Hicks' Finances

How much info do we have, is the $525M substantially all of the HSG’s debt? If so, I imagine having him as a minority owner wouldn’t be THAT bad since his cashflow situation would improve with the de-leveraging.

* Word is Gilbert’s chances appear to be fading fast, especially since a proposed merger with Hicks fell by the wayside.

To me, this is probably the best news we’ve heard about the ownership situation yet. I can’t say that I know what Greenberg or Crane will do with the F.O., but I know I didn’t like Gilbert.

agreed

with CG, we get a seemingly committed owner who will let Nolan run the club. With Crane, it sounds like he wants to keep Nolan and he has the deepest personal pockets. Either way we could be in good shape.

it sounds like Greenberg

is in the cat bird seat. Apparently it helped to allow Hicks to maintain a shred of dignity.

Can we start calling Greenberg “Gerald Ford”?

What is this, Horseville? Because I'm surrounded by naysayers.

yep
Think Rangers will be announcing start of negotiating period with Houston businessman Jim Crane very soon. Probably today.

Word.

by tyd3311 on Dec 15, 2009 3:28 PM CST up reply actions

hes not

This is his last ditch effort to keep control of the team. He will drag out the negotiations while is continue to put together a group to get it himself. He knows MLB most likely will not accept Crane!!

All the good the roids did us!! I just want April to begin and know that the team that is in place is going to contend, and the organization is going to do, and be able to do, everything it can to help it contend. Is that all to ask for!!!

I think it's because Jose Canseco

wouldn’t hook the pitchers up…think about it – he wanted to pitch himself, right? why would he help out his competition?

first i've heard of

Hicks being a minority partner with Greenberg. Makes me think less of the Greenberg group, unless they can keep Hicks problems from weighing them down.

by jcAustin on Dec 15, 2009 3:21 PM CST reply actions

What

Tom Hicks the man is not the problem… Tom Hicks LLC called Hicks Sports Group, they are in trouble… Thus, Hick’s chipping in say $20 million of his own money to be a minority owner is fine with me, expecially if that money somehow finds it’s way back to the Rangers or glory park.

minority partner means very little

Just means he is giving some of his personal money to the group and will get a portion of the profits but will have no say in day to day or long term plans for the club.

Like being a stockholder of a company.

Yeah, lots of MLB clubs have many minority owners whose names you never even hear

Yup.

Made the decision yesterday that I’m leaving in early January, though. I may come back, but the economy is making working at Disney World suck. (I might try and go to Disneyland, see if my experience would transfer over there, and they’re still making money and still treating their employees well).
