wang
has a lot of value and if they rangers arent in on him, its a damn shame.
Scout: He was a first-round pick right? Got a huge bonus?
KG: Oh yeah.
Scout: Well, he spent a lot of it on milkshakes.

5th inning against the Tigers
Kelly Johnson annoys me, fantasy speaking
I’ve hoped for about three years now that he’d be a good value pick at 2nd while I spent my early picks on guaranteed studs. Instead, the back of his jersey should say “meh.”

Alfredo Amezaga
He’d be an OK fit as the true utility player. He’s an all leather guy that can play both SS and CF competently.
Ranger fans say "NO! NO!" to Go Go.
Keep Reinsdorf's chub from ruining my club.
I think there is a pretty big benefit for having a util guy that can
play SS and CF competently. If you have a guy like Amezaga on the roster, you also have room for a Inglett or German type that carries a little more stick and can back up 2b and 3b.
Otherwise, I think they are going to have to carry Boggs or Gentry as the 5th OF / Backup CF. In that case the utility guy would have to be able to play a competent SS, which would squeeze both Inglett and German, guys that have some usefulness off the bench, out of a roster spot.
Ranger fans say "NO! NO!" to Go Go.
Keep Reinsdorf's chub from ruining my club.
Eric Bruntlett is probably the other guy who fits the SS/CF profile
But he’s a righty with a career .352 OBP vs lefties.
Non-tenders
I’ve always like Johnson and especially Church, but they would serve no purpose on this team.
Assuming the trade for Lowell falls through...
and the price is right, I’d be interested in Atkins. Historically a lefty masher who I assume could play first, third, and maybe some COF.
Atkins away from home the past three years
.233/.302/.394
I’d pass, with or without Lowell.

OT- the 2 people at the Gift Shop need to be fired.
I was there today, I walk in and ask “Wheres the Rich Harden gear?” they both reply “Whos that?” and I just say “you can’t be serious.” they go “probably not until spring, so now they’re spending money on pitching?” I just walk away. The India looking kid was rde and completely clueless. And the old man just seems bitter.
They need to be let go.

you usually say that to people who are arrogant and who think they are better than you. this guy just seems like he didn’t care about you.
and, as you point out, it is a minimum wage job. I’m not sure what you are expecting here
job is a job
employees should be respectful to customers, it isn’t hard
I don’t like people justifying employees’ behavior with minimum wage (employees’ production is another story)
Totally not the point.
The point was the guy wasn’t responsible for a whole lot, including knowledge of higher up retail procedures and he’s definitely not getting paid to follow all the Rangers’ moves 24/7.
There has been no evidence of rudeness on the part of the employee.

