Thanks I missed it

I appreciate the thought, but that work is the product of David Brown

I think that list is very possible...
except Font.

I want Font to turn into Neftali II as much as anyone,
but I fear that he has too many holes in his game to handle Bakersfield. The Rangers have run a lot of 20 year old pitchers through the Cal League in the past 3 years, and significant flaws have been exposed in almost all of them. Flyballs and poor control are not a good combination for what he is about to face.

I'm not sure that he will start in Bakersfield
I wouldn’t be surprised if he starts the season in Hickory, in fact I kinda expect that.
What a drag it is being broke.
You don't think it's time to challenge him?
I expect to see him in Frisco this year.. i’d be pretty disappointed if I don’t
I think he's the kind of kid that they will eventually challenge
but they might want to let hiim get a bit more experience and taste some sustained success first. He has only 158 innings over 3 years in the system. My guess is that they might have him on a similar schedule as what we saw for Martin Perez last season…let him go back to a familiar place, where he is still age appropriate, and if all goes well maybe a promotion straight to Frisco for the last month or two.
I don’t really have anything to base that on, just a guess.
What a drag it is being broke.
Is Jumbo Diaz going to be at Frisco this year?
Seems like he’s an older version of Font, no?

That would be one of Font's worst scenarios
But, yes, I think we did re-sign him as a minor league free agent.
Yeah, and he needs to work on his breaking ball
Hickory would be a better place to do that.

Hi, Keith. Is this the year Edinson Volquez finally wins RoY?

a much better place for that
There have been rumors of a somewhat fragile psyche with this guy, which I don’t think is all that troubling considering his age and background. But considering that, I don’t see the need to send him to a place that seems so ill suited for what he needs – confidence and the ability to work on command and his curve.
What a drag it is being broke.
Font is rule 5 eligible after 2010
They need to challenge him this year or risk being put in a serious bind. Its will be hard to protect a 20/21 year old with limited High A experience (assuming he starts in Hickory like you say) on the 40 man roster when you are in the situation we are in.
Some other team may see the upside and take a flyer on him and who knows what happens.

well
it is just as hard for them to take him and keep him on the active 25 as it would be for us to keep him on the 40….as a matter of fact, id say it would be more difficult and border on impossible
Fuck Mike Estabrook
For 50K with his upside
You take him, bring him to spring training, and as long as he doesn’t embarass himself you can stash him in the pen for most of the year especially if you are a team like the Nationals or Pirates or someone who isn’t gonna be good anyway. I would hate to lose Font for absolutely nothing just because we didn’t challenge him with a High A promotion after spending a full year in Low A and doing damn well there

Johan Santana didn't have much experience above High A.
He results in the low minors weren’t even that impressive. Minnesota took him anyway.

Oops.
He had ZERO experience above High A.
Also, his numbers were pretty sexy. My bad.

Perez wasn't repeating Hickory.
I could see Font starting in Hickory again, but I don’t think it will happen.

Feliz skipped Bakersfield.
He probably would have seen his numbers suck a bit there, too.

Yeah
The only way I see Font starting again in Hickory is if the Rangers plan on skipping Bakersfield all together for him.

Everybody credits Brad Holman with getting thru to Font in a big way.
Why not have him start off in Hickory with Holman before sending him up to BAK when the young arms in extended come up to HIC in May? I could see it.
on the disappointments and surprises.
I disagree about Font.
Strongly agree on Alvarez and DiFazio (I think he’ll be in AAA by the end of the year and may see the Rangers in ’11) and Boscan.
One thing to think about was how wretched the Hickory defense was last year: 158 unearned runs and a .310 BABIP is howlingly bad. Leury Garcia had 43 errors in 83 games at shortstop, Matt West had 33 errors in 120 games at third, the 4 guys who played second base combined for 42 errors. That really messes up the stats of the pitchers. Boscan’s RA was 4.87, Joe Weiland’s was 7.26, Font’s was 4.24, which is why I think he’ll be ok in Bakersfield.
Leury Garcia and Matt West are likely to be in Bakersfield, too.
And Clark Murphy might rejoin them! I hope that the Hickory infielders are making huge strides this offseason.
The Bakersfield pitchers need to hope that Velazquez and Beltre team up to patrol the outfield and that the Rangers decide to surround their young pitcers with a few veteran infielders. Otherwise, this could be ugly again.
