OT: Oklahoma Casinos
Over the Holiday break from school I am looking to do a little gambling. Normally, I would go to Shreveport, but now I live just north of Dallas and have thought about trying out one of the Oklahoma casinos. Anyone have any knowledge of or recommendations of which Oklahoma casinos to tryout. I am not a big slots player and want to play some table games and get some adult beverages.
Thinks in advance for the help.

Winstar...
is pretty nice. They have been remodeling and updating, and has really come out pretty well. Lots of table games as well

Yep, but it's crappy OK booze, remember that!
Lots a tables, Winstar is HUGE, but I’ve found a lot of people don’t really know what they’re doing on the blackjack tables – I’m sure I don’t have to tell you that can cost you.
Huh?
How other people play at the table doesn’t cost you a dime.

dumbass hits when they shouldn't
Or if they are sitting right before the dealer they can affect what cards he gets. If some idiot splits face cards, etc.

actually that is wrong
that stuff over time evens out and mathematically someone’s bad play does not have any affect over your odds.
What does happen is that you never get a large table going if there are always one or two people that are perceived to be bad players and you want the largest table possible.
But the affect of this isn’t as clear as more people = more money. But basically the idea is that if you don’t have a lot of people playing on the same table, you’ll have large fluctuations in money by playing a lot more hands. You’ll also probably have less randomization of the deck, which probably hurts you in the end.
Really?
There has to be some level of stupidity that hurts you. Like hitting on a 19 when the dealer is showing a 6 or something while you sit there with a 17.

As long as you play your game correctly
everything should work out

think about it
assuming the dealer has 16, the stupid person might draw a card that hurts the dealer but it is just as likely that there is a card that hurts the dealer right behind that card.
the one thing i could maybe envision
is that if you had a counting system, you might need to calibrate it to account for someone who liked to hit a lot. but that’s about it.
but still, for the reasons i mentioned above, i would stay away from a bad player just because i’d want a full table to play with. the worst thing in the world is to hit a bad streak and lose money at an exponential rate when it is just you, the bad player, and the dealer.

If you want to play table games, from what I understand don't go to OK
I’m not 100% sure about this, but I’ve been told for blackjack you have to pay an “ante” for each hand, which they get win, lose, or push. Last I heard it was $0.50/hand which can really cut into your odds after a while.
Again, if my information is old, someone correct me.

Luckystar
Isn’t the biggest or nicest casino around but they pay your antes until 9pm I believe.
Go Rangers!
how nice of them
i would be really interested to know if these ante’s actually help them. seems like a ton of people would be discouraged from playing
Tax
I believe that the state requires them to collect the ante. This is the casino tax that is supposed to go to Oklahoma education. At least that is what several blackjack dealers have told me.
Go Rangers!
Yep, mostly slots......
they do have blackjack (.50c/hand) and a poker room (hold ’em).
And on the weekends its crowded as hell! 8-10 deep waiting for blackjack seats!
The $.50 blackjack ante is brutal
completely ruins the game
"You'll meet them again on their long journey to the middle." -Lester Bangs
last saturday
i was at winstar last saturday and usually go one saturday a month. i mostly play hold’em in the poker room
everytime i have played blackjack there i have always found an open table and most all tables are $5 min (but the beer is $3.50 and it is 3.2 as well you pay $.50 per hand as an ante like others have mentioned)
and yes if you sit a table with somebody that hits on 16 with a dealer showing a 4,5,6 then you should reach over and punch them as they are affecting the game. but i always get up and go to antoher table if stupid people are doing that.

really? how does that even make mathematical sense?
This is just like people who get upset when playing hold em against really loose/bad players. Yes, there will be individual instances where their bad play hurts you, and those individual instances are frustrating, but in the long run youll come out better for having those weak players at your table.
It’s not exactly the same, since weak players wont help you any in BJ, but to say that they hurt just because occasionally their reckless play will be detrimental to you just doesnt comport with common sense

but technically they can help
every time they hit extra and draw a 3 out when the dealer has a 16 helps.
Winstar
The poker room at Winstar is quite nice.
Choctaw’s isn’t bad, but has nothing on Winstar’s new one.

poker rooms fine though
i dropped 100 bucks last week playing poker at riverwind :(
Casinos...
destroyed the Shreveport I grew up loving.
Whatever used to be called the Isle of Capri casino, its parking lot, was built over my childhood home.
I hate those boats more than practically anything on this planet.

If I wanted to give my money away...
I’m far close to Reno or Vegas now than I am Shreveport.
Also, the Horseshoe doesn’t have a boat anymore? I know they did a lot of restructuring and exchanged ownership of all the original boats of Isle of Capri, Horseshoe, Harrah’s, and Casino Magic but I thought Horseshoe was still the cornerstone of the riverboats. The last time I was in the area I thought it was Harrah’s that had moved their operations inland and took over the Louisiana Downs horse track near Haughton.
The whole Arklatex area is a pretty depressing place.

I thought shreveport
was a steaming pile of crap even before the casinos. I was there when they just had horse racing, before the casinos, and the town seemed like a dump.

That's...
one opinion.
I’ve lived in Pre-Casino Shreveport, Post-Casino Shreveport, and the Houston area and I’d take Pre-Casino Shreveport any day of the week.

I'll definitely take Houston over
pre casino or postcasino Shreveport. Maybe it was something in the 60s or early 70s, but by the early 80s it was just a beaten down craphole.

6.50 a pop for makers mark and they give you an exact ounce
a dozen double makers on the rocks cost me around 200 bucks and my whole stack on the poker table :o
