So when Selig steps down - who steps up?
Bud Selig will no longer be the commish after 2011. Anyone have a legit candidate to take his place?
Please don't say "Bob Costas" - he's said 1000000000 times he doesn't want to be commish.
Nolan Ryan would make a good commish, doncha think? Hopefully, he's still helping the Rangers win championships then and will be too busy for that BS.
George Will would probably be a good commish too. And he's probably my pick.
And just for fun, who would make the WORST pick for commish (and try to make it baseball related - don't say Oprah or Amademajad (sp?) or something crazy.
Bad commish: Larry Bowa or Chris Spier or Mark McGwire, Sammy Sosa etc haha.

George W. Bush
I think he’d be a good commissioner. I would just like to see someone who’s been part of neither ownership nor labor. Anyway there’s were rumblings about Bush being commissioner before he decided to run for President.
Bush was an owner
owner=ownership

Yep
From what I hear he in particular really loves the game. Anyway it would give the poor guy something to do after fucking up the entire country. Maybe some redemption.

I certainly wouldn't mind a commish with a Rangers bias
and I think Bush would be a great commish. I’m pretty sure his dream was always to be baseball commissioner – I bet his people are pulling some strings to get his name thrown in the hat.

Perhaps I am new *BUT*
‘Frankenstein’ (1933) was however, directed by James Wales and Frankenstein’s monster of course has a lobotomy performed on him because the 2nd scene in the film shows Igor and Doctor Frankenstein robbing graves & stealing brains (shall I go on?) and Igor drops the good brain and replaces it with a bad brain and…
If I don’t get all of your cute little in-jokes and I don’t post something exactly where some dude wants me to post it, I guess you can crucify me if that’s what you people do here to new people who are actually trying to contribute something.

What boomer said
“Wales” has a well-known meaning on here that has nothing to do with Frankenstein (though he probably qualifies as an internet monster of sorts). When you saw Wales and mentioned something else, I figured you had to be new. Welcome aboard, but prepare to be tortured and agonized by the stubbornness and inorexable logic of one Josey Wales.
As for your original post, give me George Will.

Somebody
who is as big a stooge for the owners as Selig is. No one else need apply.

Do you really think
the owners are going to pick someone who isn’t a stooge for the owners? Please.
The guys who put Selig in office are thrilled with the job he did, and would happily take a younger clone.

That's true
It’s all about the money – hence that’s why Selig was so loved by the owners, the man made the money for ’em.
But aside from the business side of baseball (the real world), I was thinking in my original post of ball the way it SHOULD be in a UTOPIA.
And have some fun with some guys that couldn’t possibly be commissioner (Chris Spier – ha I kill myself.)

The commish works for, and is hired by, the owners
So I’m sure they’d want someone who has similar designs as Selig.
However they also need someone with significant baseball cred to try to move past the steroid era. They can’t simply hire an ex owner. President Bush has the credibility, but his hands are too tied to the steroid era for him to even be a consideration.
I think
the owners have moved past the steroid era. After all, steroids helped the game tremendously after the strike, and popularity increased even after all the steroid mess was finally acknowledged by the brain dead fans.
Steroids have had no real ill impact on the game. If folks were so disgusted they stayed away from the parks and stopped watching it on TV, it would have been a real problem for baseball, but there is no evidence they did. Folks like to wring their hands over steroids, but that doesn’t stop them from flooding the gates when their team is playoff bound.
The current economic climate is a bigger problem for the game than steroids ever were.

Billy Beane!
If it isn’t George Will, Bily Beane would be excellent.
BTW when Billy was playing, did anyone have any idea he would have the influence he has now?
Cal or Billy Ripken would also make good commisioners. Well, at least Cal. Billy can be serious but mostly he just likes to be goofy. But the guy is all baseball.

hey a noob
The author of this fine blog, Adam J. Morris, esq., actually owns that dress and has for some time. So she’d probably have to pry it off of Ben’s cold, dead body to wear it again.
