Question for you gamblers out there

I see and hear all of these services and people like Hitzges offering advice and wonder where do these folks do their gambling. Bookies? Online? Vegas?

I thought online gambling essentially died

with that law the US passed that made it difficult for credit card companies to process gambling transactions. I know I used to have alot of friends who played poker online and they stopped because of that.

I'd rank him slightly above Romo

But I think Rodgers’ numbers are inflated, as he has a tendency to hold on to the ball too long looking for the optimal situation. The GB o-line situation isn’t a good one, but he compounds the problem by taking forever to get his throws out.

I like steak.

while his team is motioning for him to hit the deck and the Packers are trying desperately to strip him and have their best chance to win the game by returning a fumble, you have to get down.

by bigsteve on Nov 8, 2009 3:29 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

No a big mistake would be trying to lateral the ball to score

Running it back, when he wasn’t hardly touched, is not a big mistake. Its something im sure the coach will talk about in film sessions and in practice but its not something thats gonna cause much of a fuss. For a team going for its 1st win I don’t see anything wrong with what they did

by bigsteve on Nov 8, 2009 3:33 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

It's something...

a winning, disciplined team doesn’t do. Why take the risk? You drop down and you win the game. Why put all of the effort and hard work of your teammates at risk just to get the touchdown when it isn’t exactly a given and presents an opportunity for your team to lose that just falling down doesn’t?

A team that doesn’t know how to win does something like that and it will come back to bite them if they continue to play undisciplined like that.

by ghostofErikThompson on Nov 8, 2009 3:37 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Yes exactly

Is TB a winning, disciplined team? No they were winless before then. Exactly why I said if Dallas did something like that it would be something to complain about. But TB, a team with a rookie QB starting his first game, a rookie HC looking for his first win is not the kind of team I expect to just drop down there.

Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.

by bigsteve on Nov 8, 2009 3:41 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

You are bitching about a winless team doing something a undisciplined team that doesn’t know how to win does.

No...

I’m pointing out that it was a dumb play that could have cost a team a win and even the teammates of the player who made the play agree that it was a dumb play considering they were frantically signaling him to drop to a knee to preserve the win they struggled for.

For some reason you’re playing the part of the contrarian about a play that ANYONE would agree was dumb but you’ve said you don’t really see a problem with it for some unexplained reason but that seems to be par for your course.

So

The c.w. has been that Jerry Jones would bring Mike Holmgren in after this season.

But Randy Lerner is apparently reaching out to Holmgren. And if Holmgren were to go to Cleveland, he’d inherit a team that is a mess, but he’d also be given complete control.

If Holmgren were to come to Dallas, he’d inherit a team that has a lot of talent, but he’s not going to have control…he’s going to have to take a back seat to Jerry and Stephen in that regard.

by Adam J. Morris on Nov 8, 2009 3:57 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

But

In Cleveland, he wouldn’t be coaching.

by brettgardner on Nov 8, 2009 3:58 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I'm confused.

The story is that he’s being sought for a front office role like Parcells.

by brettgardner on Nov 8, 2009 4:02 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Right

But at the end of the day, Parcells could coach in Miami if he wanted to — he just doesn’t want to at this point.

Similarly, if Holmgren gets hired in that sort of role, and he wants to coach as well, he’s going to have the power to hire and fire the head coach.

by Adam J. Morris on Nov 8, 2009 4:03 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

He would have the power to hire and fire, sure.

But why bring him in through the back door? It’s not like Mangini is anybody’s best friend in Cleveland.

Personally, I hope he falls in love with Cleveland, cause I sure don’t want him in Dallas.

One playoff win

I think is the cutoff for Wade to stay for sure.

I think there might even be a chance for him to stay if the team finishes out a good regular season, say 10-6 or 11-5, and loses in the first playoff game again.

I was looking more at Wade, I think fact is he’s a good coach, about all you can bitch at is a lack of playoff success, but he’s got a proven track record of winning. He’s now 27-12 regular season in Dallas.

