Good hell...
will someone just buy this fucking team already so they can move on with things. I know it can’t be an fast and easy process, but I’m just done with all the speculation.

hey I don't care what he's riding when he rides off in the sunset...
as long as he keeps on riding and never comes back.

I'm with Grant on this
I don’t see any reason at all to take any of these reports as gospel.

generally I consider
almost any report from Heyman as posturing, so this is no surprise. I hoping it’s Greenberg, but I would be ok with Gilbert too.
Yep
Heyman has a lot of cleanup to do just to shed the “Boras mouthpiece” label. He doesn’t exactly take moonshots, but from my seat in the back row, much of the little I’ve read from him seems to have an agenda.

Once the team is sold to a buyer...
Can the purse strings open once that’s announced? Or do we still have to wait through the several month approval process?
I guess I’m asking… Assuming we have a satisfying bid ASAP, is there any hope that anything can happen this offseason to make this team better through added payroll? Or are we pretty much stuck where we’re at this offseason regardless of how soon this gets done?
We can pick of the scrap heap in February
or make a trade to move Millwood and sign a quality free agent pitcher. That and sign a utility guy and a cheap bat are about all that can be done at the moment.
No matter how much money the team has
it’s smart to wait this offseason for bargains. Unless you’re going to shell out for Holliday there’s no point in jumping in to buy most of the rest of the weak free agent market available. I’m not interested in hardly any of the free agent pitchers that won’t still be available on incentive type deals later on.
The real pain of a payroll squeeze is how it limits your options in the trade market right now. This is the kind of winter you could really pick up some good talent if you’re able to take on uncomfortable contracts.
G G G E-flat_______ F F F D__________....
Yeah, agreed.
Adding on: Next offseason’s free agent crop looks to be pretty amazing, assuming none of them re-up with their teams. You can take a look here. Highlights include:
Joe Mauer Josh Becket
Derek Lee Roy Halladay
Victor Martinez Brandon Webb
Carl Crawford Matt Cain
Jayson Werth Cliff Lee
Freddy Sanchez Ted Lilly
Next offseason would be a great offseason to have money. What’s that? We’ll have a new owner and Kevin Millwood’s contract coming off the books? Contract-wise, this team is basically going to be Michael Young (16 Million) and the PoorBoys, excluding Ian Kinsler.
If Brad Pitt is playing Beane who do you want playing you?

Pohlad's dead, but the Twins have never been record setters when it comes to contracts
The only way Mauer stays in Minnesota is if he chooses to leave a considerable amount of money on the table by re-inking with the Twinkies.
I think Mauer is gone after 2010.
Yeah, he loves the Twins and is from the area but wasn’t he supposed to go to Florida State on a football scholarship instead of anywhere in the Big 10?
The prospect of playing for the Yankees in his prime right when Posada is leaving makes too much sense.

Or Red Sox.
Victor Martinez and Jason Varitek’s contracts end next year, too.

Mauer
I think the Twins make an effort to resign him but fail. He’s going to get huge money.

They're in a tough spot
because this is a hometown kid, they’re opening a new ballpark and they may contend for the division next year.

contending
Yeah, I don’t think they can trade him because they won’t be far enough away from first place (or might be in first place) in that up and down division.

Ted Lilly and Freddy Sanchez
You can remove them from the “highlights” group.
I’d say, of the other 10, half with sign with their current team (or get traded and sign with that team before f.a. starts), another couple will get hurt.
So there will be maybe 3 marquee guys on the market. Expanding “marquee” to include, say, Jayson Werth.

This ties into the earlier discussion about leaks and anonymous sources
What probably happened is that someone from the Gilbert group called Heyman and said, “Hey, it looks like we’re the front runner.” So Heyman, given the source, could write it. Plus, you’ll notice the sale price mentioned in the Heyman story. That’s more posturing, in an attempt to intimidate the other side. Or it might even be Hicks leaking the story in an attempt to boost the price. Stuff like this happens all the time.
Where is Mick Kelleher when we need him?
I also imagine
somebody from the Hicks camp if spoon-feeding EG information as well.

For this reason
I wouldn’t take anything EG has to say about the ownership situation seriously. He’s an extension of the Tom Hicks Marketing Department.

Why the Hicks camp?
What motivation is there for Hicks to say that Greenberg, rather than Gilbert, is the favorite?

LSB...
just got another mention on the Ticket about the debt / value post. Good stuff!
is a fan of Derek Freaking Holland!
I think
that the tell tale sign here is that Hicks is negotiating to become a member of Gilberts group, which I think it what Hicks wants, to still be around this thing.
If Hicks is apart of Gilbert’s group, Gilbert gets the team. I dont care who gets it, as long as they infuse the team with capital, get a new scoreboard for Chuck, and look into setting up a Rangers media network, that would be great for revenue.
