smart move by Blue Jays
they jumped on him fast. I would have liked to have him
A baseball game is simply a nervous breakdown divided into nine innings.
Damn
Buck is a solid backstop. I heard we were kicking the tires on Ryan Doumit. Now that guy, if and when he is healthy, is a beast. I would throw the Pirates a deal.

Just use Richardson if that's the best they can do

Yes
I’m not convinced anyone out there is significantly better than Richardson at this point. I’d go ahead and use him as a backup. And if he or Teagarden gets hurt, then you go pull some veteran off the bargain bin (see Rodriguez, Ivan circa 2009).

I don't know if you can get another Pudge
Pudge had some influence on the owner and pushed the trade from his end. I’m sure the Astros could have gotten a better return for him. It also worked for the Rangers since Pudge was in the last year of his contract. Are the Rangers going to be able to make a trade to add payroll mid season? I’m thinking not.
I didn't know what a mancrush was. Derek Holland showed me.

I disagree. McLane didn’t want to send him to Texas, and only did because Pudge wanted to come back, but he didn’t do any intra-state discount…if anything, the cost of the Rangers getting a name player from Houston is going to be higher than for any other team.
And from the Rangers’ perspective, there was p.r. value to be gained from bringing Pudge back that another team wouldn’t have had.

I tend to agree
The only benefit you gain from a veteran is I’m the grit/veteran presence factor. You’re not going to get an offensive upgrade (and in fact, the offensive ceiling is highest with Salty) and two of Salt/Tea/Rich should be fine defensively.
The only thing you add with a veteran pickup is the risk of Warsh playing him too much.
Now if we’re talking about a trade for someone like Doumit, well, sign me up.

Here's a thought: how about Salty and Teagarden wiping the suck out of their vaggies?

That would certainly be helpful

Bummer
We still only have two terrible catchers instead of three.

Your hating catchers schtick is getting stale.

It's not schtick, our catchers are horrible
But so is John Buck. And unlike our catchers, John Buck is also old.
So I wasn’t really excited about potentially adding him to the mix.

We know what you think about our catchers...
last year they were fantastic. This year they’re horrible.
Or perhaps there were injuries and growing pains for young players (especially Salty and MaxRam) last year. Not every guy is going to hit his ceiling. I don’t think you can throw in the towel on Salty or MaxRam yet. Max may not be a catcher in the bigs, but I think he could still hit. Salty could come back from his injury and still be a productive everyday catcher. He’s still very young.
You need to stop it with going from one extreme all the way to the other.

I'm not going from one extreme to the other
I just stopped pretending our catchers didn’t suck.
And I certainly haven’t thrown in the towel on Max yet, if you’ve been paying any attention. I am extremely apprehensive about Salty’s arm, which has turned into a recurring problem, however.
