimore.
My reason wasn’t dumb, actually. It wasn’t even a reason—it was intuition that was confirmed after you had to storm in like a douchenozzle to proclaim your correctness.

Speaking of Mark Brunell
I can’t think of him without thinking of Billy Joe Hobert, who he split time with. Hobert lost his college eligibility — which hurt his draft status — by borrowing $50K from some guy, with the understanding he’d pay it back when he went pro.
And what did he use the money for?
With the first $25,000 he bought a 1991 Camaro for about $9,000 and paid off a $5,000 loan on a Chevy Blazer owned by his wife, Heather, and a $2,900 loan on a Hyundai he owned. He also purchased car insurance, used $1,000 to buy a semiautomatic pistol and a hunting rifle, and paid back $2,500 to a woman he had lived with during a brief separation from Heather. With the second $25,000, he upgraded to a ’92 Camaro, installed a $4,000 stereo system in the car and partied his way through the northwest. “I just pulled it out and paid cash wherever I went,” Hobert told the Times. “People must have thought I was the richest guy in town.”
As if the fact that his name is “Billy Joe” isn’t enough proof that he was a redneck, looking at what he spent the money on pretty well seals the deal.

Why are they booing?? The Packers pushed him out
by tyd3311 on Nov 1, 2009 3:23 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
Because he's a giant douche
He dicked around and wouldn’t make up his mind if he wanted to play, and then when he decided he wanted to play at the 11th hour, was whiny because the Packers didn’t just roll out the red carpet and name him the starter.
And then he went to Minnesota — the Packers’ primary rival — as an extra screw-you to the organization.
They should boo him.

AJM is retarded
Yeah, I mean who would just name Brett Favre the starter. I mean that guy’s never done anything in the league, especially for GB. Best to go with some unknown instead.
The Pack pushed him out and I hope he gets revenge…
And he went to the Vikings because the packers screwed HIM. Not sure how you twist that into…“an extra screw you” to the Packers…
But I guess, he should be sure to stay out of the division, you know, in deference to the Packers who treated him so well…I mean, just because the Packers didn’t want him anymore, who does he think he is just going to any team he wants. The Packers should still control where he goes.
Anyways, I’m just so sick of hearing how good Aron Rodgers is already, personally. A QB who has done nothing in the league so far.
by Sharky on Nov 1, 2009 4:02 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
It's pretty funny
For being a liberal, how AJM fosters a “hate the free agent who leaves after getting an insulting non-offer from the Rangers” mentality around here. Especially regarding any who leave the Rangers (except his faves like Arod of course, ok lets say home grown FA’s).
That’s not very liberal of him. He’s supposed to support the worker over those icky owners, isn’t he?

Nice win for Cowboys
Damn though, our schedule suddenly turned brutal.
2X Philly, NYG, @N.O.,GB, San Diego?
All those are tough teams. Wow. Playoffs not assured.
Giants are starting to feel losing Spags, happened late.
No truth to the rumor Houston brought in 9 new offensive coordinators this week. It’s all about the talent down there. The fact all they do is hire OC’s, well that means nothing obviously. I mean anybody can playcall for that team. Hiring Gary Kubiak, then Mike Sherman, then Kyle Shanahan, just coincidence.
by Sharky on Nov 1, 2009 4:10 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
BTW
Since I love to argue this, I may write up a post about how much talent on the Cowboys is from the Parcells era.
Although Jerry is the GM and ALL the talent here is his doing, there are those that persist with the Parcells nonsense.
Anyways, any team is going to get most of it’s player from 2.5-7 years ago, naturally, since those are prime career years, so unfortunately a lot of the Cowboys roster will be from then, and would be regardless of the coach.
Anyway, according to my preliminary examination, 11 of the Cowboys 22 starters are not from Parcells 4 years, at least. A couple like Flozell Adams predate Parcells.
You could argue most of the key cogs are, Romo, Witten, Austin, Barber, and on defense Ware and Newman. Romo and Witten certainly should be here a long time, one would hope.
Still, even for only being 2.5 years out, a lot of the starters have already turned over, as is normal in the NFL.
On offense, some key skill players are also already not from Parcells era, Roy Williams, Felix Jones, Tashard Choice.
Anyways, I dont even want to give credence to that Parcells stupidity, and Jerry is the GM period, but it was kind of interesting just to look at.

Man. Rough week.
First the 60 pt (in our league) my opponents defense put up. Then checking in to see how incredibly awful my picks were this week. How ’d everyone else do with the picks?
As for the VIkes-Pack game, I’m rooting against GB. Was born in Minnesota, so I sort of root for them. EIther way, they are an entertaining team. I’ve been impressed with how much their WR’s have emerged with Favre, especially Sidney Rice. However, Troy just called the Viking LBers as good as any 3 in the league. Uh…really? Greenway has been great this year, but what about Leiber and Henderson scream elite? I think the Houston Texans might even have a better LB core, especially when you consider the difference in D-lines.
If Brad Pitt is playing Beane who do you want playing you?

but my biggest points were on Jax and Arizona, which are both looking horrible right now.

I love to see the media script on the Cowboys fall apart
You know, they cant win cus Wade is sloppy and undisciplined…that sort of redneck hick easy answer.
Except oops, they are.
You know Cowlishaw and JJT hate this almost as much as AJM…
JJT is a real Cowboys fan at least, I’ll say that. He may be an annoying know it all idiot, but I can tell he loves to watch the games. Cowlishaw, Galloway, those guys could honestly care less really, except to be cynical assholes.
I mean, Cowlishaw wrote up the column right after the KC game about, fire Wade now!…yeah that worked out.
I’m pretty scared about the Philly game, since the Cowboys have been so snakebit in “big” games lately, and it’s on the road. But at least to a certain extent we go in with house money imo.
I also half expect us to win, just because nobody is expecting it.
Anyways, my script on this team going into this year was, Garrett will maintain a good offense as always, but with Phillips now the full time DC the defense should get a lot better and result in a good team. It may have scared me for a while but as of now that’s basically working out.

This has to suck so much for the Texans fans though. With the RB situation being all crazy and OD out, seems like they’re basically the Andre Johnson’s now…

But quite winnable.
The league’s a funny place. I would’ve discount Chicago, but I have a weird feeling they get it back a little and they’re always tough at Soldier Field. Arizona seems up-and-down, ranging from meh to really good. Cincy might be the least winnable, IMO.
So exactly what can be said about the Giants? They might sneak a playoff spot at this rate, but I really don’t know, I suck at NFL analysis.

My opponent in FFB started Steve Smith (Car) and he got 19 points. How?
He got 56 receiving yards, 1 TD and 17 rushing yards. There are no partial points in this league. I can’t figure this out.

It’s him or Awesome-Wah, but you can just throw to the other side of the field for the Raiders CB. Revis (CB-Jets) should get some love, too. Still, hard to argue with Allen for the win…
