If you could only go to one game this year...?
What would it be? First of all hello, very long time reader, i made a rare post or two like in 07 or 08, but this is my first real statement of substance. I dwell in Tulsa, 26 years old and a Rangers fan, as in obsessed fan, since oh 1992. Growing up in Tulsa I practically lived down in Driller Stadium in my youth and would follow the team there rabidly, and watch in excitement as they promoted South and could watch them on TV. This led to me naturally becoming a Rangers fan.
My father began taking me down to see a game every year since 1993, and I would only get to see one back then due to his busy schedule. I would pour over the schedule and promotions and pick the ideal game I could see. Ive been to some memorable games and moments, from Ryan's number being retired in 1996, the first ever interleague game in 1997 vs the Padres to the game I got all teary eyed at in 2003 when Florida came to the ballpark and there was that nice moment welcoming Pudge back and presenting him with the division title banner........but I've also been to some crappy games, most memorably I watched the entire final series vs. Seatle at the end of the 04 season, were if we would of won the series we would of been primed to over take LA in the last week, only to see them get crushed and momentum killed and the season lost. Ive been down to see them play Boston, an experince I never wish to repeat. And my favorite worse game was this gem: http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/TEX/TEX200506170.shtml (bonus points to who ever first figures out why that was a bad bad bad game)
Sadley due to work I was unable to see a game in 09, my first skipped year since 93. My last game was in 08 and I saw a gem of a game pitched....and i just pretend that the Rangers were wearing Toronto uniforms and that old Roy was pitching for us, made that CG he pitched more enjoyable to watch. So this year I want to go down and watch some good baseball but I'm at a loss of when and against who. Do I go early in the season before everyone gets hurt or traded...after the All Star break so I can get my Smoak on? I know I said game but im thinking more series, just trying to plan my vacation ahead. Im thinking a LA or SEA series for energy sake, do not think I'd like to see a NY game with the Yankee fans all out and about. But then again I see the Pirates making a trip and imagining our bats could put on a show like yesteryears against their AAA pitchers.
But knowing me I'll just go on whatever night they are giving away left over Jason Botts bobble heads at the gates. Any suggestions out there? Didn't mean to write so much, I get awfully wordy in the mornings. Ive always been tempted to get active on here, perhaps this will be my gateway post....

Opening day is always the most fun
Guarantee a capacity crowd with great atmosphere, pre-game festivities, see the new player debuts and the #1 pitcher (and hey we have one!).
May not be feasible to go to an all weekday series for you, but its always my favorite game I attend each year, sans getting lucky with a walkoff or some other special game you can’t predict.
the preceding post was a great success.
Anytime is good for me
As long as i prepare in advance. I went to the first ever game when Houston came to town that was electric. I love watching prospects debut, especially since I catch all most every game when Frisco comes to town, and I can run down to OKC to watch them when the opportunity arises, i was lucky to see Happy down there. On my for sure Oklahoma baseball to do list is see Perez pitch, maybe Beavan as well.

Been to the last 3 opening days...
…and I agree with shep; they are the most fun, without knowing season circumstances. For example, the very best best game I’ve been to was the 2004 game at the very end of the season when the Rangers completed a 3 game sweep vs. the A’s off of (I think) Delucci’s 2 RBI walk off double to stay in playoff contention.

Opening Day is the best

Playoffs
I was at the first ever playoff game at home and in the early part of the game, Pudge gunned out a runner at second trying to steal. I seriously have never heard that place go so crazy. What a great moment.

Hello and welcome,
I always love going to Yankee stadium and watching the Rangers there. I liked it up in Toronto too. I will be going to one of those place this year.
My dream is to go to TBIA. I just cant afford it.

I'm sure you've given it before, and I've probably read it
but whats your story again NYTX? Grow up in Texas?
the preceding post was a great success.
Nah Im born and raised,
in Rochester, NY which is an hour east of Buffalo(Western NY). I became a huge fan of the Rangers in the early 90’s because of Juan and Nolan. I’ve never looked back since. I have such a passion for them. It’s hard though being in NY because everyone is a Yankee fan. My whole family is. I managed to become a Ranger fan and never looked back.
The bloggerformelyknownasBigBaddBubbaJ
You should come down
I have friends and fam in boston and i talked to a bunch of Boston fans who said it was cheaper to fly to Texas and catch a series here in the prime sick seats (think section 31 row 8) for the whole series than to do the same at Fenway.
It’s not as undoable as you think.
I can't help it. I’m an asshole.

