OT: Mavs vs. Bucks
!!!!
I shouldn't be this excited for the Mavs beating such a crappy Bucks team but that whole game was such a clusterf starting with the third quarter.
And while Drew Gooden has done much to improve his stock with me, Barea is on notice. Beaubois can't grow up fast enough.
But Dirk really is the man. This is the best I think I've seen him. When he's on, he's on.
Oh, and Brandon Jennings will be amazing but you knew that today you could get him to make some rookie mistakes. He seemed to take missing that shot a little hard.

Mavs beating such a crappy Bucks team
Don’t agree with this, the Bucks are a decent team. Jennings is going to be good player.
But yeah as I said in the other thread, more Roddy and less JJ.
Dirk is the man as always.

I agree
I think the Bucks are pretty decent. Definitely not coming out of the East, but not a bottom-feeder either…. Jennings is fun to watch, he might just be my new non-mavs favorite player. It was great to see Roddy shut him down though

the Bucks aren't a bottom tier team
but they are clearly inferior to the Mavs. The mavs should have put this game away by 20. I want to blame it completely on barea but I think that is a little unfair.
But the bucks are totally mediocre. No true center, very little low post scoring. They actually got lucky hitting all those threes. If they had hit a normal percentage, this game wouldn’t have been close

I think if Bogut stays healthy
he’s going to get himself to a low-post threat. He’s started well.

Yep...
Bogut is legit. I think he can be a 20/10 or 19/9 type guy in this league.
He may not be a dominant center and needs to work on his post game still, but he can do a lot facing the basket that most NBA centers can’t do.

WIthout
Dampier, Marion (in the second half), and Howard, and also playing on a back end of a back to back, I doubt the Mavs are really that much superior then the Bucks.

I mean
they were up by 18 in the third. And the Bucks did shoot a ridiculous percentage from 3 point land. Seriously, I think if Carlisle plays Beaubois instead of Barea, this game ends in regulation by 10-14.

man
i didn’t realize there was another thread.
by ab03 on Nov 16, 2009 10:12 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
I didn't realize
everyone feels the same about Barea. That makes me feel better. For all of the talk about Carlisle stealing games for Dallas last year (and appropriately so), his insistence on playing Barea with Kidd and Terry almost cost them the game. Losing Marion obviously left him few options, and it has to be a little scary to put Beaubois out there in key situations, but he has consistently outplayed Barea by a ton lately. And the matchup with Jennings made it especially glaring.
by Brett Perryman on Nov 16, 2009 10:17 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
I'm not sure how the matchups would have worked
but I would have rather had a bigger lineup in there. Humphries looked like he was playing well when he was in. take your chances with our bigger guards covering their guys.
But I’m hoping Carlisle sent a message to Barea or is starting to think that Beaubois is passing Barea on the depth chart. Playing a rookie all of OT speaks volumes.
by ab03 on Nov 16, 2009 10:21 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
For some reason playing in Wisconsin is not kind to Dallas teams
The Cowboys have only won once there and I heard Followill say on The Ticket the other day the Mavs have their worst win percentage of any road place there.
How did the Rangers do against the Brewers when we used to play them?
Oh and what a shot by Dirk at the end. Didn’t see the rest of the game but the OT Dirk was the man

I just remember last season
that terrible blowout the Mavs copped, where the Bucks shot like 70% in the second and third quarters, ended up with about 130.

it was so annoying. they talked as if charlie villenueva was a god.

My theory on the Mavs lack of success there
is that they play alot of games as the 2nd night of a back to back. I’m too lazy to actually verify this so I’m just gonna throw it out there.

Awesome by Dirk yet again
I am so beaten down by Jose Barea right now. Thank goodness that Beaubois was a viable option for OT.
by Brett Perryman on Nov 16, 2009 9:57 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
But Beaubois is still a rookie
taking a reverse layup on the fast break to start OT was not advisable. Of course, I’d rather live with that then Barea, who just looks painfully short and slow. Did he actually get slower?
by ab03 on Nov 16, 2009 10:01 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
He looks slower to me. Of course he just looks pretty terrible period to me, so I’m a little biased.

JJB
has played just awful so far. If it continues I can’t see how Carlisle can continue to throw him out there in key situations.

I'm torn
So far, he’s been a beast on the boards—even to the point of knocking the shit out of other Mavs to get the ball—but his lapses into Stackhouse syndrome are troubling.
Overall, though, I think I agree that he’s been a very nice addition for a throw-in.

Hmm
Well, they were:
1. GS: Dunleavy and Rush
Indy: Ellis
2. GS: Harpring and Miles
Utah: Maggette
3. GS: Diaw and Ajinca
Charlotte: Ellis
It’s weird. There aren’t a whole lot of teams that would fit well with Monta.
by brettgardner on Nov 17, 2009 11:34 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Dunleavy, Rush
I also came up with that one. If Dunleavy could come back and play a little bit, and put up some decent numbers, it makes sense.
by tyd3311 on Nov 18, 2009 7:31 AM CST up reply actions 0 recs
No kidding;
I just spent 30 minutes with the trade machine and couldn’t find a single team I thought would be interested in Ellis except the Pacers and Bobcats. Maybe 76ers or the Magic (both of those are a pretty big stretch though)?
There is a remarkable crop of established or promising scoring point guards.

On Dec. 15th
Toronto needs stronger back-court play. Hedo was never a good fit there. I’d trade him and Derozan for Monta. Pretend Hedo didn’t just sign there, it makes so much sense.

Dirk was amazing last night
and Drew Gooden keeps doing good things (17-11).
Count me in as interested in Tim Thomas (who looked active) but the thing that keeps worrying me about the Mavs is their age and sure enough after making that strong move to the hoop and missing a dunk, Thomas was limping around the court.

Meh
Tim Thomas isn’t an injury machine, and he’s realistically the 11th man, so anything he contributes is gravy.
Gooden is impressing the shit out of me these last 3 games. He’s playing monster defense, and generally letting the offense come to him instead of forcing up dumb shots. He might pull a Diop on Dampier when he comes back.

As great as Dirks been it pisses me off watching him every night this season
because it makes me wonder how good he could have been the past 6 or 7 years if he had taken the summers off instead of playing year round for Germany. he seems to have a spring in his step this year that he hasn’t had in a long long time. Usually early in the season he seems slow and plods along but this year hes come out on fire. It can’t be just because that whole tranny pregnant chick thing is behind him