Look at Parcells 4 years, 10-6, 6-10, 9-7, 9-7, 0-2 in the playoffs, versus Wade’s 2.5, 13-3, 9-7, 5-2, 0-1 in the playoffs, Wade’s clearly had the better run so far. Lets say, just in games over .500 (counting playoffs), Parcells was a combined 2. Wade so far is14.

by Sharky on Nov 8, 2009 5:02 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Should be

Plus 2 and Plus 14 for Parcells and Phillips respectively. I guess LSB doesn’t like plus signs. HTML thing?

But the key to the Cowboys being good lies in having Wade at DC and Garrett at OC. You lose either of those factors, well you have to replace them or you’re not going to be good anymore. If Wade stays and Garrett goes, if you dont replace Garrett well the team’s winning dynamics will be gone.

Garrett is having an underrated great season. 2nd in the NFL, not the conference, in yards per game. 2/32 is statistically immensely impressive. I’d imagine he’ll be back on head coaches talk around the league unfortunately.

BTW, I read something I thought was awesome about Wade a couple weeks ago, some writer, I think it was Matt Mosely, after the Atlanta win after the bye week, said something like “well I said it before the game, giving Wade Phillips an extra week to prepare almost isn’t fair” (I’m assuming Phillips has a good post-bye record). Heh, love that. Going against the grain. You never hear Phillips talked about as a good coach, yet all he does is win.

well you just said he’ll be coming to a team with a lot of talent…why would Holmgren, who got fired from acquiring talent, want to do something that the status quo does a better job at than him?

Packers suck

Yay! Love it when my hated teams, Packers, Texans, or Patriots, lose..

Aron Rodgers is awful. LOL.

Looks like Texans get to keep their politically correct image by pushing Indy to the wire. I looked at their schedule they have some easy games left. Hope they dont make the playoffs.

by Sharky on Nov 8, 2009 5:12 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

I dunno

Just started hating them somewhere along the line. Mostly because of AJM and Cahill’s moronity from a couple years ago about how the Texans were run like a real NFL team should be run with a real GM and all that stupidity I guess. Of course, they have the same or less success than the Cowboys year in and out.

Also, I hate most Houston teams, also hate the Rockets and Astros. Also stems from real life where I’ve known a few obnoxiously die hard Astros fans that I’ve battled over the years, back when I was a Ranger fan lol.

Well

He’s awfully overrated.

He’s done jack since he’s been in the league as far as big games or playoffs, yet the media cant praise him enough due to anti-Favre backlash. In short, he’s politically correct.

I just hate it when some QB’s are judged by a different standard. I like how when some QB’s lose, like Favre, it’s because they throw INT’s and it’s their fault, but when other QB’s lose, well they’re great and it’s just the team around them that isn’t talented enough or whatever. There is a strong double standard in the league and Rodgers is a big offender. Jay Cutler used to get that in Denver too. Cutler never really did squat, but he was praised a lot.

Boy, this game scares the crap out of me.

Homefield is big here, it’s going to be very tough to win, sucks. In Dallas odds would be good. In Philly it’s uphill.

I’m still always playing the break down the schedule game with us. I look at it as 5 wins, and imo 3 more easy wins (2X Wash, Oak) left. That’s 8. Then you have 6 difficult games, (2X Philly, NYG, SD, @NO, @GB). You need to win 2 of those to get to 10, as well as make sure not to slip up in the easy games. Seems very doable. The Packers game is looking easier now too.

A shorter term way to break it down is, if you go 1-1 against GB/Phill, then beat Wash/Oak, you’re 8-3, sitting well. If you lose to BOTH GB/Philly though, you need to beat two patsies to even get to a lackluster 7-4, which would be disappointing, and not much better than we were sitting last season.

by Sharky on Nov 8, 2009 5:17 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

But

The real reason Rodgers isn’t that good is because McCarthy is pretty average up there in GB. I hope it stays that way and they dont get a good OC.

by Sharky on Nov 8, 2009 5:32 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Nope

If Rodgers is getting sacked al the time,. it is schemes, for sure.

Trust me one 320 pound guy who bench presses 500 pounds is really not that different than the next, I promise. Just have to scheme them right.

Hate that SNF intro with Faith Hill

That’s an example of what happens when women get involved with football.

