for sure
If the Yanks won game 7 you’d get to watch the stadium go nutz.
If Philly won game 7 you’d get to watch the stadium swallow their nutz.

I would like to see it end with

It's pretty sad this is easily the best World Series since I was in high school.

The last World Series of my high school days was 2002.
Though, I may speak too soon to call this easily better than 2003. It wasn’t as good as the two years before, but it may have been better than this. 2004-08 was just hard to watch, though. The Astros were close in every game, but they still lost them all.

2003 was good
but I’m biased since I was at game 6

Go Phillies
It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone. You count on it, rely on it to buffer the passage of time, to keep the memory of sunshine and high skies alive, and then just when the days are all twilight, when you need it most, it stops.

Today I got to hear Colin Cowherd (I don’t know why I was listening) call Jeter “one of the top three shortstops in the history of the game,” non-chalantly in a sentence about how everyone can make mistakes. Even for Cowherd that’s a little insane.

Fangraphs was absolutely correct, I feel, in saying the Phillies shouldn't let any pitcher face the line-up twice.
Unless he’s dominating. I absolutely agree with that, and have in games like this for a long time.

of starting a legacy somewhere instead of following in the footsteps of one. However, A-Rod wasn’t the problem with the team when he was here. It was just a bad team and made a laughable contract even more magnified.
The A-Rod to the Yankees trade was awful and I still remember when I found out it was happening as one of those “where were you when…” moments. I didn’t blame A-Rod for it, however.

I feel weird about A-Rod.
Like, I really don’t like him. I’ve always enjoyed following the awesomeness of his career, and once upon a time he was my favorite player, but that ship has long sailed. I’ve never hated him like most Rnagers fans, but he still just makes me uncomfortable to listen to, and I don’t wish him any good will.
And yet I’m kind of happy he just won the World Series. I guess it’s like when it looked like Bonds would win, and when Pujols won. I like when great players have rings to go with their greatness.

I just like the fact that he shut up all the stupid "unclutch" idiots this postseason
But that’s not being happy for him, really.

there is NO way the Angels winning is better than the Yankees. I hate our division rivals more than the Yankees.
A baseball game is simply a nervous breakdown divided into nine innings.
by NothinG on Nov 4, 2009 10:59 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Here's how
If the Yankees lose, they spend a TON more this offseason on free agents that the Rangers aren’t going to sign anyways because of the ownership situation. This means the Yankees are less apt to sign big names in the 2010 offseason, giving the new Ranger ownership a chance to pick up that big missing piece whatever it might be then.
by Mark from OC on Nov 4, 2009 11:02 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
That didn't work
It deleted the under message.
The point was that if the Yankees lost, they would spend a ton more this off season. The Rangers are unlikely to spend a dime with the current ownership turnover. This gives the new Rangers ownership a better chance at picking up a big missing piece, whatever that may be, after the 2010 season.

Do people forget the chain-of-command here?
Division rivals suck, but they’re not any worse than the cashdicks who tear your heart out in the playoffs.
Ask Angels fans. I’m sure they’ll tell you how much they hate the Rangers more than the Red Sox or Yankees

It’s been long enough since the Yankee’s last series that I’m cool with them winning over the Angels. I find their fans to be mostly a wash (not that I prefer people from NY in general).

Well my experience is mostly just the fans I find on the internet.
The only fans worse than Angels fans are maybe, MAYBE, Red Sox fans in that massive sample.

I don't judge a team by their fans
If I did, I would really hate the Oakland As worse than anyone. Few fans, but the ones that are are bad.
As for the Yankees, they just bought a World Series.

Wait, I consider fans the single biggest driving force behind how much I want them to lose.

and he still managed to get 2 hits and a HR in his pinch hitting on the road.
8 for 13 with 3 homeruns and 8 rbi, essentially won the clinching game himself…

i'm not saying he wasn't worthy
but Rivera ended every game the Yankees won. Was there another game that Matsui could have been considered MVP of that game?

I know he didn't start in the road games
but 8 rbi is 8 rbi. Rivera might have closed all 4 games (theoretically wouldn’t all closers of winning teams be the MVP of each World Series??), but Matsui almost single-handedly won the clinching game of the Series. That’s pretty dirty.

Who's next year's WS MVP?
Obviously it won’t be Elvis, because the voters won’t realize how good his defense is. Kinz? Feliz? I can see Feliz if he stays in the bullpen. It won’t be Nellie, since he’ll be on the bench for 3 or 4 of the games.

Padilla
A couple of pitchers get hurt, as usual, midseason. The Rangers resign Padilla who is then out of baseball for the major league minimum to just hit someone they don’t like in their next game. Due to the pitching shortage, he stays and gets the MVP in the series.

I found a winning model that’s totally different from what the Rangers are currently doing but should pay off much quicker! First, I’m gonna need someone to lend me $250 million dollars….

Wait a sec. . .
So the most popular team in the NBA, and the team that has gone to more Finals than anyone else, and would spend the most money if they could, won the NBA Title.
The most popular team in MLB, that does spend the most money because they can, and has been to more World Series than anyone else just won the World Series.
