Four free agents offered arbitration (so far)
Scutaro, Barajas, Betancourt, and Marquis all offered arbitration. Scutaro is a Type A, so this likely kills his market value, and I expect he'll accept arbitration rather than try to find a team willing to part with a first rounder to sign him.

Well heres hoping that totally kills the Scutaro rumor.
What do voluntary mean?
Polanco not offered arbitration, he was a type A
I would love to get him here.
A baseball game is simply a nervous breakdown divided into nine innings.
Anything you want
I have heard Polanco is a people pleaser…

Moose stuff?

Scutaro was a 4.5 WAR shortstop last season
To my knowledge he’s really the only starting caliber SS on the market, don’t you think there is a team out there that needs a SS will forfeit the pick and sign him?

Probably not
I really can’t see anyone giving up their draft pick for a middle infielder in his mid 30’s no matter how well he hit or fielded. maybe boston. probably not.
SS has got to be the position player equivalent of TORP
Just very difficult to find a good one, and very few prospects that profile as ML starters at the position. If a contending team (hello Red Sox) is faced with the choice of losing a draft pick for Scutaro or having a spare play SS everyday, I bet they will fork over the pick and sign Scutaro.

They've got Jed Lowrie, though
I expect they anticipate Lowrie should be ready to go by mid-season.

They have asked Pedrioa to play SS
Well not they want to exhaust all resources before making a move.

Injuries
I think the injuries are a concern for the Red Sox, which explains why they have been linked to Everett and Scutaro. Lowrie is so young and with enough potential that it would be foolish to give up on him. However, Plan B has got to be better than Tug Hulett.
This won’t necessitate the Red Sox signing Scutaro, but they should only be putting limited faith in Lowrie remaining healthy.

That was based on an extremely fluke offensive season, though
I don’t know that there are a lot of teams that want to give up a first round pick to pay market price on a 1-2 year deal on a 35 year old shortstop.

his walk rate increased dramatically
I’m not sure I’d buy that as being fluky. Seems like maybe he decided to be more selective at the plate, I don’t know. The guy had a .379 OBP and played plus defense at short, I’d be stunned if he can’t get a FA contract.

What about teams willing to pay a 2nd round pick
Maybe a team like Kansas City or Houston, who don’t have obvious SS’s for next year (I don’t think) and wouldn’t lose a pick until the 40s or 50s.
Go Rice Owls!
If you want him, couldn't anyone just trade for him after arbitration?
For something a team thinks is less than a first rounder?
It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone. You count on it, rely on it to buffer the passage of time, to keep the memory of sunshine and high skies alive, and then just when the days are all twilight, when you need it most, it stops.
wow I thought they'd offer Hawkins arb
He cost a lot less than Valverde but was just as effective if not more so.
Im on board with Tejada,
Heis right handed can DH play 3rd, and SS. He probably signs for just as much as Dye imo, if not a tad bit less.

And doesn't provide enough overall production to be a DH anymore
I failed my LSB ethics test.

Ok im not an expert by any means but...
If Byrd says he wants to play for the Rangers and the Rangers want Byrd to play here. Why is this so hard to figure out. The Rangers are offering him arbitration, so why doesnt he accept it? If he accepts it, both people win. the only one who loses is the person who loses out on money i guess. But if its out of both parties hands isn’t that kind of exactly what you want?
Texas Rangers- You hang 'em, we bang 'em!
byrd stands to lose out on a lot of money if he agrees to arbitration. at his age, this is his one real chance for a big multi-year deal, and it simply wouldnt be financially prudent for him to settle for arbitration, even if it means a nice raise.

I think the Pudge offer is just fine
No huge downside. If he accepts the Rangers can send Tea (probably) to AAA for a while and quite possibly trade Pudge later on when someone really needs a catcher.

I don't see it that way
If Pudge accepts, I think they trade a catcher. Remember, the 40 trumps all.
I didn't know what a mancrush was. Derek Holland showed me.
I thought we still had a spot?
According to Scott Lucas, as of Nov 19 there were 37 players on the 40. Not positive what’s happened since then.

Just checked MLB's website and they also show 37 players

well who would be the one to go?
you’d assume the most valuable, but none of the other 3 are that highly regarded anymore are they? is Salty still tops?
