I like seeing the other AL West teams

ranked that lowly, though personally, I’d probably have Oakland a little higher than that.

His ranking system leaves a lot to be desired

Red Sox at 11, A’s at freaking 17.

by LiamP on Dec 3, 2009 1:56 PM CST via mobile up reply actions

did you figure out the numbers from the article?

because the teams are listed in alphabetical order within the divisions

by ab03 on Dec 3, 2009 2:24 PM CST up reply actions

Crap, didn't notice

Either way, any ranking methodology that causes the A’s system to fall to 16-25 is pretty flawed.

by LiamP on Dec 3, 2009 2:42 PM CST via mobile up reply actions

Their better then that

But their overrated.

I agree

but if someone at BA disagrees I’m not ready to say their entire system must be flawed because they came to a different conclusion.

For star power I could see them being ranked low if

you don’t like Chris Carter, think Wallace won’t stay or suck ass at 3B and some people are down on Grant Green.

Oakland

graduated three of their top players (Cahill, Anderson, and Gio Gonzalez) and Ynoa/Inoa/? missed the season. Their system is deep, but I don’t think they have nearly the star potential that pushes teams to the top of these lists (whereas Texas still has Feliz, Perez, Smoak, and Scheppers). So it isn’t surprising that they fell quite a bit.

Not to say that Oakland isn’t a long-term threat still – the A’s will be the team to beat in the next 5-6 years; the Angels and M’s have much less big league talent to worry about long term to couple with their weak farm systems.

I just drove past JD, walking into the Ballpark offices, probably after lunch

He was wearing shades and walking with two suits

Some ding-dong driving a Navigator stopped at the corner of the intersection to get out and say hi and I almost hit it

that's nice but

what we really want to know is what some player’s wife from 5 years ago thought of tom hicks.

the big deal is the community rankings,

doing them brings up great debates and as a community we put together our top 25+ together.

I look forward to them every year. This is a first that Dirk hasn’t started.

Id say wait till after Xmas

Make the entire month of January one big leadup into spring training.

Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.

Braves sign another reliever --- Saito for 1yr/3M

not a bad deal. the guy has a minuscule career ERA. I’d definitely bet they aren’t bringing back Gonzalez or Soriano.

Seems like the off-season is starting to ramp up a little more today.

What's the deal

with foreign players and murder? This is the third guy since 2005, including Ugueth Urbina & Ambiorix Burgos, to be charged with murder in their home country.

Thank you for posting this. Hopefully Adam will make its own post.

How does the the MLB determine the order of Comp picks? By record last year?

by Hull Fan on Dec 3, 2009 3:11 PM CST up reply actions

Pretty sure its by the Elias ratings

If Pudge is the #12 player in their hierarchy signed by someone else then they get the #12 pick in the supplemental round.

I’d guess that Pudge is going to be get one of the last picks in the supplemental round honestly. His offense the last couple of years has been spotty and I didn’t think Elias did all that much with defense, though I could well be wrong on that account.

What do voluntary mean?

Woah, what?

Really? I thought we were suppose to have declined enough just from graduating talents that we weren’t in the argument for #1 anymore.

Obviously I don’t know anymore than BA, so, instead of arguing, I’ll be happily shocked.

by philkid3 on Dec 3, 2009 10:19 PM CST reply actions

No

we are definitely in the discussion for #1. Our depth and high end talent is pretty badass.

not that much depth though
