Best Rangers Moment of the Decade

Here's my vote...

September 23rd, 2004....David Dellucci.

Rangers close to within two in West

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- The way David Dellucci's luck had been going at the plate, he figured his hard-hit liner would be caught for the final out.

"I went from frustration to elation," he said.

Dellucci's hit was just out of the reach of a diving Jermaine Dye, and skipped into the right-field corner. The double drove home two runs to give the Texas Rangers a 5-4 win over Oakland on Thursday and a three-game sweep of the Athletics.

"We knew we had to do that," said Brian Jordan, who scored the winning run. "It definitely does a lot for our confidence."

Texas, a surprise contender after four straight last-place finishes, moved within two games of the AL West-leading Athletics with 10 to play. The Rangers have won five in a row and 10 of 13.

Since, technically, this decade doesn't end until the end of next year...

I’m going with the Rangers game 6 victory in the 2010 World Series to win a championship.

(But since no one thinks of 1930 as the last year of the 20s, the answer is clearly the Dellucci hit.)

What?

Don’t the 2000s run from 2000-2009? And the 2010s start in 2010?

Did somebody forget their coffee this morning?

The 1980s ended on December 31, 1989.

The 1990s began on January 1, 1990.

Yes, this decade ends next week.

And the Texas Rangers were only one of seven teams in MLB

that didn’t go to post-season this decade.

Texas, KC, Baltimore, Toronto, Montreal/Washington, Pittsburgh, Cincy.

The Dellucci Moment was the best which says so much about the futility of This Thing over the past decade.

Not really...

it’s the old “years didn’t start at 0” debate.

For perception, the decade ends in a week. And since time is perception, that’s how it will and should be remembered. In actuality, just like the new millennium actually began January 1st, 2001, the decade doesn’t end until December 31st, 2010.

I was at that game

That double came right by me. I almost pissed my pants I was so jacked up driving home. My wife couldn’t grasp why I was so jacked. Ahh the life of a Rangers fan.

Even watching that on tv was insane

I can’t imagine seeing it at the ballpark.

I gave up my season tickets to that game

to a friend.

Me too..

I was sitting third base side.

We must have been sitting close to each other.

I was 1st row behind the bullpen. On the SportsCenter clip of the Blalock home run, you can see me jump up. What a great game to be at.

I remember watching this game at a local gym

everyone stopped working out and was watching the game on the one tv there. It was pretty incredible to see the Rangers bringing DFW together like that.

still Partial to Max's play at the plate

I suppose it didn’t mean as much as the Delucci hit but that will probably go down as the play of the decade by a catcher.

That was a geat play as well

will always give me goose bumps.

I was going absolutely ape shit during that 1st round….I’d watch it again if I didn’t have to listen to Berman.

Part of me wants to say 30-3.

With the other possibilities being Delucci and Hamilton’s WOHR against the Angels last year.

by vfn on Dec 24, 2009 12:50 AM CST reply actions

Hmn

The 30-3 game was freakishly amazing and all that, but I don’t know if there was really a true emotional significance tied to it. Maybe when Vazquez hit the homer to rack up the big 3-0 on the scoreboard, but I dunno. It was late in the season and we delivered an incredible pounding to one of the few teams that had a worse pitching staff than us at the time. It was one for the record books, sure, but I don’t know if it rings as triumphant as the Delluci Double or the Hamilton walkoff.

I failed my LSB ethics test.

It's Dellucci..

that’s a bit sad, but it’s definitely Dellucci.

I remember watching the David's hit on tv, for me that was one of the best

moments in many years, in the 90s i remember Rusty Greer’s diving catch to complete Kenny Rogers Perfect Game, in the 80s it was Sierra’s game winner of of Roger Clemens on Monday Night Baseball, back then the rangers were rarely seen on national tv

i'm surprised that

no one’s mentioned last week, when mr. greenberg was offered exclusive bidding rights to the team.

more personal favorites:
-barajas’ walk-off homer against the yankees in 04 (i think). this holds special meaning because i was at the game and went positively bonkers the moment he made contact.

-a sunday night victory with r.a.dickey on the mound (we went 8 2/3) against the red sox that capped a weekend sweep. i was sitting by this guy dressed as captain caveman in honor of johnny damon.

-byrd’s game-winning grand slam against rivera in 08.

-the announcement of nolan ryan as team president.

Byrd's slam was off Damaso Marte

Girardi tried to play it cute and didn’t make the pitching change.

I'll go with Feldman K'ing 11 Rays back in August.

After debating whether or not he would ever be a SO pitcher or had TORP stuff weeks prior, The thought of his K/9 jumping above 6 for the year made me fist pump like a Guido.

My favorite was the last home game of 2004

when the Rangers got a full standing ovation for the good season then did a lap around the field waving and shaking hands.
