It would be nice to see a Game 7 played.

for sure
If the Yanks won game 7 you’d get to watch the stadium go nutz.
If Philly won game 7 you’d get to watch the stadium swallow their nutz.
How long ago was that? 2001?

The last World Series of my high school days was 2002.
Though, I may speak too soon to call this easily better than 2003. It wasn’t as good as the two years before, but it may have been better than this. 2004-08 was just hard to watch, though. The Astros were close in every game, but they still lost them all.
In honor of the above picture

Go Phillies
It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone. You count on it, rely on it to buffer the passage of time, to keep the memory of sunshine and high skies alive, and then just when the days are all twilight, when you need it most, it stops.

Let’s go Rangers Tigers Red Sox Yankees!!!
Wait a minute I can’t root against the Phillies they just won ugliest city in the country for the third straight year even before the Ho arrived. Let them have something to be proud of besides cheesesteaks.

What's one more game then?
Especially with the atmosphere that surrounds a Game 7.

I hope that bodes well for the National League team again.

Today I got to hear Colin Cowherd (I don’t know why I was listening) call Jeter “one of the top three shortstops in the history of the game,” non-chalantly in a sentence about how everyone can make mistakes. Even for Cowherd that’s a little insane.
Mary J. Blige is terrible

Even in weekened form, I will always love watching Pedro.
Because it will always make me think of him being must-see TV in ‘09 and ’00. I don’t think I ever understood how someone would make contact against him.

Fangraphs was absolutely correct, I feel, in saying the Phillies shouldn't let any pitcher face the line-up twice.
Unless he’s dominating. I absolutely agree with that, and have in games like this for a long time.
Definitely have to get someone going immediately

Because I was almost completely positive the Braves and Yankees played in back-to-back years and went to game 7s both times. And I’m pretty sure it was in the 60s (I know Aaron and Mathews were both playing). Maybe it was the Braves and someone else.
It's kind of funny that every 7 game Yankees series I can think of seemed to end in the NL park.

I’ve been spending this post season trying to decide if I would rather have Manuel or Wash, and I think I’d rather have Wash. Which just goes to remind everyone, like him or not, we can still win the World Series with him.
Meh
They both over-rely upon guys they like even if they’re clearly struggling. But Manuel at least doesn’t fuck with his offense by over-smallballing.

(Hint…it was his second time being a first round draft choice).

One more 1992 draft question…

for the contract that Hicks offered to him. Hicks was well aware when he became a free agent that it wasn’t going to be cheap to get him. Alex was just an amazing player looking to cash in at the best possible time and Hicks obliged.
You just don't sit in a rocking chair, when you've built a revolution.
I just don't really have a vendetta against A-Rod...
that was more of a Tom Hicks fuck up than anything else. He’s a wacky dude, A-Rod, but he’s also awesome at baseball so him getting a ring is kind of okay.
Teixeria has just ALWAYS struck me as a complete fratboy-level douche.

So A-Rod gets off with the 'you're a fool to refuse that kind of money'-bit?
by oc on Nov 4, 2009 10:31 PM CST up reply actions
I think he came here with good intentions...
of starting a legacy somewhere instead of following in the footsteps of one. However, A-Rod wasn’t the problem with the team when he was here. It was just a bad team and made a laughable contract even more magnified.
The A-Rod to the Yankees trade was awful and I still remember when I found out it was happening as one of those “where were you when…” moments. I didn’t blame A-Rod for it, however.

A-Rod wanted to start a legacy
That’s bullshit. He could have done that in Seattle
by oc on Nov 4, 2009 10:37 PM CST up reply actions
What I am saying is...
along with getting a ridiculous offer, starting a legacy somewhere was how he sold it to himself that he was going to Texas. That’s not necessarily a bad thing.
Seattle was never in it.

I feel weird about A-Rod.
Like, I really don’t like him. I’ve always enjoyed following the awesomeness of his career, and once upon a time he was my favorite player, but that ship has long sailed. I’ve never hated him like most Rnagers fans, but he still just makes me uncomfortable to listen to, and I don’t wish him any good will.
And yet I’m kind of happy he just won the World Series. I guess it’s like when it looked like Bonds would win, and when Pujols won. I like when great players have rings to go with their greatness.
I just like the fact that he shut up all the stupid "unclutch" idiots this postseason
But that’s not being happy for him, really.

there is NO way the Angels winning is better than the Yankees. I hate our division rivals more than the Yankees.
A baseball game is simply a nervous breakdown divided into nine innings.
Here's how
If the Yankees lose, they spend a TON more this offseason on free agents that the Rangers aren’t going to sign anyways because of the ownership situation. This means the Yankees are less apt to sign big names in the 2010 offseason, giving the new Ranger ownership a chance to pick up that big missing piece whatever it might be then.
by Mark from OC on Nov 4, 2009 11:02 PM CST up reply actions
That didn't work
It deleted the under message.
The point was that if the Yankees lost, they would spend a ton more this off season. The Rangers are unlikely to spend a dime with the current ownership turnover. This gives the new Rangers ownership a better chance at picking up a big missing piece, whatever that may be, after the 2010 season.

Do people forget the chain-of-command here?
Division rivals suck, but they’re not any worse than the cashdicks who tear your heart out in the playoffs.
Ask Angels fans. I’m sure they’ll tell you how much they hate the Rangers more than the Red Sox or Yankees

Disagreed.
It’s been long enough since the Yankee’s last series that I’m cool with them winning over the Angels. I find their fans to be mostly a wash (not that I prefer people from NY in general).
I don't care about their fans
I live by mostly Angels fans and they are fine, nothing like what is on the other board on here.
by Mark from OC on Nov 4, 2009 11:02 PM CST up reply actions
Well my experience is mostly just the fans I find on the internet.
The only fans worse than Angels fans are maybe, MAYBE, Red Sox fans in that massive sample.
I don't judge a team by their fans
If I did, I would really hate the Oakland As worse than anyone. Few fans, but the ones that are are bad.
As for the Yankees, they just bought a World Series.
by Mark from OC on Nov 4, 2009 11:08 PM CST up reply actions
Wait, I consider fans the single biggest driving force behind how much I want them to lose.
If a fan annoys me, that makes me want his team to lose (Rangers excluded).
Then you better hope the As never get good again

Matsui didn’t even play in the road games. he was great, but I thought they would give it to Rivera
A baseball game is simply a nervous breakdown divided into nine innings.
and he still managed to get 2 hits and a HR in his pinch hitting on the road.
8 for 13 with 3 homeruns and 8 rbi, essentially won the clinching game himself…
the preceding post was a great success.
i'm not saying he wasn't worthy
but Rivera ended every game the Yankees won. Was there another game that Matsui could have been considered MVP of that game?
A baseball game is simply a nervous breakdown divided into nine innings.
I know he didn't start in the road games
but 8 rbi is 8 rbi. Rivera might have closed all 4 games (theoretically wouldn’t all closers of winning teams be the MVP of each World Series??), but Matsui almost single-handedly won the clinching game of the Series. That’s pretty dirty.
Who's next year's WS MVP?
Obviously it won’t be Elvis, because the voters won’t realize how good his defense is. Kinz? Feliz? I can see Feliz if he stays in the bullpen. It won’t be Nellie, since he’ll be on the bench for 3 or 4 of the games.
If they can find any excuse at all to give it to MY, it'd be him.

Padilla
A couple of pitchers get hurt, as usual, midseason. The Rangers resign Padilla who is then out of baseball for the major league minimum to just hit someone they don’t like in their next game. Due to the pitching shortage, he stays and gets the MVP in the series.
