T.R. Sullivan: It is down to Gilbert & Greenberg
T.R. Sullivan has a story up saying that the competition for buying the Rangers is down to Dennis Gilbert and Chuck Greenberg, with Sullivan quoting sources as saying it is 50/50 as to which it will be.
Sullivan also suggests that Nolan Ryan will not be involved with Gilbert's ownership group, and that a final decision is due by December 15, but it won't come in time to allow the front office to change their approach to the offseason.

NHL Approval
Is there any precedent for a team in one league being sold contingent on approval by an unaffiliated league? I can’t help but think that this might drag the whole process to a snail’s pace, which of course, makes me sad.

Hicks could end up being a partner in Gilbert’s group, although that’s still being negotiated.
I hope not. Baseball better git rid of Hicks even if that means vetoing a deal involving Gilbert.
The bloggerformelyknownasBigBaddBubbaJ
I couldn't care less if Hicks were involved in a minority share...
Wouldn’t make any difference whatsoever…
this is gonna drag on );
But because the Rangers are being sold to satisfy a substantial debt incurred by Hicks Sports Group, any transfer of ownership must also be approved by the NHL and the banks that hold the HSG debt. The NHL is involved because HSG also owns the Dallas Stars.

I bet that MLB could buy out the NHL
by sending a couple hundred bucks and offering to buy some used zamboni’s from them for the Twins new stadium.
Go Rice Owls!

The Giants, Mets, and Royals have interest in free agent catcher Ivan Rodriguez, assuming he doesn’t accept the Rangers’ arbitration offer.
I think Pudge comes back, but if he is offered a better deal and goes to another team I won’t be upset. That nets us a pick. Another smart move by JD.
The bloggerformelyknownasBigBaddBubbaJ
Sorry AJM
The Rangers aren’t going to be involved with Guerrero unless his market value has seriously diminished. That same holds true with Mike Cameron,
Doesn’t look like we will get Cameron 0:

Even Mike Cameron and Vlad Guerrero are to expensive for us
If it wasn’t so pathetic, it would be funny.

Not that we don't have the money..that's sad =(
But atleast we aren’t going to spend it on those hacks.
Mike Cameron isn't exactly a hack
I’m not in love with him like AJM, but he’s still a decent CFer. Not someone who would help that much on the offensive side of things, but since the org doesn’t trust Borbon I wouldn’t have minded him here.
I didn’t really want Guerrero here, but if we can’t afford him that means we obviously can’t sign anyone better than him, either. Which means no Nick Johnson, and probably no Jim Thome or Troy Glaus either.

Basically, this is all a realization that this team is going nowhere in 2010.

Well
Not if EVERYTHING goes right. Conceivably they could do better than last year. Maybe make a little more noise. But it would take a lotta luck.

it might be the Royals and the Pirates in the World Series.

Looks that way...
hope for the best with what’s here in 2010….go for it in 2011?

Yeah, I think we can start that rally cry.
I look at it this way though: 2010 already being in the toilet gives Feliz a chance to get acclimated to the rotation and build up his innings, Holland a chance to get good, and us time to be as patient as need be with Smoak. Plus it’ll make primetime Marin Perez time.
So really, there might not be anything wrong with losing one more season to the ineptitude of Tom Hicks.

I can deal with that as long as there is more progress next season...
The excitement of seeing Feliz, Holland and Elvis was great last season and I’m just as excited about watching Smoak and Perez.. Patience….patience….patience….we’ve waited this long, what’s a year more?

I don't think the org doesn't trust Borbon
I think that they didn’t think he was ready last year to take over the everyday CF job, but I do think they are comfortable going into next season with him as the main CF candidate.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.
"I am one of the biggest Texas Ranger fans out there but I'm also one of the smartest. Deal with it."

What has changed though?
I hope you’re right and hey are comfortable with him now, but I haven’t see anything that makes me think they will put him in CF yet.

It's been one
And he was pretty good in 2008. I don’t expect him to be expensive, but he should get a decent 1-year deal from someone.
And it appears we can’t even afford the shitty/mediocre players right now, so obviously there’s no way we can afford the halfway decent ones.

I wouldn't call Glaus halfway decent. he's more in your mediocre category
A baseball game is simply a nervous breakdown divided into nine innings.
The last three years leading up to his injury last season
He wOBA’d .366, .363 and .371. I wouldn’t call that mediocre.
Now, what the injury has done to him is the big question, but if he’s fully healthy again he could still have some good years left. He’s had a full year to recover and he’s 33 – so it’s not like he’s a relic like all the guys we’ve been connected to so far.

i think ive read gilbert would keep
the front office in tact. what about the other group? The only thing i really care about when it comes to who buys the rangers is that the rangers direction doesnt change and Daniels keeps his job though next year
Nolan is a partner with the other group...
So you’d assume it would remain in tact…
What makes Nolan so tactful?
I always thought he’d be a pretty blunt guy?

For all intensive purposes he is
It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone. You count on it, rely on it to buffer the passage of time, to keep the memory of sunshine and high skies alive, and then just when the days are all twilight, when you need it most, it stops.
Great play on words
The phrase is “intents and purposes”, but with Nolan, “intensive purposes” has cache.

misrepresenting his own accomplishments, or taking credit for the accomplishments of others, is something more than blatant self marketing. Yellow flag … or orange … could even be red.

both sound good to me and are an improvement over Hicks. I just want somebody that is willing to invest in this team and be 100% commited.

I mean, honestly, who’d want to do that?

Serious question - anyone following the Stars economics as of late?
I haven’t but if they’re in the same boat as the Rangers, NHL might very well want to move quickly as well.

If...
Both groups keep Nolan, JD, and Thad in the same structure, and allow JD and Nolan to keep going with their front office restructuring/optimization, and as long as both invest in a new scoreboard for Chuck, and look into a Rangers or DFW media network, Im good with it….
