Breakdown of arbitration offers to free agents

MLB Daily Dish has a nice, handy chart running down which free agents were offered arbitration, which weren't, and the classification of each free agent.

The next deadline is December 12, which is the deadline for tendering arbitration to non-free-agent players.  The Rangers' group of arb-eligibles consists of Scott Feldman, Josh Hamilton, Frankie Francisco, C.J. Wilson, Dustin Nippert, Brandon McCarthy, and Esteban German, and everyone other than German should end up being tendered.

However, on December 12, there will be some decent players that will end up getting non-tendered and thus join the free agent pool, and I think that, given the Rangers' situation, you could see them pursuing some of those guys once they are on the market.

good list

much more visually appealing site to look at than mlbtraderumors.

Though it’d be nice if the A’s and the B’s were easier to distinguish.

Go Rice Owls!

Being a Rangers fan is never easy

Our farm system has been built as one of the best and deepest, especially in regards to pitching, and just when it looked as though we were going to compete and supplement our needs via free agency, we instead are going to scrape the bottom of the barrel because we have no alternative.

Granted, next years free agency is going to be filled with much more alluring FAs and hopefully new ownership can take advantage of that, but the opportunity to win is now.

A baseball game is simply a nervous breakdown divided into nine innings.

That's before

most of the ‘alluring’ FAs get re-signed.

But if Jackass Hicks retains the team, I don’t see how it’s going to be any different next off-season. The fans will only show up if the team is winning, and that won’t happen without significant upgrades THIS year

OT: Are we totally sure Halladay doesn't want to come to Texas?

Apparently he’s given the Blue Jays a deadline to deal him, and I can’t imagine Whatshisface wanting to deal him to the Yankees (within the division)

I thought he said

he wouldn’t give up his no trade for Texas

"I don't condone steroids or any other type of growth hormones or anything else, but I could care less, and, for the most part, I don't think the fans give a (bleep). The people that care about it are the people that probably don't like baseball," - Jim Leyland

From heyman (i know....) today
With that in mind, people who know Halladay say he is sure to approve at least the Yankees, Red Sox and Phillies, based on his three major criteria:

1. A team that perennially wins.

2. A team that trains in Florida, preferably on the west coast of Florida, near his Oldsmar home

3. A team that perennially wins. (Yup, it’s that important.)

With those objectives in mind, the Yankees, Red Sox and Phillies look like the best fits. The Angels qualify under Nos. 1 and 3 but miss on No. 2, while the Mets may have an issue with 1 and 3. The one team Halladay was known to be cool toward last summer was the Texas Rangers, who train in Arizona.

"Cool toward"

Exactly what in the hell does that mean?

I failed my LSB ethics test.

That's what I thought

But since “cool” can also mean the opposite… simple case of terrible phrasing.

Valverde

Every time I see his name, I crack up, because of one of my dumbass friends, who can’t say “Valverde” without using his dramatic Ricardo Montalban voice…

"Just remember what ol' Jack Burton does when the earth quakes, and the poison arrows fall from the sky, and the pillars of Heaven shake. Yeah, Jack Burton just looks that big ol' storm right square in the eye and he says, "Give me your best shot, pal. I can take it."

the dodgers were idiots

not so much with Padilla but with Randy Wolf. I don’t think there is any way he accepted arbitration. They didn’t offer anyone arbitration.

Wolf

Not sure what he’d cost, but that’s one guy I wouldn’t mind signing if the price isn’t too high.

Wonder if the McCourt divorce has anything to do with that?

Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.

That's what I was thinking

But then again maybe they believe that they can build around Kershaw and outhit the weak-hitting west

I still believe!
