At least in 2009.

Young runs out of gas
when he’s running multiple bases. It’s the darnedest thing. I’m sure he’s in good shape, but I can’t remember seeing someone else (at that level, as opposed to six year olds) run out of gas like he does when he’s trying to score from first or second (particularly first) or leg out a triple.

Yeah
Looks to me like he needs to do more sprints. I imagine he is in great cardio shape but I wonder if he just does distance running.

Rangers are apparently a poor running team
http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/runnin-the-bases-part-1/
Look at the Angels compared to the Rangers. The angels year in and year out win games over their Pythagorean winning percentage…here could be another example of why.
Team Runs
Rockies 14
Marlins 12
Cardinals 10
Angels 8
Athletics 8
Rays 8
Giants 7
Twins 6
Blue Jays 6
Diamdonbacks 3
Tigers 3
Dodgers 2
Astros 1
Mariners 1
Red Sox 0
Indians 0
Brewers 0
Padres 0
Reds -1
Phillies -1
Mets -2
Nationals -3
White Sox -4
Cubs -5
Yankees -6
Rangers -6
Royals -7
Braves -10
Pirates -13
Orioles -15

Lots of variance in the year-to-year numbers
Last year, the Rangers were the best baserunning (basestealing not included) team in baseball according to Bill James Online and have been

Erm, post got cut off
… one of the better baserunning teams of this decade. Might not have been good last year, but when taken in conjunction with the solid results in previous years I don’t think you can just characterize the team as “poor-running.”

Needs more energy?

One giant "Meh"
There is no way in hell that Michael Young is a worse baserunner than Jim Thome, Adrian Gonzalez, and a number of others that score higher on the charts. Looks like an excercise in calculation for the sake of an excercise in calculation.

Not quite just an exercise
but I think that baserunning stats have a loooooooong way to go before I even think about them when evaluating a player. Way behind defense right now, excepting for catchers.
