Are we trying to download Mike Lowell from Rapidshare or something?

I failed my LSB ethics test.

If it doesn't we'll probably just wait 15 minutes and download Jermaine Dye instead

Corrupted download

No luck there. Try the Vlad Guerreo, Gary Sheffield, Troy Glaus or heres a new one Carlos Delgado link

I still believe!

by LSU Ranger on Dec 18, 2009 3:10 AM CST up reply actions

this is just a bad deal all around

i really hope it falls through, and not because i love max to death or hate lowell, i just think we have other options that i consider better that i feel we should explore first. Keep max, even if its just for a different trade later on. no sense in using ammo you dont need to.

I can't help it. I’m an asshole.

Amen.

This deal is so confusing…

How much more than 3mm would Gomes/Thome or Church/Atkins or some combo out there cost us? 5 million total?

And we’d get to get to keep Max, which might actually matter given how fragile Salty and Teagarden have been looking.

Yah, saw that right after I posted.

He probably deserves to be in another category from the DH/1b/LF guys cause teams view him as an everyday 3b for some reason.

He’s been pretty bad with the glove throughout his career and his career .252/.324/.411 line away from Coors has to scare you.

Ugh

Would people please quit suggesting that the Rangers should just “throw in” the extra $3-4M to get guys better than Lowell? Newsflash: The Rangers have no money!!! It is not an option, get over it.

by Tex34 on Dec 18, 2009 7:52 AM CST reply actions

but

you could keep Max, and spend the 3M Lowell is getting on a Tatis/Garko, and get arguably the same production. Although you would lose out on the Veteranocity© of Lowell.

by BHill on Dec 18, 2009 9:00 AM CST up reply actions

no kidding

talk about overrated value around here with Tatis. He’s a bench player. I don’t want my DH to be a bench player

by NothinG on Dec 18, 2009 9:15 AM CST up reply actions

This is a bench role, right?

A right handed bat to pair with Murphy or whoever else splits DH time, and can hopefully provide a little defensive flexibility. I didn’t think the Rangers were looking to get a full-time DH.

by BHill on Dec 18, 2009 9:50 AM CST up reply actions

I consider Murphy a 4th OFer

not a DH.

The more I read this the more it is starting to suck.
  1. mil for a healthy Lowell is not bad at all. 3 mil for a injured player, plus max, is to much. However, look at the amount other guys are signing for. Lowell healthy isnt a bad option at all.

no reason to do it as is

At this point I see no reason to do the deal as it has been widely reported with us picking up 3 million and giving up MaxRam. It wouldn’t surprise me one bit if the Sox ended up either releasing Lowell or doing a much worse deal for him if this doesnt go through. Ask for another couple million or try to pull Ramirez out of the deal and walk if they don’t agree. Or if the rhumb is that much of an issue just walk and don’t look back.

I think they would want Smoak over CD..

and I’m sure we’d have to give up more than that.

is Lowell sticking his thumb up his ass or what?

what’s the hold up? Get it done, or move on. Damn

by NothinG on Dec 18, 2009 9:18 AM CST reply actions

Hey, if Lowell wants to fake that his thumb is worse than it is...

so be it.

but yes, i don’t get the delay. even accounting for wanting a team specialist to personally check the thumb, it shouldn’t take this long.

Something yesterday said it should be resolved by the weekend.. well, hurry up. I want a DH by next weekend.

the preceding post was a great success.

well, for one thing I said I want, not that JD will be an idiot if he doesn’t.

but you know.. players can sign elsewhere if you wait around too long.

Very encouraging statement from Greenberg
“If we need to make a move leading up to the Trade Deadline, money will not stop us from doing so,” Greenberg said.

Finally an owner who wants to win.

I think Hicks wanted to win but either misallocated resources (the early years)

Or didn’t have them (the last few years)

Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.

by bigsteve on Dec 18, 2009 9:23 AM CST up reply actions

well every owner wants to win, some are just better at it/willing to sacrifice more to get there.

and im excited about greenberg too, but let’s not forget hicks made similar comments about an openness to spend to add the right piece and so forth, but we’ve seen how that’s worked out. im excited about him, but there’s no guarantee he follows through with that promise.

by Smoakin in the Boys Room on Dec 18, 2009 9:23 AM CST up reply actions

that's the way he makes it sound

we all know the saying about actions, and that is what I want to see. Anybody can be a politician and say the right things, but will his actions support this.

by NothinG on Dec 18, 2009 9:50 AM CST up reply actions

I think

a bad owner gets sucked into the black hole of spending and overspends. He pays for a guy, it doesn’t quite work out, so he moneywhips someone else and someone else and someone else and all the sudden your payroll is through the roof and your financial flexibility is gone. That is why it takes a really smart baseball guy to go along with the available money. Look at the early 2000 Rangers. I thought we would score 3,000 runs with A-Rod, Caminiti, Gallaraga etc.

too bad

we can’t make that move now in FA and save some prospects, but I guess I should take what I can get at this point…

which brings up an interesting question…who will be available in a trade in July this year? Probably not Halladay or Lee, and probably not Atlanta’s Vasquez or Red Sox’s Beckett.

Josh Johnson? Maybe. Brandon Webb? I doubt the DBacks will be out of it in that division, and they’ve gutted their farm in recent years in an attempt to win now.

I don’t see a lot of options…

What is this, Horseville? Because I'm surrounded by naysayers.

by clark on Dec 18, 2009 11:29 AM CST up reply actions

The Marlins pitchers seem like the best bet.

One wonders what Lee would fetch considering he’s been traded at below market value twice in the last 6 months now. The Seattle GM probably wouldn’t be averse to trading him within the division…but that’s assuming that the Felix-Lee combo isn’t pummeling the AL West to put the M’s in first.

If Brad Pitt is playing Beane who do you want playing you?
JD: Eddie Guardado.

by GhettoBear04 on Dec 18, 2009 11:55 AM CST up reply actions

Realistically what are the other options?

Every other option has its warts. There really is no good option right now. Our only hope is that Smoak gets it together and starts raking like we know he will.

I didn't know what a mancrush was. Derek Holland showed me.

by DerekSTheRed on Dec 18, 2009 9:40 AM CST reply actions

Giving smoak one more year in the minors with

lowell at the Major League level should only make things better in ’11.
