Around SBN: Jeremy Lin's Game-Winner Was Incredible, Worth Remembering

I'd be ok with that possible swap of overpaid players. We need Bradley's patience and bat much more than we need Millwood's average pitching ability. Thoughts?

How about Cruz for Bradley with the Cubs paying all but 3 million total of his remaining contract?

People say losing Bradley from last years squad cost us so much well Cruz wasn’t a part of last years squad until September so if we replace him with Bradley for a full season we should be fine…right?

And we get to keep Millwood which I think we definitely need to do unless we plan on signing some other veteran who will give us around 200 IP and an ERA around 4

I would do Millwood

for Bradley. It might mean a small step back for the rotaiton but in the long run it would be better.

i don't see trading someone valuable

for Bradley, who almost has to be traded. there are rumors that fellow players won’t even talk to him. Millwood does have value, especially in the first half.

If you trade Cruz for Bradley, you are trading the superior defensive player (which was a big reason our team succeeded this year), the guy with more speed, and more power. so, out of the 5 tools of a baseball player we would trade 4 and gain 1. Not a good idea. I only trade Cruz if we get an ace pitcher in the package.

A baseball game is simply a nervous breakdown divided into nine innings.

Depends on the finances.

Hypothetically, if Chicago eats something like 13mm and leaves the Rangers with 8mm for the remaining two years AND takes most or all of Millwood’s 2010 contract…sure.

I don’t see how anyone could definitively say no without seeing how the contracts are worked out.

Hey, Al here from Bleed Cubbie Blue.

You’re forgetting that the Rangers owe Millwood a $15 million signing bonus, payable from 2011-2015.

If the Cubs assume that money, you’re talking about $21 million going to the Rangers and $25 million to the Cubs.

You guys take Aaron Miles ($2.7 million in 2010) in addition to Bradley and we’ll call it even. Deal?

Crap, didn't see that.

Throw a prospect in with Millwood? I dunno, I’m terrible with hypothetical trades.

Salaries are the key...

assuming the Rangers end up saving money in the deal I would rather have Bradley than Millwood. I feel like we can field 5 starters that will give us similar production to Millwood, where as the dropoff to DH is greater than the dropoff from Millwood to Feliz or whoever gets the starter spot vacated by Millwood

my better is better than your better.

Millwood

If the Rangers have 5 starters next year who do what Millwood did this year (200 IP with a 3.67 ERA) they’re going to win 100 games and probably the World Series.

I think a lot of people are forgetting how good he was this year, even with the second-half drop-off.

At the same time

it’s not about how good or not good Millwood was this year, but how likely he’ll be able to reproduce those #s next year. Given his low BABIP, his second half regression, and the disturbing uptick in walks and plunge in strikeouts, I don’t think first half Millwood will ever exist again. Given the dearth of bats in the FA and trade markets, I don’t see how you do not do this deal if it’s presented.

Is this correct?

the 15 mil bonus? Do you have a link or source for that? I wasn’t aware of that at all.

And no thanks on Aaron Miles.

Well damn...

not sure how I missed that.

Still, 3 mil a year isn’t going to break the bank for the Rangers. I think it’s spread out enough. I don’t think I make that deal if I’m JD.

Pass...

the Rangers are going to need a decent starter like Millwood to eat up a lot of innings this year with young pitchers around like Feliz, Holland, and Hunter and guys like McCarthy and Harrison who have had some injuries. Millwood may not be great, but he’s not bad, and he has been able to consistently go 200 innings or so every year.

I know the Rangers will have to give up something to get Bradley if the Cubs are going to eat half of his contract, but Millwood is a little too much imo.