Just like all the stupid crap that surrounds the super bowl, “themes” and shit like that. Only women do themes.

Some female exec thought it would be a good idea to have Faith Hill sing some gay intro. Guys, we would just have game stuff. Women, they dont care about the game they have to introduce a bunch of stupid crap to it.

We’ll likely see a split backs setup in the backfield, giving Dallas the option of keeping extra blockers to protect against the blitz or send them out for screen passes and use the Eagles’ aggressiveness against them.

I'm not even sure I want to call it Wild Cat, I dunno.

It’s just getting the ball to the guy who’s going to run it when there’s no need to pretend he won’t (though the fake hand-off is a nice option). Something I use to do on QB club back in the day.

by philkid3 on Nov 8, 2009 7:50 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

and of course

the advantage is the extra blocker since you do away with the qb

by Sharky on Nov 8, 2009 7:51 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Absolutely.

I like what I’ve seen the Falcons do with having split runningbacks, so the D doesn’t know who’s going and who’s blocking. They know it’s going to be a run, but they’d know that, anyway. It’s a tremendous option for short gains. And I’ve spent this many letters on the subject because I’ve always been dumbfounded that it’s not more common.

I said it in such a way that only they heard it. They then proceeded to spend the next several minutes booing loud enough that every guest could hear them and they successfully drowned out the “ghost host” audio.

Sorry.

If you’ve ever or never been to the Haunted Mansion, there’s a little part where about 90 or so guests come in to a little foyer, then they go in to the room where the walls stretch, then they go and get on the ride. A cast member (at this moment, me) takes them through those rooms, that’s the “stretch” person. Guess I didn’t think about the fact that you wouldn’t automatically know what I’m talking about. Heh.

Anyway, there’s a lot of dialogue from the “host” of the ride in those rooms, and just for my soft “Go Cowboys” comment, they booed loud enough through the whole thing to drown him out. Several guests were visibly angry at them. And I was most stunned by how not-surprised I was.

the preceding post was a great success.

Someone at FO had a good point this week.

WTF is with separate bathtubs being the universal symbol of impending lovemaking?

by Longhorn on Nov 8, 2009 8:52 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Dammit

I had a bad feeling when Crayton got tackled that it just cost us a TD.

Come on Dallas, convert, we need 7 not 3.

Ogletree

Too bad Jerry’s ruining this team with his terrible drafting and all

YAAAAAAAAA

Whew, we come away with 7 here, we are in control of this game.

I could tell good things were going to happen that last play by the pre-snap look on Tony’s face. Cool and not scared, surveying things.

That they’ve got money on the home team tonight

God.

That was disgusting. A shitty call and a couple frustrating plays.

by brettgardner on Nov 8, 2009 8:57 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

That was such a huge swing in the game not getting 7 there.

So close too.

unless they’d risk the rush.

On the plus side

If I was a philly fan I’d be scared as hell at what Romo and crew are doing to me, even if we didn’t convert that time, Romo was just talking potshots at the end zone.

10-6

All in all not a half bad halftime result, and a damn site from last year. Sucks Philly gets the ball first in the 2nd half.

eagles offense

the are starting to click with the running plays. i’d be scared of a really long drive to start the third quarter

"I just want to comment on how it’s become like a common thing in the [MLB] for guys to fall in love with [the Rangers’s] sloppy seconds." (thanks cstorm)

They

Didn’t seem to be clicking that much to me. That last drive fizzled for them

by Sharky on Nov 8, 2009 9:03 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

they drove it 60+ yards

that’s not bad

Yeah

Fizzled at the end though due to stupid playcalling when they kept calling lackluster runs up the gut, it was kind of a deflating fizzle too.

by Sharky on Nov 8, 2009 9:07 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Boy the Cowboys kept pushing it to RW in the end zone too

I dont know whether I think that’s good or bad.

But wow, stepping back, we’re in good position to win a game AT Philadelphia. If we close this deal, talk about ginormous.

Ten more yards I wanted to see if the Kicker could've chased him down

I think Luke French has a lot of potential. TORP potential.-Dstar
