The Will Carroll/Josey Wales Memorial dumb trade proposal of the night

From the comments on Richard Justice's blog post on the Astros tonight:

Convince [Carlos] Lee to waive his no trade and package him with [Kaz] Matsui to the Redsox for Josh Beckett. Lee can play LF for a few years or DH. Big Papi is on the decline and I think the Sox realize that. Matsui is a second baseman but he can play short and they need a a SS at the moment.

I don't know...

I think the BoSox would have to throw in another quality arm to make that work.

What makes it even funnier is Justice's very first bullet point:
• Carlos Lee, Lance Berkman and Roy Oswalt won’t be traded. They’re on the books for $48 million.

I failed my LSB ethics test.

This is much worse than Josey's proposal

I had a paper route when I was a kid. I was supposed to go to 2,000 houses. Or two dumpsters.

Josey's proposal that got him in trouble wasn't that crazy

He simply said that he’d rather have Cruz, who is cheap and under team control for a long time, than Carl Crawford, who is expensive and only temporary. He said the difference would be a nice arm. “Nice arm” can be interpreted many ways, obviously Carroll thought he was talking about somethign really nice. But nice could be a Moscoso type prospect.

Why does everybody miss the point with that comment?

It’s really simple, and a bevy of people come in and correct this ass-backwards interpretation, but the point never, ever sticks.

Wasn't it Adam

who thought the Royals would trade Butler for Salty & Matt Harrison?

Guess the dumbfuck Aggie Will Carroll somehow missed that little nugget.

Anybody see what happened to Utah this past weekend?

LOL!

Too bad they can’t play San Jose St. every weekend!

Are the fans that propose these trades. . .

. . . the same fans that get angry when their teams trade for prospects because they haven’t heard of them since they’re not in the majors?

Being a baseball coach...

I was around a lot of people who think/thought the Teixeira to Atlanta trade was awful because we “didn’t get anything in return.”

i had a bet with a friend...

Who’s a very jaded Rangers fan when this trade happened that both Feliz and Andrus would be productive players for the big club by the end of the 2010 season. He’s already balked, arguing that Elvis had a decidedly unproductive rookie year because he “only hit .267”. Those are the types of people whoe don’t like these trades.

by Tyler H on Nov 30, 2009 12:43 AM CST via mobile up reply actions   0 recs

I'll be honest:

That trade was what got me to actually pay attention to prospects. I wanted Teixeira traded for something I knew, and when he wasn’t but everyone praised it as a great trade, I figured the fault was not with the Rangers but with me not knowing these players. I’ve worked on correcting that since.

Found it!

Quote:

we could have gotten martin perez and someone else. this is bull. we may as well just tear our team apart, and i’d be all for it, but we have some idiots in office…ed wade…drayton mcclane. sell the team, you morons because you certainly don’t know how to run one the correct way. we need a total rebuild. PERIOD. our team is old and in 2 years, we will have nothing, either get some top tier prospects now, or let them go to free agency or some bull crap we always pull instead of doing something sensible for once.

About halfway down on here
This guy is effing awesome, this is come content from his more recent posts:

the astros need a frontline starter and if they trade berkman or oswalt to the rangers, we could get good prospects back that we could give up for King Felix. Maybe Yorman Bazardo, Lance Berkman, Chris Johnson, Felipe Paulino/Bud Norris and Sammy Gervacio for King Felix straight up. then turn around and trade oswalt, koby clemens, and Ross Seaton for Neftali Felix, Elvis Andrus, Justin Smoak, and Martin Perez. The Astros will be back on track with just these two trades.

In all seriousness

There aren’t many Houston prospects to trade for in the first place.

Going by my estimation of correct level age combinations: (AAA-24, AA 23, A+ 22, A and below, 21)

First, no one under the age of 24 appeared in any game for Houston last year at the major league level. this contrasts the rangers, who got 1140 plate appearances and 244.2 innings from pitchers under the age of 24. (Chris Davis, Elvis Andrus, Julio Borbon, Greg Golson, Derrek Holland, Neftali Feliz, Tommy Hunter, and Matt Harrison).

Position players: Round rock, their AAA team, got 20 plate appearences from a player under the age of 23. That player was Jose Vallejo, the guy they got from us.
The only players who I would call “young” for their level (see above) were a pair of teenagers on their Sally league team, Jay Austin and Wilder Parra

Position players: Houston had one player in High-A who was young for his level, 20 year old Patrick Urckfitz, who appeared in 7 games as a reliever. They did have a number of teenagers in their Sally league team, Brad Dydalewicz, Jordan Lyles, and Ross Seaton.

This suggests that help may be on the way, but its WAAAAYYYY out there.
