Eh, I feel really iffy about the Packers game.

I really don’t know why, because logically, even at Lambeau, the Cowboys should win.

Remember to retire Fin's number, Mark.

by jonthefon on Nov 15, 2009 2:57 AM CST reply actions

I dunno

It’s weird that the line started at pick, and has only moved to Cowboys -3.

I mean, you would think the Cowboys would be favored by more, maybe like 6.

But I want to know how people post that dynamic schedule, with all hyperlinks, (tickets, travel) and such in official GD threads???

by Sharky on Nov 15, 2009 7:37 AM CST up reply actions

Cowboys should win though imo

Cause the defense is playing so well. Should get some drive killing sacks on Rodgers and some INT’s, to go with the usual solid offense. Should.

I mean Miles Austin’s killshot in the Philly game was great, but it was only so monumental because basically, you could tell it was going to be very hard for Phlly to score as that game progressed. And that was Philly with the alledged fearsome offense and all DeShaun Jackson’s speedburner 50 yd TD’s going in.

by Sharky on Nov 15, 2009 7:56 AM CST up reply actions

No, it wasn't Sharky.
And that was Philly with the alledged fearsome offense and all

Brian Westbrook has been out for them, dumb shit. The guy nearly averaging 5 yards a carry.

Uhh

So, Jeremy Maclin, LeSean McCoy, DeSheaun Jackson, were chopped liver?? Pretty sure all I heard was the media hyping those guys up.

“Dumbshit”

And 5 yards a carry, boy, that’s only 3 yards less than Felix Jones was averaging. Big whoop.

And whatever odds were listed in the DMN listed the opening odds at pick.

by Sharky on Nov 15, 2009 4:46 PM CST up reply actions

Smells like a trap

and that bookies are dying for people to take the Cowboys.

I don't know

The general rule of thumb is, if the line moves significantly and there’s no injury or other big event causing the line to move, pick against the move.

OT: one morning i was listening to espn radio

and there was this national idiot, that was was talking about cutting down the sizer of the NHL. In that, he included the Stars as one of those teams whose fans dont really care about them and to just disband them. I wwas wondering what everyone here thought about that? If you live in the DFW area, do you care about the hockey team??

i guess i "care"

about them, and would hate for them to just be got rid of i wouldnt call myself a fan, especially one who follows them day in and day out

but the people who do follow the team are extremely passionate, i worked at the AAC for a season and you could definitely tell they cared about them. plus it appears that playing hockey down here has grown exponentially over the past decade

The Stars are a badass team

Playoffs I think 8 of the last 10 years. A few conference finals during that time. The lockout seriously hurt the NHL and it did hurt the Stars but they are bouncing back and have put together a very nice young nucleus that the fans can support for years to come

We are down a FG chill out

Our O-line hasn’t been able to protect long enough for us to run deep routes or anything long enough to get a 1st down on 3rd and 23. It was going to take a catch and run to get the 1st down there.

Calling a play to get you 8-10 and possibly 15 or 20+ is alot better than a deep pass play where the likelihood of sack is high and you lose 6-10 yards.

Hidden yardgae is the key there

When your offense is playing like shit ...

give up plays are not going to get them moving. You run quick slants there and take advantage of man coverage. You give your wideouts a chance to catch the ball on the run. It’s a quick hit play, you don’t need a lot of time. If you hit it right you’ve got a big play.

by Athos on Nov 15, 2009 5:32 PM CST up reply actions

Like you are with a slant

A slant and a WR screen are both give up plays there. A bad throw on the WR screen means the guy falls down and you gain nothing. Chance of a turnover is very very low. Bad throw on a slant has a much much higher chance of a turnover since you are throwing into the middle of the defense

If he loses or doesn’t challenge, then they have to snap the ball again. And bad things can happen everytime you snap the ball. Always take the points, or try to, in that situation.

I have 4 things to say about this game

1) Bad games can happen to any team, and its pretty funny that some people will kill a team for not showing up to a random november game. but if they had won 44-0 and lost in the playoffs the same people would later say all the october/november games were meaningless. The game did suck though.

2) The injuries are the most significantly thing to take away from this game. That could hurt.

3) Screw you Roy. Let a critical pass go right through your hands and hit you in the face… and then seemingly complain about the pass being high? IT HIT YOU IN THE FACE! Maybe he meant something else but I doubt it. The TD just annoyed me.

4) That review rule needs to be changed.

the preceding post was a great success.

What would it take to get Okung?

Every game that I have been able to watch when the OK State Cowboys were playing, I have been extremely impressed with the play of Russell Okung. So far he is projected to be a top 5 draft pick, I wonder how much ammo it would take for the Cowboys to trade up and get him? How about this, 1st round 2010 + 2rd round 2010 + 2nd round 2011 + Adams (as a throw in). Cowboys get top 5 pick 2010 + 3rd round 2011. Cowboys really need to get younger and better on the o-line; Okung could be the answer at LT for 10+ years.

by casew on Nov 15, 2009 7:31 PM CST reply actions

No

That’s really not even close to enough to get it done. Even the flawed draft value chart says so.

Okung is not the guy to shoot your wad for, anyway. He’s good, but he’s not a Joe Thomas or Jake Long.

by brettgardner on Nov 15, 2009 8:09 PM CST up reply actions

Figured so.

Probably take two mid to lower first round picks 2010 + few more draft picks. I don’t get into all the comparisons to current pro players, because lets face it, they are already established. You never can tell what players will be a bust coming out of college, but the success rate for 1st round o-linemen seems to have been fairly solid the last few years. I still think that Okung could be a great offensive lineman, he just doesn’t have the notoriety of coming from a supposed prestigious school like Wisconsin or Michigan. Even though both of those schools have went downhill.

by casew on Nov 15, 2009 8:27 PM CST reply actions

x

I made the comparison to those guys more because of their prospectiness coming out of college, not necessarily because of the way they’ve played in the NFL so far.

In other words, Thomas and Long were guys everybody projected to be great. Okung hasn’t gotten those same reviews. This is just a down year for offensive lineman.

by brettgardner on Nov 15, 2009 8:40 PM CST up reply actions

Agree.

This draft class is pretty weak in the O-line department. There’s Russell Okung and Trent Williams and that’s really about it as far as true stud tackles go, and I don’t know that I would even put either one of those guys in that category. Our starters are fine, we just need better depth there. Our backups flat out suck. I think we need to find some quality depth on both lines, but I still think our biggest need is a ball-hawking free safety.

He was juggling, when he brought the ball down the ball wasn’t close to the first down line. He was in midair getting pushed back and already behind the first down line.

has talked about that alot in the past. He praises Belichek for it in his article today

And every one of ya'll

Would be calling Wade Phillips the dumbest coach who ever lived, if he made the same 4th down call Belichick did. And there wouldn’t be a rush of stathead columns defending him in the media afterwards, either.

Just sayin’

Always going for it on 4th down

Bullshit, If you really did that in a game, you’d find yourself down about 28-0 very quickly. Just not make a first down deep in your own territory, which would pretty much be the default outcome, and then they would likely score of course.

Believing you should always go for it on 4th down is underestimating defense. Most times defense will prevail, and in sports, the macro trend is for that to increase. Scoring will be down long term in pretty much any sport with stable rules (eg, hockey, soccer). Of course the NFL can mitigate some of that with pro offense rule changes, but the trend remains.

All I can say is fuck MJD

Dude’s carried two fantasy teams for me this year, but his knee-down cost me a matchup. I lost by 0.24 points.

Remember to retire Fin's number, Mark.