Yeah Jay,
that is an idea. If I do come down I will be getting the best seats available. Make it worth my while. I mean in NY the tickets for the middle deck is about 45 bucks I believe which isnt bad. You can see everything so that’s not a prob. The only beef I have with Yankee Stadium is that there is only two spots you can’t get close to the players during batting practice and both are in the outfield. Is it different at TBIA? I hope cause I like B.P. the most.
The bloggerformelyknownasBigBaddBubbaJ
im pretty sure you can sit where ever you like during batting practice
but i could be wrong. my personal favorite games to goto are the lesser teams because we dont get all the fake bandwagon fans coming out who are “yankees fans” or “sawks fans” but only catch the one fox game of the week once a month that their team is on. Lesser teams is a safer bet for a pure good time, but my greatest most exciting moment of last year was sweeping the sawks at home and going to 3 out of 4. it was such sweetness.
anyway, thats my $ 00.02. I hit up like a bunch of games and talked with a bunch of folks who traveled and it made me realize that it kinda made a lot of sense, especially if you have a pad or couch to crash on to save a buck or 2 if you dont care about such things.
hope to see ya at a game. if ya come down, post and let us know because ill throw ya some tips on best bang for your buck, where to park, good spots around the ballpark to pregame, etc. after last season, i consider myself a veteran of the ballpark, we made it to so many games as a group of like 5-8 of us that it made us all figure out the best bang for your buck and the best gameday activities. stuff like where the premium beer guys are so you can get rawr beer, which is a great micro brew and has 2 times the alcohol as the crappy domestic stuff around most of the park (cf and home plate), or where to grab the $1.50 hot dogs every game even when it wasnt dollar dog day. let us know and we will be able to make your game experience a better one.
hope to see ya soom. go rangers

Any game against the Yankees here...
just because my gf is a huge Yankee fan (has been her whole life even though she grew up in the panhandle) and I would love to rub a Ranger sweep in her face.

Game 81 of the season
(if it happens to be a home date). By the midpoint of the season, you’ll know exactly what to look for on the field of play, which is the only thing baseball is about (to me). It makes no difference to me if the club is 60-21 at that midpoint, or if it’s 37-44. I enjoy every game at any level, and to be able to attend an MLB game and watch the best players in the world is a treat. I guess I just don’t feel the entitlement that my team has to be a winner, although I do think the Rangers have the capacity to win.
Also agree that the season opener, the final home game, and any playoff game would be treats.

as crazy at it sounds
i had more fun at the games when we werent doing awesome, once the bandwagon was in full steam, it was great to see the ballpark full, but when its early and everything is still unsettled, maybe its an O’s series, your chances of sitting down and the guy in front of you being a real knowledgeable real baseball fan is greater, and to me sitting next to those kinda guys was a better experience than being surrounded by yankees fans or less knowledgeable rangers fans and going when we are winning a bunch. i loved it when we were doing so well, but once the fans caught on i kinda missed the emptier park and team no1 cared about. it was like we were all in on the secret.
dont get me wrong, when we get good, and i think thats only a matter of time, the winning will be so sweet, i just pray i dont have to witness our own fans as arrogant as some of the fans i see of other teams that come to the park as away fans.
but thats what makes smoking a series against the sawks or angels that much sweeter.
I can't help it. I’m an asshole.

Home openers
Ive been to two, im also toying with the idea of going to another city and watching them as the away team. Kansas City is always an option, would love to see the Twins new stadium…id go pretty much anywhere but Detroit…bad juju there. But at the same time I enjoy the Ballpark so much, even with the eyesore they have behind it now.

Eh, I'd try to attend a game against the Angels or something. Nice crowds show up to those.
I also have no clue what is so bad about the game you posted, but I attended the game the very next day, and it fucking sucked.

Apparently he was thrown out at the plate, too.
I give up. Must have been a personal thing. Did you just miss catching a home run?
