Even if you don’t care, others do and let us decide if we want to use it or not.

Voting no
I could see potential reasons for saying no but I’m curious as to why someone who actually voted no would say no?
Do people think dialogue would actually suffer? I mean, I guess I could possibly see how that would be the case but in practice i doubt it happens
I voted no.
The only person I could see myself using it on would be philkid, but I don’t think everyone here is ‘ready’ for that kind of power yet.

I don't guess it would be possible to block entire subthreads started by ignored posters?
That would make things a lot easier when reading through posts.

I agree 100%. For this poll I fall directly in between “yes” and “don’t care”. If it only ignores a poster but leaves the subthread than I say “don’t care”. I wouldn’t use it in that instance because it would make a lot of the comments section not make sense. If you can additionally ignore the subthread, I would say “Yes”.

It’s why I’ve been scarce lately. It doesn’t do me any good to ignore just the one, when I still see the entire subthreads of argument. Especially if I’m hanging out in a morning things post – the damn “z” keeps pushing me back up to the subthread I’m trying to ignore.

Let me preface this by saying I am one of those hated lurkers who just reads. I find LSB commentators to be extremely knowledgeable about the Rangers and baseball in general, and I enjoy reading what everyone has to say because they are often as insightful as the actual post… BUT as soon as I start hitting Z and I see Josey Donuts’ name appear, I leave, because what follows is going to be the same BS that happens in every thread.
So long story short, I am all for being able to close mini-threads…

Well considering what you have to do to get banned from LSB...
…these people are super extreme to begin with.
The only site I know of that I have been banned from is TexAgs.com, when a few years ago I simply stated that Dennis Franchione should be fired. The mods deleted my comment, so I e-mailed them a “what’s the problem?” type message. They were assholes, so I said I didn’t need their guff, so they banned me. That site does suck, though.
by FuturePants on Dec 18, 2009 10:43 AM CST up reply actions
I've been banned twice on Texags, both were for lashing out mid-game in anger at Fran
Once was during that Colorado game debacle (in Buffalo). Some overzealous mod gave me a week for what should have been a 24 hour ban at most.
The other was during the game against La Tech at Kyle where we looked horrifically bad in the first half. Admittedly, I was pushing to see if I could get banned that night. I only got a 24 hour banning.
The free football board is complete garbage nowadays. Once I upgraded to premium subscriber, I quit even checking it. The premium boards are where it’s at, still the best Aggie talk anywhere. I’m also a big fan of the entertainment and history boards.

i voted 'i dont care'
I dont really think it’d be very useful. There are some users who I find annoying 80-90% of the time, but that doesnt necessarily mean I wouldnt want to read ANY of their posts. It could also get confusing if their posts were blocked but replies to those posts from other users were retained. On the other hand, if the entire subthread got blocked that’d remove posts from users I dont mind.
I suppose it’s no biggie if other people want access to this feature, but let’s not pretend introducing it wouldnt have effects, even for those who dont use it. Even if I choose not to utilize it, other people could block other certain people, removing the possibility of certain subthreads from developing, subthreads which can sometimes be entertaining.
My thought is, this: if a user is so egregious that youd want to ignore them entirely, its probably cause for Adam to ban them. If they simply annoy you, just ignore them the old fashioned way.

I like baseball prospectus' ignore system
If a comment gets a negative vote by X number posters, it and the subthread get collapsed with a note that it’s been judged below the threshold by readers. If you want, you can click “view anyway” and participate in the subthread, but for everyone else it just collapses it to a single line, thus not cluttering the entire comment section.

oh man that's awesome
I don’t know why I didn’t think of suggesting a mod system for this board before.
Lots of the biggest boards around use a ranking system that allows great, insightful, interesting, funny posts to rise to the top, and awful trollish ones are hidden. Slashdot is an amazing community and their modding system for posts is amazing.
It would be so amazing if that was implemented here………

what does this poll do?
I feel like we’ve done this poll before. Are the higher ups really looking into it.
I actually voted yes
much to my surprise. I’m not going to go out of away to install a script, but if it were there, then I think I’d use it.
The problem is not that these posters’ comments are necessarily offensive. When they are relevant, everyone is entitled to their opinion, even if they are restating it over and over again. The problem is that someone will make a nice point about something going on. Poster X will then respond with inflammatory stuff that is completely irrelevant to the original post. Then the peanut gallery starts jumping in because they figure that this is their one chance to look smart in an anonymous forum. And before you know it, the intelligent, interesting, and pertinent comment that was first made is completely ignored.
The quality of dialogue has gone down around here, and it isn’t because of one person.
Go Rice Owls!
Completely agree.
The only people I’d feel like ignoring are the antagonistic curmudgeons and outright trolls. No matter what point of view someone has, as long as they’re not an asshole or a bit-wielding fool I’m fine with it.
Take Large Steven, for instance. I think I’ve agreed with him about five times since I’ve joined this site, but while he’s been antagonistic, it’s not a habit enough for me to feel like blocking him. And I’d wager most people agree with me and don’t see it as a way of ignoring people who simply don’t agree with them.
I should have voted yes
So I could ignore all the people whining about posters who they argue with constantly and say they want to ignore; while doing the exact opposite.

Collapsable threads would be better
Ignore would be nice but a little “-” out to the side where I could minimize the detour of discussion would be a nice add even if it’s only on the original/parent post.
It would also be nice
