Jim Reeves is retiring

Longtime Fort Worth Star-Telegram writer and columnist Jim Reeves is retiring.

Ray Buck has the story up at the S-T.

It isn't clear when Reeves' retirement date is effective, but regardless, we've got one less long-time sports voice out there in D/FW.

He was better than Grandpa Urine.

Back in the day Revo was a good writer.

boy, I hope you guys can weather the storm from the youngster when you get old in your job. Like the woman that was shopping for chickens and she would hold them up and sniff the arm pits and legs of the chicken and pronounce them not fresh. After doing that for about 4 chickens and all failing, the butcher asked her if she could pass that same test.

There are effusive writers who don’t accept the notion that their work (or opinions) are subject to sniff tests.

"He uses statistics as a drunken man uses lamp-posts... for support rather than illumination." - Andrew Lang (1844-1912) also -

"Telephone, n. An invention of the devil which abrogates some of the advantages of making a disagreeable person keep his distance."

Don't let the door

hit you on the ass on the way out.

Honestly, I wouldn’t mind if both D/FW papers got rid of all their columnists, and just employed beat writers.

"I don't condone steroids or any other type of growth hormones or anything else, but I could care less, and, for the most part, I don't think the fans give a (bleep). The people that care about it are the people that probably don't like baseball," - Jim Leyland

You're thinking of TR

Reeves still likes to incite occasional shitstorms. Like the whole “MLB is running the Rangers” thing, for example.

My first reaction was "too bad it's not Galloway instead"

But thinking about it, Reeves can be just as whacked as Grandpa Urine sometimes, but thanks to the fact that he’s not that way all the time, he has a tiny bit of credibility left, unlike RG. Which means it’s harder to figure out what’s fiction and what has an inkling of truth when reading him.

So maybe this is better than Galloway retiring.

I feel the same way

most of you do about the pot stirring tendancies that Reeves exhibitied. Concerning his low profile and oft-times light subject matter, he’s had very bad health problems in the last few years, curtailing his ability to actively follow the teams. Like multiple bypasses, each being at least quadruple.
