By all accounts, from sources throughout the baseball industry, all I'm hearing is that the club has no money to do anything. I've been told the Rangers have let plenty of free agents know they would have some interest, but without any idea on the future of ownership, that's as far as the conversation goes.
Last week, owner Tom Hicks again stated that it is "business as usual" in the Rangers' front offices. If that's the case, it certainly seems that "business as usual" means not being able to do any business. As far as constructing the roster using any parts from the outside, the Rangers seem essentially paralyzed.

Perhaps you’ve noticed the lack of rumors on this site regarding who the Rangers will be signing this winter. There’s a reason for that:
He’s not Joel Sherman?
Anyways, hopefully this ownership situation will be resolved quickly. If true, this is getting ridiculous.

Cameron
I heard Cameron on MLB Home Plate the other day and he said his preference would be to stay in the NL. So there is no surprise that he is being linked to the teams mentioned in the article.

The waiting game sucks
Let’s play Hungry Hungry Hippos

Jeff Wilson says the Rangers are playing the waiting game. I am reminded of what Homer Simpson said about that in the Mr. Plow episode: “Now, we play the waiting game.” Long pause. “The waiting game sucks. Let’s play Hungry Hungry Hippos.”

Jeff Wilson runs though possible Ranger targets in the S-T, but says that the Rangers are playing the waiting game.
Whenever I hear that, I think of the Mr. Plow episode of the Simpsons, where the family watches the first Mr. Plow TV commercial air, and then Homer says, “Now, we play the waiting game…” And after a lengthy pause, he says, “The waiting game sucks. Let’s play Hungry Hungry Hippos.”
I agree. Hungry Hungry Hippos is better than the waiting game.

I hinted at this in the Rupe fanshot
I don’t think they even have money to ink minor league free agents.
Pathetic. Tom Hicks is such a pap smear of a man.

Tom Hicks can detect cervical cancer?
You have to at least give him credit for that skill.

How did they even hire a hitting coach?
by tyd3311 on Nov 26, 2009 2:25 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
I had a friend sell plasma for money in college
We probably all did. But the difference is he was a military brat and had all these vaccinations that gave him really high titer, so he got more money than most people. They bled him until one of the veins in his arm exploded. Literally.
He probably could have hired a minor league hitting coach with that money. Hicks’ blood probably isn’t worth shit. Plus it’s probably spoken for by some international bank somewhere.

What a shitty Valentine's Day weekend that was...
That trade was probably the first time my ex girlfriend realized I cared more about the Rangers than I did about her.
It’s okay, though, before you label me a bad guy, she cared more about the dude she was cheating on me with than she did about me. So, it evened out in the end.

I remember that weekend
was so depressed the wife had to cheer me up. Only thing that made me smile was seeing an interview with Galloway on ESPN where he trashed Hicks, pretty much said what most of us were thinking.

I remember that day so vividly.
It was also the first day I ever saw gas go over 5 dollars at one place. Not kidding. Litterally every station in Bellingham, WA, was constantly raising their prices over the course of the day, and I watched one go up over five.
My friend’s g/f ditched him, and I didn’t even have one to ditch me, so we sat around his dorm and watched ESPN. He was a Yankees fan, btw. That day sucked.

don't think so
We tried to complete the Manny/Lester deal. Both sides agreed to it, MLBPA didn’t. So it’s different.

Sigh...
not really a surprise at all.
However, after hearing that the payroll next year would be similar to what it was this year, I had hoped the Rangers would have 6 or 7 mil to play with if they let Byrd walk.
Please resolve this ownership mess asap. Please.

Speaking of Byrd, look on the bright side
This way we can’t waste that money on him, at least.

Yeah...
I’m certainly in the camp of people that doesn’t want to see Byrd back in Arlington for the kind of money he’s going to get.
It just sucks that this team isn’t going to be able to even bring in a marginal FA bat or make a deal for a guy with an affordable salary because there’s basically no money for anyone.

Yep
And I’m fairly convinced this team is going nowhere fast in 2010 unless they add a decent bat who can provide some stability in the middle of the order and get on base at a good clip. It’s pretty disappointing to already be thinking “wait till 2011” to myself.
But hey, Feliz could use a year to break into the roto and Perez will be looming by then, so not getting the bat we need to make me feel like we can truly contend in 2010 isn’t the end of the world.

Ownership
This is going to take forever to resolve and I have to wonder if the team is going to be looking to dump salary before long. There really isn’t much to dump, but there are a few guys they could give away that would definitely keep them from making any kind of run next year.
Really, I guess, without adding some kind of offensive help, it would take one of those rare years in which everything goes right for a team for the Rangers to beat the dreaded and much hated Angels. It’s looking more and more certain that 2010 is going to be just another write-off year. The sad thing is they really didn’t need a whole lot to get better.
Well over six million people in the metro area, not to mention the media market, and this is what it comes to. Fucking ridiculous.
