Dallas Cowboys New Orleans Saint's Gameday Thread

Time to end those December woes Dallas Cowboys.  Holding Drew Brees to those short passes out into the flat and making solid tackles will be key to stealing a win in the Bayou.  After watching each of the past few Saints games, the Cowboys have to take advantage of the early mistakes that the Saints tend to make, while limiting their own penalties.  As good as Drew Brees has been, he's not superman, and to be blatantly honest, I think he's a little overrated.  This cowboys team never does what anyone expects them to do.  With all the pundits in the world against them, my prediction: Cowboys pull out a victory 30-24.  Discuss!

Ps, Saints fans have got to be some of the most overconfident fans in the world.  But then again, so must Cowboys fans.

I don’t see the Cowboys winning either way, though.

I think the Cowboys are good enough to beat the Saints.

I just don’t think they will.

Exactly.

Which is why I don’t have a whole lot of faith in them beating New Orleans. I think they can do it, I just think it will be the same old penalty ridden stupid play-calling bullshit we’ve been seeing. I have no faith in their ability to fix these things. If they haven’t done it by now, they’re not going to do it. Not under these coaches anyway.

Expect the worst, hope for the best.

I feel the same way right now I did going into the Philly game to end last year, which means, I don’t have any reason to believe this team can come up big when all the chips are down.

I feel very similarly as I did that day

but for whatever reason, i feel like we’ll pull out a win. Newy Scruggs called me a fool on The Fan, and a Wade Phillips apologist, but I really think the Cowboys will finally put up a great fight and win the game.

I expect the outcome of this game

to be similar to the one when we last played the Saints. We got our asses handed to us 42-17.

Yep. This game has the feeling of inevitability about it.

I hope they show up and play with some fire in their ass, but that’s just not this team’s character. Still, it’s the NFL and anything can happen.

by Athos on Dec 19, 2009 6:27 PM CST up reply actions

I honestly am looking for a 45-48 victory by the Cowboys.

I have Brees as my fantasy QB, Hartley as my kicker, and Miles Austin as my WR. I need points and a Cowboy win. The NO secondary is banged up, which bodes well. This thing looks it’s going to be a supersweet shoot-out.

Give me team chemistry and emotion over stats any day. Do you think 34,000 Ranger fans were screaming their asses off over Pudge and his .275 OBP?

As a guy who grew up in Louisiana...

as a Cowboy fan, I can say, any confidence Saints fans have, even in a pending undefeated season, is blind hope.

They’re used to that team blowing up in their face in every way imaginable. Think of them like the Texas Rangers of football. Now imagine it is late in September and the Rangers are making a run for the Mariners season win record. I think all Ranger fans would be unmercifully joyful and cocky just because we were used to being on the other end of the ass beating.

I hope the Cowboys win by 20, however.

by ghostofErikThompson on Dec 19, 2009 5:08 PM CST reply actions

I think they need to absolutely anything they can to pressure Brees

like mixing in some crazy blitz packages.

Or they just try and contain them to about 27, and hope the offense can squeeze out barely enough.

I throw everything I have at this game. Trick plays, fancy defenses, everything.

Maybe even start out with an onside kick if I kickoff at the beginning.

They're probably going to score anyway, so field position against them is meaningless.

Might as well try to keep the ball out of Brees’ hands.

So did anyone else see Avatar yet?

Kind of interested to hear what some others around here thought about it. I can see some people finding it too cheesy and ridiculous in a “12 foot tall blue cat people” kind of way, but i really enjoyed it.

As for the cowboys.. I think the offense will be able to move the ball enough that they should be able to stay in it.. they just have to actually get in the endzone, and thats a problem.. we will see. Also scared of a bit INT day from Romo trying to keep up with the saints. Crazy that hes been one of the safest passers in the league thus far with his reputation.

Incidentally

I watched all 70 minutes of the YouTube Phantom Menace review this afternoon. It was interesting and entertaining, and obviously a ton of effort went into it, but I couldn’t help but think that, if it is that long and that big a project, they’d have done a little better job honing in on the logical inconsistencies than they did.

by Adam J. Morris on Dec 19, 2009 6:05 PM CST up reply actions

I saw that today.

