Jon Daniels denies Scutaro rumor
Evan Grant has a blog post up, addressing the Marco Scutaro as Ranger third baseman of the future rumor from earlier today...
It includes this quote from Jon Daniels:
"We haven't inquired about anyone for 3B and have no plans to," Daniels wrote in an email. "End of story."
Grant says there's interest in Scutaro as a utility infielder on the part of the Rangers, but Scutaro will end up as a starter somewhere.

And as quickly as it started...
Scutaro Gate comes to an end.
This off season is a beating.

last offseason sucked
this offseason is even worse.
A baseball game is simply a nervous breakdown divided into nine innings.
Begs the question
I guess this begs the question, who else is drawing interest to be the Rangers’ utility infielder?

Think Boston cock-blocked us on Tuglett?
Look at the comments under Jeff Wilson's blog post on dallasnews.com. What a bunch of rocket scientists.- Keith Law
German's Contract
If I understand this, German is an arbitration eligible FA with a little over 4 years experience, but he does not show up on the FA list at MLBTR. Though he signed a minor league deal with the Rangers, KC gave him $1.2 million dollars. Anybody here think his ’10 contract will be > $1 million, and if so is he worth it? His UZR/150 has not been good, though he has not been given much playing time either.

I doubt they offer him arb.
More likely they try to bring him back on a minor league deal with a ST invite.

Might not be much better than Esteban German

Is it too much to ask
For Justin Smoak to come in and DH and/or play some plus defense at first base? From what I’ve seen and heard I assumed he’d be ready to make some sserious contributions very early in the season?
Also…I just found this board reading some articles on just how good of a rookie season Elvis had, and damn I’m glad I did. I didn’t realize there was a community that discussed the Rangers this seriously and in depth. Its good to see because there are next to NO Ranger fans here where I live in NM.

Right on...
Thanks for the link. Decidedly better stuff in there than I would’ve guessed. And I agree on not wanting to have to rely regularly on the rookie, even if he is as highly touted as Smoak. I’m getting ahead of myself I know, but I’m really interested to see this guy get some ab’s for the big club.

Smoak
Smoak might be able to contribute from the get-go.
But if you are a contending team, I don’t think you can simply count on him stepping in immediately and providing you with production from Opening Day, particularly when you’ve also got Chris Davis as a question mark at 1B.
