Boxing Day footy thread
Chelsea-Birmingham still scoreless 78 minutes in; Fulham-Tottenham the same after 67 minutes. And the day's just getting started! Everton vs. Sunderland next up on FSC at 9 am. Looking forward to seeing Landycakes playing for the Toffees, though I doubt he'll be in the lineup today.
Working on my first cup of Irish coffee, so hopefully I'll be good and toasty by the time Liverpool takes on Wolves at 11...

I watched a match yesterday: AC Milan v. Real, Champions League on Fox Sports en Español
Didn’t know if it was live or a replay… and I haven’t kept up with the CL very well…
Alls I know is the second half was bloody terrific… and Pato is a beast
Replay
But that’s a good match to watch if you’re into the Champions League- those two clubs have won 15 Champions League titles between them.
And yeah, Pato is one of the emerging young stars of European soccer.

Was that the first leg? Second?
When do they play again? My uncle said he thought those were the quartersfinals
Not sure
The knockout round (final 16) starts in late February.

Landon probably cant play till January
but as for Everton, we really need to start getting more than one point away from these teams. Granted injuries have been bad, but with the likes of Arteta, Jakielga, Yobo…. returning, it shoul, lld hopefully sltart to get better.

yeah, LD not eligible for a while yet is my understanding, too
Everton getting relegated would be mind-blowing
+1 on mind blowing
Although teams with similar talent have probably been relegated before, I just can’t see it happening. As is, the bottom half of the EPL is so stacked close together that if one of these bottom feeders can get on a hot run (like I hope Everton will), then they could get into the top half extremely easily. The funny thing about Everton is that though this may be a lost year, if they can get a good amount of their injured people back next year, imo its extremely possible they could break into that big 4, especially if the big 4 is broken up this year

Not a chance IMO.
They’ve been 5th for the last couple of years, but they’re always about 10 points off of fourth and they don’t have the money to compete against any of the Big 4, City or Spurs.
I'll agree to an extent
but there’s no doubt the talents there when healthy and they have one of the Premier League’s best managers in Moyes. You’re definitely right about the money issue, but the big 4 is nowhere near as invincible as they were 2 or 3 years ago as shown by Villa, Spurs and Man City. But for Everton, I think next year is the big year. Their attack could have Arteta, Cahill, Saha, Yakubu, Jo, Vaughn, Bilyetdeinov, Pinnear, Rodwell, Gosling, and maybe even Donovan. I dont see how any EPL manager wouldnt be scared to see a team with those players on it, which is going to put the pressure on Moyes to make sure they produce.

Jo’s on a season long loan and may not be back next year and Rodwell’s a centerback playing CDM. Really, if you look at the attacking group that you listed and compare that to the attacking group for any of the big 4 or City or Spurs, they pale in comparison.
Everton needs money or they’ll be passed up.
whoops
Somehow must have slipped me when I stuck Rodwell in there. Ultimately though, I think this attacking group can remain competitive with the rest of the EPL, but imo, the defense is gonna be a big problem, especially with the lack of money as you stated. Hopefully we can get some Saudi’s to buy us. heh

Is it worse than wide recievers in the NFL?
I can't help it. I’m an asshole.

Question...
Do you receive any sort of a “one year immunity” if you’re promoted to the EPL? Wolverhampton for example. If they end up in relegation at the end of this season, they just go right back to Football League 1 again?
BTW
I think it’s funny to hear the English fans chanting “USA USA” like Wolves fans were for Hahnemann today.
Pretty cool for Z
See Fabregas sub on, change the energy in the stadium and on the field and then score the wicked free kick.
And then re-injure himself
Hopefully, it’s not too serious. Still, it was a solid 20 minutes for him. It’s going to really suck when leaves for Barca.

Yeah it was really, really cool. I got Cesc’s goals on my vado from my crappy seat (though the view of the game even from there was really good), not sure if youtube allows that kind of thing to stay uploaded but I could try if anyone is interested. It was just a midseason game, but it was probably the most fun I’ve had at a sporting event.

Here is
the first Fabregas goal, pretty terrible quality, but it was cold and the stadium was shaking, and I didn’t want to zoom in because I wanted to get the whole scene. The other thing that kind of sucks about it is for some reason the mic really picks up nearby noise over the rest of it, so you can hear individual people clapping (which I couldn’t) and can’t really tell how loud it was.

Yes, except for the one or two I didn’t know.

Yeah, shame it ended up a goal
Kinda dulls my wanting to watch the 2nd half. Hull has had their chances. Maybe they can make it a draw. Not holding my breath.
And Rooney makes up for it
Awful pass. 1-1.

Isn't this the same ref that Ferguson called 'fat' earlier this season?
He’ll be whining post-game if ManU don’t win.
Wiley was noticeably having trouble keeping up in that game.
SAF was out of line calling him out in such a public manner, but what SAF was saying wasn’t incorrect.
Day at the office for Bellamy
so far, two shameful dives, one even more shameful undercut that nearly broke a guy’s neck, two missed easy chances from about 6-8 yards, and a nice setup on Tevez’s goal that probably wins the game.
Beating Stoke at home and Wolves away...
No way could Hughes have managed that…too Welsh.
Damn you Torres
Villa should have at least drawn
