Rangers To Sit In On Aroldis Chapman Workout Tuesday

ESPN is reporting via Twitter that the Rangers will be in attendance for Aroldis Chapman's workout on Tuesday.

This is surprising news although this is likely the Rangers just doing their due diligence.  I can't imagine a scenario where the Rangers can afford to sign Chapman, especially considering he's reportedly seeking a $20MM contract.  The Yankees, Red Sox, Astros, Orioles, and Angels will also be in attendance per the report.

Time to discuss.

He won't get 50 million

He will get around what Strasburg got

Red Sox have offered

$15.5 mill reportedly…

If we could go around $20 mill we would have a chance, but this kid seems cocky, so Id say he is angling for one of the top 4 teams…

Even if a new owner was in place, I doubt he would say OK to that kind of money…

I said in another thread...

if the Rangers could go 5/20 they could be players here. Of course we know they don’t even have half of that, so 20 mil is obviously out of the question. He’s a pretty talented kid, I’d love to see him in this system. Of course I’d also like a three way with Salma Hayek and Jessica Alba too. I think the later is just as likely at this point.

The BoSox just gave Lackey 85 mil. What the hell is another 15-20 mil to them?

They have four million

if they hold off on getting a bat.

Yeah...

but this kid is probably 2 years away and the FO has made it pretty clear they want another bat for 2010, perhaps a catcher as well. I don’t see the Rangers giving the only $ they have available right now to a pitcher who can’t help them right away.

I don't either

but if they were blown away, it could be the smarter thing to do if they took a step away and looked at it. Of course it doesn’t make a lot of sense that they would be the only team to be blown away, and like you said, they’re not going to ignore their desire for a bat.

meh

5.37 career bb/9 in a free swinging league, lots of rumors that he is uncoachable/tempermental, questionable secondary stuff….

If the price got low enough i guess, but I really don’t expect much immediate success.

the preceding post was a great success.

I bet he does not hit above 96 on back to back pitches tomorrow

He got fat according to last reports and was sitting at 92 not to long ago….

I would be real surprised if you hear overwhelming stuff about his velocity tomorrow.

Yep topped out at 96
In the morning at the Baseball USA complex, the left-hander tossed two separate five-minute side sessions, throwing mostly in the 92-93 mph range and topping out at 96 mph. Chapman, 21, also threw his slider and changeup.

Unless JD's paying out of his own pocket

It ain’t happening
And I don’t think he makes enough to pay the bonus for Profar, much less Aroldis.
