I don't think it is hatred
I think it is concern over the incredibly low K rate.

Beavan
And also the alarming loss in velocity.
I saw him at least 4 times in frisco and he was sitting in the upper 80s, maybe touched 90-91 a few times but not often.
On the plus side he has a low walk rate.

...and a good groundball rate + a good HR/rate.
Not to mention that holding your own in AA as a 20 year old is nothing to sneeze at.
I certainly wouldn’t sneeze at it.

If his velocity can increase he will certainly look better
but he just did not look impressive in many outings I saw, though he did attack the zone.

It would certainly help
When I said upper 80s more often than not it was 87-88 touching 89.
I’m certainly not an expert or a scout by any means, just going by what I could read on the scouts guns in front of me.

That's right around where most sinkerballers sit, actually.
When Derek Lowe was in his prime he’d sit at 87-89 and even though he’d only K around 5or6 per 9 innings, he’d survive by inducing tons of grounders, keeping the ball in the yard and keeping walks to a bare minimum…
I don’t think Beavan is the GB machine Lowe was, but he’s certainly hard to hit the ball in the air against right now, and the control is freaking special.

dont get me wrong
I think he could be a LAIE back of rotation type, I just am not all that high on him right now.
He’s a totally different pitcher now than he was when drafted, it just changes the perception.
Another thing, when he started getting knocked around in games he seemed to sort of give up on the mound. Something that I would hope will go away with age and more time in AA.

Yeah
and the 2 games I saw him throw, even though they hit some grounders there were hit really hard. Also, it’s not just the velo but also that it’s nice to have more than 1 (okay changeup )and a half pitches.

pretty much what I saw too
lots of really hard hit balls.

Yeah, you're right from 02'-09'
Lowe’s average fastball ranged from 87.2 to 89.2, which surprised me
Are you implying that there's a middle ground when it comes to LSB ranking prospects?
Because we either love, hate, or want to copulate with our prospects- that’s it.

And our owners, apparently.
Gracchus (about Obama): I think he knows what America is. America is the mob. Conjure money for them and they'll be distracted. Take away their freedom and still they'll roar. The beating heart of America is not the paper of the Constitution, it's the power of the media. He'll bring them debt - and they will love him for it.

You sure its not hatred for him as a prospect?
People are saying that they have Ben Snyder ahead of him as a prospect. That’s pretty bad,
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

Close the poll and move on, we got a landslide here.

So, is this going to decide #13 as well?
Because it would kinda be a drag having voting for 13 again

I hope not
because right now I cant really see either of these guys being above guys like beltre and strop
"I'm against picketing, but I don't know how to show it." - Mitch Hedberg
Which is a nice sentiment and all
But Strop and Engel combined didn’t pick up the amount of votes Beav got at 12. Unless all of Maxie’s voters would go to one of those guys (or the Beav-doesn’t-K-anyone-crowd sways some pro-Beav’ers), there’s not a realistic chance anyone but Beavan would win #13, so it seems a little silly to have it.
Let’s move on to 14 and let the healing begin

didn't agree with the Beavan vote there
but I agree that it is time to move on.

Don't blame me
I voted Max

It seems to me...
I think for the purposes of consistency, the right decision would be to call this and then vote for #13. That way you give people who voted for Max Ramirez, assuming he will be the winner, an opportunity to vote for somebody else at #13. I say this even though I voted for Blake Beavan at #12 and in this run-off.

I'm voting Beavan
because I can’t stand to see our #12 prospect traded to Boston.
Seriously though, I worry a lot about MaxRam right now. It is amazing how fast guys can lose their prospect status, but my willingness to cut them slack when they are older just goes away entirely. A bad year at 19 or 20, when the guy is two years younger than the rest of his league, and I’m willing to forgive, even ignore. But when the guy is 24 or 25, almost out of options, doesn’t play a position (thus has little intrinsic, less variable, positional value – if he can’t hit he’s worthless), and then has an awful year….I get really concerned. If the Lowell trade doesn’t go through, I put it at 50/50 that MaxRam is still in the organization by August 1st.
At this point, everyone on the list has some warts. But Beavan’s warts seem to have appeared as he was developing other strengths. Maybe that is just part of growing up for him, and the K’s and velocity will come back and he’ll have the plus control as well. Or maybe he’ll just suck. But he’s young, and there is still potential in him.
I’m a ceiling guy, and MaxRam’s ceiling is higher. But he’s awfully close to his floor.
Go Rice Owls!
MaxRam worries me as well
mainly in regards to how much he has been striking out

fwiw
Sickels has his Red Sox rankings up over at http://www.minorleagueball.com/2009/12/14/1201038/boston-red-sox-top-20-prospects
I asked where Max would rank in their system and someone said he would be a B- somewhere between 6-10. it might seem like the Rangers are giving up too much for Lowell but keep in mind that the Red Sox will be paying ~$9M of his salary.

This voting sucks
How do we have a tiebreaker for number 12 and Beltre isn’t an option?

Cause he had 9% and the other 2 had 23%? Ya know? lol
