Hicks reportedly selects Greenberg/Ryan group to buy the Rangers

PrintPer Evan Grant andT.R. Sullivan Tom Hicks has supposedly selected the Chuck Greenberg/Nolan Ryan group to purchase the Texas Rangers, meaning that Greenberg's group will now have a period of exclusive negotiating rights with Hicks.
This isn't over, but it looks like Greenberg's group should end up with the team.

If Hicks is involved in the ownership group he may accept the bid pretty quickly. I’ve already read in several places where MLB approval won’t be a problem so they may have financial resources much sooner than a lot of us think.

I'm not sure about the rest, but it would be hard to see Frisco not being a Rangers affiliate

How would that work.
Could it happen, first of all. And if it did, could they just take the best players from each affiliate, make it one team, and use said team to represent the Rangers AA/AAA/whatever level the team is? If that makes any sense at all. In other words, could they use the teams they already own to make our farm system even better or is something like that not even an option.

No. MLB teams have full control over all the baseball ops of their minor league affiliates. Full and total control.

As much as I love TCU, I will always have a bad taste in my mouth with that kid… I loved TCU, it was a great school, but if someone offered me 4 million dollars to play baseball in my home state or go play college baseball and get a degree…I would have a lot more $$$ in front of my name then a lousy B.B.A!