It was pretty great. I went into it telling myself I would only watch the first one if it was a bit boring but I ended up watching all of it. “What’s wrong with your face?”

It's Cameron. Look at other Cameron movies

Titanic had a pretty predictable conflict involving status and happiness. True Lies… could have swore that was a movie about hunting down terrorists until it segued into that whole ‘cheating wife’ subplot.

I love how the terrorists come crashing into the hotel room totally out of nowhere in True Lies, with no motivation whatsoever.

With Cameron you have to expect a nice layer of cheese on top of any dish he serves up

story

Its very very predictable. People call it Dances with Wolves, and it is. You know whats going to happen every step of the way.

But, its also somewhat a of a timeless story that has merit as a narrative, still some relevance to the themes. Easy to follow, heh. The story isn’t a real feature of the film, but it doesn’t ever get in the way or stand out with “what were they thinking” moments.

Very little character development and some cheesy one liners and moments too. And some people won’t like the heavy handed anti-coroporation/greed stuff.

But its well paced, pretty well acted, the story can still be compelling, the visuals enhance every scene and provide an incredible finale. Lot of fun. And the visuals is more than just the technical 3d creations, the direction of the shots is great too.

And the cg characters do very well performance wise, its all translated from actors in mo-cap. The main heroine in particular.

Even if I can pick it apart afterwards, I did love watching it and am going to see it in Imax 3d next week and see how that compares to a normal theaters real 3d.

On a related note, am I the only one who feels Romo doesn't run enough?

I don’t want him to become a scrambler, but I feel like sometimes he’s the opposite of what Vick use to be, where he passes up potential gains on the ground looking too long at receivers. He’s a decent athlete, he can pick up some yards that way now and then.

"Shocked Super Dome. . ."

Okay, maybe they are shocked, but I feel like NFLN is building this as the upset of the milenium or something.

The Saints have gone down early to a ton of teams, and the team they are currently playing is, in fact, good (no matter how much we Cowboys fans hate them). Bizarre.

by philkid3 on Dec 19, 2009 8:58 PM CST reply actions

The NFL Network...

wants the “one more step to history” storyline.

The NFL would love nothing more than an undefeated Colts team to face off against an undefeated Saints team in the Super Bowl.

Plus, a Cowboy win goes against the “December meltdown” storyline they love so much.

Took out Ratliff, Olshansky, Spears, Brooking, and a couple of other guys and put in guys like Bowen, Hatcher, Siavii, Barbie, and Scandrick for nearly two whole defensive series. That’s why they just marched it right up the field for two touchdowns in the 4th quarter. Once Wade realized he fucked up he put the starters back in when it was almost too late. Moron almost cost us the game. My mind hasn’t changed, he needs to be fired.

Because he was talking trash all week and laughing at anybody who said the Cowboys could beat the Saints.

Same with Newy Scruggs. I can’t wait to hear what those two ass-clowns have to say about this. It was funny listening to Jamie Dukes, can’t wait to hear Tony Dungy’s thoughts too. The Cowboys are a good team and have the potential to be Super Bowl caliber. My mind still hasn’t changed about our coaching staff though, I don’t care if we did be the Saints.

Jimmy Johnson for GM.

by TXHC on Dec 20, 2009 6:38 PM CST up reply actions

The Cowboys just won

The single highest degree of difficulty game there is in the NFL right now. AT New Orleans.

I guess you could argue something about Indy in hindsight, but they haven’t really been playing any better recently than NO going into the game, and surely have less of a homefield advantage.

This still makes the Cowboys only 2-5 against teams with winning records. However, the two wins featured extreme degrees of difficulty. And two losses are against the Giants.

All the teams competing with us for playoffs play patsies this week imo. I have zero respect for either Wash or SF because of their poor OC’s, but hopefully one can rise up. GB has a tough game, but theyre the team basically least likely to keep us out of the playoffs.

by Sharky on Dec 20, 2009 8:30 AM CST reply actions

well

i really didn’t think the defense had it in them and once that 4th quarter started it was really looking that way. but the saints really couldn’t pass block and if we had a high school kicker or a possession receiver that actually catches balls we would have sealed the game with an offensive drive.

anyway, solid performances from both sides of the ball