last point, and many people disagree with me on this subject, but
I think racial-sensitivity is an elitist expectation
Being non-racist is not elitist
Being able to comment on races and joke of their differences is something you can learn while living amongst diversity
Learning to spot every racist innuendo and carefully tread through the issues is something you learn in liberal arts university classes
I think this is valuable, but to expect people who didn’t attend the same courses or read the same books to have the same awareness is elitist
by BuckyB on Dec 12, 2009 5:25 PM CST up reply actions 1 recs
god
you sounded somewhat reasonable until this dipshit diatribe. I like that the innuendo was “Indian looking kid.”
sympathy for the KKK for being ignorant, I guess.
what a sickening post.
I know people disagree with me on this
I just think that it’s easy to not be racially sensitive if you weren’t taught to look for it.
Calling someone India-looking when it has no relevance to the story is clearly racist in nature, but who cares?
I said “being non-racist” is not elitist, don’t misinterpret me, I clearly have no sympathy for the KKK
it's easy not to be?
really? how about you just don’t inject race into a conversation if it isn’t necessary?
geez, I get that you might have grown up without manners but the first time you start eating with your mouth open in public or don’t wash your hands after peeing and try to shake someone’s hand, people will stare at you and ridicule you until you learn not to do it.
I’m not gonna give the ignorant racist the benefit of the doubt here. especially since it isn’t something that he could only learn in fancy liberal arts college
BTW, Indians on the board care. I care. I care about all the people who come on this board and read some bullshit like that and think, “what do you expect – it’s Texas.”
alright
First, you should stop trying to make this personal, when I’m trying to hold a respectful debate with you
Secondly, how would you explain the fact that lower socio-economic demographics tend to be less racially sensitive with their verbiage?
My argument is that because you learn to be PC through training (i.e. education or through Public Relations trainings), not by some fundamental characteristic that you have as being racist or not
That doesn't make it "elitist."
Education is not “elitist.”
Your 2009 Texas Rangers: "Can't take a fucking to save their lives" (lisa w, 2009).
And using or not using racist language
is not simply a matter of being “politically correct.”
Your 2009 Texas Rangers: "Can't take a fucking to save their lives" (lisa w, 2009).
Having an expectation for a non-educated person
of a trait that you picked up through the education you were blessed to be able to receive is elitist, imo
having lowered expectations for non educated people
when we are talking about something like human interaction and not calculus is elitist.
I disagree with your opinion,
as well as your assumptions about what it is to be “non-educated.”
In fact, I think you’re being far more “elitist” than anyone here, so far as that goes.
Your 2009 Texas Rangers: "Can't take a fucking to save their lives" (lisa w, 2009).
It is an opinion.
When you share your opinion publicly, and in the process apply labels to certain people, however, that’s something else again, no?
Something else that might garner a reaction. And you can either ignore that reaction, or disagree with it, or learn from it?
Your 2009 Texas Rangers: "Can't take a fucking to save their lives" (lisa w, 2009).
i don't understand the point you are trying to make
all racists have reasons for being racists and it usually has something to do with the way they are brought up.
I’m supposed to be more understanding of a person if they are poor rather than if they are rich and went to liberal arts school and then became a racist? Really? That is your point?
And you’re not supposed to cal out the lower socio economic demographics when they are racist? I should “let it go” because “it’s not hurting anybody.” Is that your point?
Because you’re absolutely wrong. and being really stupid about it.
you keep a) making it personal and b) changing my words around
lower-socioeconomic groups are not excusably more racist, if they are being racist than they are shit heads
they are excusably less racially-sensitive when it comes to their words, I don’t care if they waste the time to dance around their beliefs about the differences between races
Do you think word choice
is generally disconnected from intended meaning?
Your 2009 Texas Rangers: "Can't take a fucking to save their lives" (lisa w, 2009).
nope
but if you change your word choice from one thing (after you realized it could be interpreted wrongly)
to another thing that is more PC, your underlying belief hasn’t changed, you’re just reflecting your ability to tread carefully on these issues
Do you believe realizing
a word (or words) could be interpreted wrongly, and taking action to change your choice of language, is generally disconnected from thinking about the underlying issues that make certain word choices liable to misinterpretation?
Your 2009 Texas Rangers: "Can't take a fucking to save their lives" (lisa w, 2009).
what does personal mean
cause I keep calling you stupid? well deal with that because that’s just how I talk.
and politically correctness isn’t some exercise in perfecting speech. people actually get offended by being racially insensitive. I like how you are trying to separate out the two but no dice. people don’t like it. it needs to stop. if I see it, I will call you out in the same aggressive manner I call everybody out on everything.
and by the way, 2legit
he’s basically calling you an ignorant hick. I’m not really sure but I give it 50% chance that you’ll just accept the out.
"A person who lives in the country,
regarded as being unintelligent or provincial."
Your 2009 Texas Rangers: "Can't take a fucking to save their lives" (lisa w, 2009).
Now, if he'd called you a "cracker"...
Your 2009 Texas Rangers: "Can't take a fucking to save their lives" (lisa w, 2009).
Depends on how you define "racist,"
would be some folks’ argument.
But I write that at the risk of it being dismissed as “something you learn in liberal arts university classes,” and thus “elitist,” or some such.
Your 2009 Texas Rangers: "Can't take a fucking to save their lives" (lisa w, 2009).
i didn't say you learn to not be racist in universities
I said you learn how to be “racially sensative” as in “Politically Correct”
I took a course on racism in film talking about the Veggie Tales series is racist… I think it’s ridiculous that we have that sort of expectation for ourselves
Actually, you didn't quite write that.
You wrote that racial sensitivity is an elitist expectation, and strongly connected both (racial sensitivity and elitism) to things you learn in the classrooms of “liberal arts universities” (whatever those are).
Your 2009 Texas Rangers: "Can't take a fucking to save their lives" (lisa w, 2009).
And I think you're making an awful lot
of these “expectations for ourselves,” which no on here has really raised.
Your 2009 Texas Rangers: "Can't take a fucking to save their lives" (lisa w, 2009).
"expectations"
I’m referring to how society tends to blow up anytime someone messes up in the slightest with regard to race
i.e. The Spanish National Basketball team’s photo where they did “asian eyes” - the U.S. tried to make it a huge deal, while not even the Chinese cared
The Chinese Basketball team
said they didn’t care and that their country did not care about PC like ours did

The Chinese
were still incredibly angry about it nearly a year afterwards.

i don’t see how that would matter. so what if it is the chinese here. you are saying they are just wusses and shouldn’t be so sensitive?

I’m very thankful for the education, and I think the world would be a better place if everyone got one.

