Tuesday a.m. Rangers stuff
Another day without much Rangers news...
Today is the deadline for the Rangers to offer arbitration to their free agents, with Marlon Byrd being a definite, and Pudge Rodriguez a maybe. Everyone else will not be offered arbitration.
Evan Grant has an item up with some info from John Blake regarding playoff ticket refunds, with the final refunds supposedly being done yesterday.

Interesting
It’s leaked into the media that the Red Sox will be looking to move Pedroia to shortstop this offseason so they can acquire a 2B who is starting-caliber, and Pedroia has a positive response and says he can’t wait for Francona to call him and ask him.
It’s amazing how differently some players can handle position changes for the good of the team.
Greatest Inventions Ever? 1. TiVO, 2. Boobs, 3. Baseball
Its sad
when Pedroia is less douchey than Young
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

why?
Is Pedroia commonly seen as a douche, or are you saying this because he has a “B” on his cap? I have always viewed Pedroia as one of the better teammates in baseball, and I really enjoy the way he plays the game.
What is this, Horseville? Because I'm surrounded by naysayers.
Uh... yes.
I really enjoy the way he plays the game
You must really love David Murphy then…

what do I not get?
and don’t get me wrong, I am laughing about this and not taking it seriously, but what is wrong with the way these guys play the game?
And what makes Pedroia and Murphy douches?
What is this, Horseville? Because I'm surrounded by naysayers.
Look up the Boston Magazine feature on Pedroia as an example.
My favorite part: “You don’t want to stay in Woodland. What do you want to stay in Woodland for? The place sucks. The newspaper there, I don’t really get along with. I come from your town. You should embrace me. I play for the Boston Red Sox. You haven’t had a lot of major-leaguers come out of your city.”

in fairness
SS has become the star position in the infield. I think most players feel that moving from SS to 3B is a fielding demotion
I have a feeling Pedroia wouldn't have a much different reaction if they wanted him to move to 3rd.
Nothing to base that on, it just seems like it might affect a vet with a greater sense of pride and entitlement.

Going from 2B to SS...
….does seem to be much more positive than SS to 3B, especially for a 20 year old.
Well, SS is more of a high profile position than 2nd base is.......
…so most players would be thrilled to be moved there. It’s like the organization is saying “Hey, we view you as our best infielder and we want you to be in charge of the infield”
Now, if you take a SS and want to move him to 3rd base or to 2nd, that’s when you hear the player grouse about the switch.
exactly
I don’t get the “MY is so unselfish to move from 2nd to SS, BS.” That was an upgrade. Anyone would like to be promoted. He bitched about going from SS to 3rd for the same reason. It took him over a month to comply with moving to 3rd. MY is a great hitter, but he is not more of a team player than most ballplayers who would be in that same situation.
A baseball game is simply a nervous breakdown divided into nine innings.
And they're asking him to move
rather than telling him he is moving. I think that was Face’s big beef.

Here's the problem with asking
if they say no, then you get in real trouble for then telling.
Go Rice Owls!
Yep
If the team is asking someone to move positions, its not because they’re dieing to know the player’s opinion on the matter. If they’re asking, its because they think its best for the team and expect/hope they’ll say yes.

Yeesh.
Yes MY made a royal ass out of himself when the announcement came down. Then he moved and had a damned good season and didn’t have a negative thing to say. After spending months on this at the beginning of 2009, isn’t it about time we moved on?

Neither do I...
I mean, I get the idea.. I just don’t understand why you would build this, and how anyone will be able to focus on just one bubble without it looks like a giant digital mess.

The Bo Jackson thread brought about some discussion of the best college FB defenses of all-time.
I ended up browsing the 2001 UMiami Hurricanes roster just to refresh my memory.
That has to be the greatest collection of talent on a football team.. ever (obviously not at QB though), right?
Just some of the HB’s.. ready?
Clinton Portis, Willis McGahee, Frank Gore, Najeh Davenport
Do yourself a favor and check it out.

No doubt.
’01 Miami was amazing in every way.

Look at some of the mid/late 80s Hurricane teams
The brothers Blade, Irvin, Brown, Maryland, Kosar, Walsh, Testaverde, Bubba McDowell, Danny Stubbs, Randy Shannon, Alonzo Highsmith, Eddie Brown, Brett Perriman, Cortez Kennedy, Jessie Armstead, Darrin Smith, Michael Barrow…
Even Jeff Feagles was a punter for them back then…

Brett Perriman?

Those Miami teams were special, too, though I guess I tend to give more weight to the ’01 version because I saw so many of their games.
