Pedro wants to pitch all of 2010. Interested?
So according to ESPN Pedro felt so good pitching during the playoffs and World Series he wants to pitch all season in 2010. Last year he signed a 1 million dollar deal with Philly to pitch half the season. With all the talk of signing Sheets I think I would rather give Pedro a shot and it would probably cost the same if not less than what Sheets would. So who here would be interested in Pedro on a one year deal?

We got to start a catch-all offseason fanpost…

especially for stuff not directly linked to the rangers
not that i don’t want to hear about it but a new fanpost for each rumor is too much.
and we’re probably not signing anybody
Or just a catch-all bigsteve's bad ideas post
including the trade Cruz + prospect for Josh Willingham idea and whatever else he comes up with today.
G G G E-flat_______ F F F D__________....
And I still dont think its a bad idea
especially if you are not going to play both Cruz and Hamilton in the corners at the same time which I have yet to see or hear something definitive about.

Why do you have to give them Cruz & a prospect
for Willingham?
Washington needs to be kicking more back to Texas in that deal.

god you are way overvaluing Cruz
Willingham out OPSed Cruz last year. Has not OPSed lower than 827 any of the last 4 seasons.
I believe I said I would do Cruz for Willingham straight up but I believe Washington will ask for another prospect thrown in. Thats what it takes generally to get a guy who has put up very consistent and good numbers for several seasons in a row. Until Cruz does that his value isn’t as high as you think it is
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.
No not until yall take off your nelson Cruz blinders and see he isn't the be all end all of baseball players
He is a very nice player but there are others who are just as good if not better and better suited for our team. My whole idea is based on if we are stuck with Cruz at DH which I believe is going to happen unless someone starts mentioning using Cruz or Hamilton in LF next year. So far all we have heard is they are moving Hamilton to RF. You would think if you had a staring RF who you were moving to make room for someone else you would mention it. But all we have heard about Cruz is how much the manager doesn’t think his defense is very good and such.

Big steve,
not to defend Josey but I think you overvalue Willingham, imo.

I might
a little. Just trying to think of ways to improve the team.
Not to say Cruz drags us down let me make that clear.
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.
I dont really know much about if it would or could work but
how about a Willingham/Lannan deal involving cruz.
The bloggerformelyknownasBigBaddBubbaJ
If Cruz is relegated to DH (which my whole premise is based on)
Then his defensive value means nothing to us. I would be looking to upgrade our offense from the LF position specifically against LHP
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.
just because he means nothing to us doesn't mean we should take less value for him
and there’s no reason to think that because the club has expressed some disapproval with cruz’s defense that they think that willingham is better at defense
What is his market value though?
He has ONE full season with an OPS over 850. Hes gonna be 30 years old midway through next season. Just because he was the best offensive player on a bad offensive team last year doesn’t mean hes a superstar.
If he is relegated to DH for us then his defense means nothing. And offensively Willingham is just as good. So against RHP when Willingham would be DHing and Murphy playing LF we are about the same as last year. And against LHP when Willingham is playing LF and we go out and get a guy like Troy Glaus to DH against LHP we are better.
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.
Good gravy
your idea is terrible. Cruz is a much more valuable player than Willingham, end of story.

Not to us if we stick him at DH

Even then
Cruz is still cheaper and a year-and -half younger than Willingham. Cruz is easily the more valuable player.

Cruz' bday is

Willingham’s is Feb. 17, 1979.

I'm assuming
you’re saying that Pedro’s going to pay us $100 million for the privilege to pitch here.
You just don't sit in a rocking chair, when you've built a revolution.
Pedro's fast ball
was sitting 85-88 mph in October and he had what, 10 starts this year?
No thank you.
"Dying ain't hard. It's living that's hard."
"Ranger players, especially veterans, weren’t surprised that Daniels couldn’t find a deal"
This was my first thought, too.
It would be one thing if he just had a couple bad result-based stats or some outlier-type peripherals, but he becomes very unattractive when you consider his 5.97 tRA with the drop in fastball velocity. His K/BB ratio was good (4.63) in that small sample (44.2 IP), but I don’t think he’ll be able to maintain it for a year with a fastball that averaged 88.5, especially in the AL.
If Brad Pitt is playing Beane who do you want playing you?

No way
He’s an NL pitcher at best.
"I was going to say, 'You’re gay for Elvis.' But then I realized that I, too, am gay for Elvis." ~Adam J. Morris.
for the same money
You would rather get a pitcher who is basically a right handed starting Eddie Guardado instead of a pitcher who will give you ~150 ace calliber innings? That seems like a fairly terrible idea.
Pedro may be above ‘replacement level’ but not by much.
Not just no
but hell no. Pedro can’t pitch in the AL, he could barely pitch in the NL.

I highly doubt he could last the whole season
You’d have to give him the Shaq treatment Pheonix gave and skip starts throughout

I know hes lost some velocity but I think he is in the Greg Maddux mold in that he just flat out knows how to pitch
With his repetoire he can still get guys out with upper 80s fastball. I think it would be interesting if the price was right (3 million or so?) to bring him in. Maybe put Matt Harrison on Pedros pitching schedule down in AAA and once every 3 starts you rest Pedro and bring up Matty. That would give Pedro 20 starts, probably limit him to 120 innings or so.
Its just a thought. I remember this past summer some were wanting to bring him in for the 2nd half of the season.