Maybe it’s just a cultural misunderstanding
Maybe I’m biased bc I studied in Spain for a year, but you have to understand that different cultures view these issues in different lights. People’s feelings aren’t hurt when you describe them as they are physically.
Not a big deal though, you can reply and I’ll let it drop
are you serious?
this is some spaniard saying it’s not a big deal- not the chinese. I can see why you like the article because it basically sounds like you.
and i guess aussies are allowed to wear blackface, etc.
whatever. you’re entitled to your opinion. just don’t spread it like you are an enlightened conservative battling the elitsts. you’re just a moron.
lol you are ignorant as shit
a) im liberal as they come
b)
As for the photo of the basketball team, the reaction in China has been muted. A spokesman for the Chinese apparel company Li Ning, a sponsor for the Spanish team, told The Associated Press last week that the company does not “think this is an insult to the Chinese.” New York Times columnist Harvey Araton showed the photo to two Chinese staffers in the newspaper’s Beijing office. “Neither viewed it with surprise or disgust, but more with bewilderment,” Araton wrote.
c) I’ve never claimed I’m enlightened, I said I had an opinion that a lot of people disagree with
d) I love how the basis of your counter-argument is to ignore what I’ve said and claim that I support blatant racism
Indeed they did

From Wikipedia re: Bangladesh
The borders of present-day Bangladesh were established with the partition of Bengal and India in 1947, when the region became the eastern wing of the newly formed Pakistan. However, it was separated from the western wing by 1,600 km (994 mi) across India. Political and linguistic discrimination as well as economic neglect led to popular agitations against West Pakistan, which led to the war for independence in 1971 and the establishment of Bangladesh. After independence the new state endured famines, natural disasters and widespread poverty, as well as political turmoil and military coups. The restoration of democracy in 1991 has been followed by relative calm and economic progress.

Will Carroll
I think Wang would be a great fit for Rangers or Pirates. Pirates bc of PR value, Rangers bc of med team and sinkerball.
Med Team?
Medical team

I know what med team means
but I don’t understand why Wang should sign with us because of it. Unless he’s looking for a diagnosis of Thoracic Outlet Syndrome.
well
I’ll defer to Will Carroll on whether we have a good med team or not, but this is the first time I’m hearing about it as a strength.
Although I will echo the sentiment to some degree – what med successes have we had? Is Bradley the only one?
I wonder if this factored into Harden’s decision at all.
I think Keith Meister is well respected around the league.
I know he performed the surgery on Ben Sheets.
I think Luke French has a lot of potential. TORP potential.-Dstar
Carroll is extremely high on our medical team
Also, in discussing the Harden signing, the guys on XM yesterday right before lunch were praising Harden for going to a team with one of the most advanced medical teams in the game.
The TOS deal gets a laugh, but some speculation is that it’s a much more common injury than we think. Basically, TOS causes lots of other problems and its just not diagnosed because not every medical staff catches it.

IIRC
Will has done some consulting work for/with the Rangers’ medical staff as well, so it would seem that he’s in as good of a position to know about its relative strengths and weaknesses as anybody.

And if he is?
Boy your face is going to be red.

Well if he is
I don’t want him because that means he’ll be getting a rib removed and miss the season.
You just can't beat some good Wang
I wonder which team will grab Wang and slide him into their rotation? Think JD could sneak Wang in the backdoor?

That’s the best one yet.

Of those guys
I’d be interested in Church and maybe Johnson as a utility guy if he could play short. Church I think is primed for a rebound year, though his place on this team would probably be limited to 5th OF/DH…
Random...you're a genius if you can name the starting rotation next year
OK, Harden, Hunter, Feldman, and two others from the group of Holland, Feliz, Harrison, Hurley, McCarthy, etc.
I can’t wait to see how this shakes out…
Ephesians 3:20-21...and I can only imagine
McCarthy and Harrison
Holland, Hurley and Feliz break the season in AAA rotation with Holland getting the first call up.
Harrison, Holland
I don’t think they dick Holland around again.
Hunter vs. someone else, not so sure
I don't either.
When he gets a callup it will be for the rotation.
Ah ~ I was just going off sprite's list,
and if you add McCarthy and Harrison, you wind up with a starting five…
Your 2009 Texas Rangers: "Can't take a fucking to save their lives" (lisa w, 2009).
I think there's very little chance...
…Harrison starts the season in the rotation, barring an injury to someone.

I think he'll surprise people in Spring Training
and I think they’ll want Holland a Feliz to get more consistency with their secondary pitches in AAA.
In no particular order
Harden, Feldman, Hunter, McCarthy, Holland
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.

I'd take him
probably won’t cost more than the $3 million they are talking about for Lowell. That you don’t have to give up anything for him is an even better bonus.
Already mentioned?

Could we get him on a minor league deal? I know lots of injury problems, but with a low risk deal he has a great arm.
