I think someone...
else mentioned it in another thread, but remember the prank some of the guys played on Eddie. That he was traded to the Nats.
Well, it’s not a prank anymore. Have fun in DC Everyday.

Haven't Nats fans suffered enough?

Hi, Keith. Is this the year Edinson Volquez finally wins RoY?

A nice park to lose in and a pitcher who'll be counting down the years until he can force a trade or leave via FA unless the Nats improve doesn't sound all that inspring to me.
I failed my LSB ethics test.

a nice park is still a nice park
and, hey, at least they’ll have a chance to see “teh prospect of the decade!!” for 6 years.
Been there a few times
Nothing special.
In one of the cooler neighborhoods of DC, and it is sunk down in the ground in a somewhat clever way, but other than that, pretty pedestrian and run of the mill.

In Fifteen years
Guardado will qualify for social security. (though he’ll still probably be pitching…)
So apparently Kinslerhomer decided enough was enough with the CPP?
or did dirkatron murder him in his sleep?
hmm
“I’ve been watching Eddie throw for The Rangers here for the last few seasons, and he’s done great. Not only that, but the fans here absolutely loved the guy- the stadium always went nuts when he came trotting out of the bullpen. If he feels like he has some juice, more power to him. I guess we’ll find out soon enough how much he has left.”

I am not overly familiar with posting comments on LSB and don’t know how you all do the little grey inset box. But I sure hope this guy was being sarcastic.
egads dude
1) Guardado is like 40. 0 upside. 0 chance of improvement. 0 chance that he’s on the next winning Nats squad. and like 0 trade value.
2) The dude was considering retirement. I’ll wager even odds he doesn’t make it through spring training.
3) The dude had some seriously hideous runs. for example:
one game in April he gave up 4 runs on 4 hits in 2/3 of an inning, which cost us the game (we lost 7-5)
one stretch in June he gave up 6 runs on 8 hits in 3 and 2/3 innings over 4 games.
4) in the last two months of the season, he only pitched 10 times, allowing 5 runs in 7 innings.
and lastly but most damning
5) lefties hit .333 off him with an OPS of .919
Dude, if you are old, hurt, lefthanded, and can’t get lefties out. then the time has come to hang them up.
Some people, I swear.
I’ve been watching Eddie throw for The Rangers here for the last few seasons, and he’s done great.
What? This guy is high.
Not only that, but the fans here absolutely loved the guy- the stadium always went nuts when he came trotting out of the bullpen. The crowd went nuts because they were pissed that he was going to come in and blow the game.
If he feels like he has some juice, more power to him.Sure, better the Nats than us.
I guess we’ll find out soon enough how much he has left.I thought the last year and a half or so was pretty damn telling, myself.
Jimmy Johnson for GM.
"The crowd went nuts because they were pissed that he was going to come in and blow the game."
lol..so true. I can just picture this guy in the stands and everyone getting riled and and him looking around thinking they’re pumped cause it’s Eddie.
In all serious though, people did like to chant “EDDIE EDDIE”
I guess I never heard that because when I was at the ballpark I was too busy cussing him.
But yeah, I know people liked him. He’s a very respectable guy. He just doesn’t have the ability to be a major league pitcher anymore, in any capacity. He needs to just put away his glove and start his coaching career.
Jimmy Johnson for GM.
This reminds me of the Angels fans going all nuts because we signed Darren Oliver
Only worse.

We knew they were near a deal a couple days ago
No need to put this on the front page now.. we’ve already discussed in another thread 2 days. I could understand if the ‘near a deal’ had turned into ‘has signed’
Okay
You want no more Eddie Guardado updates or Maury Brown links. Got it.

This isn't even an update... that's the whole point.
I’m fine with updates… this story is just repeating almost word for word what was said 2 days ago.
Eddie? The Eagle? Or Eddie Vedder? (Happy 45th, pal!)

Mike E and MikeEl
are these the same poster, or are there 2 different ones?
What a drag it is being broke.
Different.
I get them confused sometimes.

Semi-serious question
If we had a manager who was super duper sabremetrics smart to the max, and that manager used Eddie as a left-handed ROOGY last year, would that have been awesome?

You are assuming...
…that that is what a super duper sabermetrics smart to the max manager would have done.
by Adam J. Morris on Dec 23, 2009 6:24 PM CST up reply actions
So, did you copypaste super duper sabermetrics smart to the max, or type it back out?
I actually didn’t realize that his line vs. righties last year was just kinda meh; I was thinking he was quite a bit better against righties (228/302/457).
Of course, kinda meh looks pretty fantastic compared to his line against lefties, which I won’t post here out of respect for the reading community.

Love every third Day Eddie
But I think last year should have been his final. Great guy, amazing how he fit into a uniform, great career.
