LSB Community Prospect Project: Post-Season #1
Here we are!
Because it appears that thedirkatron is still really busy with his job, I'll be starting the LSB Community Prospect Project for the Post-Season.
Players
Time to vote for the Rangers #1 prospect!
For video of most of them, check out prospecttube.com
The polls are open, so go ahead and vote in the poll at the bottom and feel free to make any suggestions and/or criticisms in the comments below.
And, as always, please don't hesitate to tell me you want on the list for next time.

Wouldn't it be better if it was voted on 25 to 1 than 1 to 25?
More suspense.

I agree

to diificlut because the bottom is to fluid and will probably really screw the rest up by the time you get to the top 5.

I think it would.
It’s better to tick off all the obvious names at the start, enabling you to add some of the lesser known guys as you go. Otherwise you just wind up with a freaking massive and confusing poll at the beginning.

it adds for more debate as well
and reduces confusion
A baseball game is simply a nervous breakdown divided into nine innings.
The problem is that it wouldn't work...
There are lots of players that would contend for the spot of #25. If somebody was voted in at #25, and you thought your choice for #25 was better, you might vote for that guy at 24. If such a pattern continued, many of the top prospects wouldn’t wind up on the list at all.

The top prospects on the list would be at the top of the list.
Not at the very bottom.

I went with Fleas
Chiefly because I’m too much of a pussy to vote Marteen number one

Went Feliz
Already broke into the majors and was really good. I still have question marks on him and am probably being overly skeptical about next years predictions, especially if he starts next year in the rotation. But overall he is the top guy for me.
- is going to be tough between Perez and Smoak
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.
That should be "#2"
I don’t know why it did that
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.
Not for me
I just can’t see Smoak as a better prospect than Perez, or even Scheppers, right now.
But I’m just a sucker for ceiling, and while I see Smoak’s ceiling as a guy who gets a few all-star games, I see Perez and Scheppers both as guys who could win a Cy Young before all is said and done…
Go Rice Owls!
I think Smoaks ceiling is much higher than that

an All Star first baseman is pretty high ceiling
What do you consider his ceiling? Hall of Fame first baseman?
The All Star first basemen in 2009 were Pujols, Teixeira, Prince Fielder, Adrian Gonzalez, Ryan Howard, Justin Morneau, and Kevin Youkilis. Don’t you think that being included amongst those names is a pretty high ceiling?

Thats a pretty high ceiling
I guess the way JB worded it cought me off guard. I see Smoak having the same ceiling as both Perez and Scheppers its just different being a positional player as opposed to a pitcher. I also think he has the best chance of reaching his ceiling IMO.

wow
you put scheppers ahead of Smoak.
Smoak represents what we need most in the lineup – a middle of the order bat with power etc.
A baseball game is simply a nervous breakdown divided into nine innings.
just because he fills a greater need
doesnt necessarily make him a better prospect.

this is true

yeah
I like Smoak, but I’m kind of worried that he may end up more like a Casey Kotchman than a Mark Teixeira (bracing myself for the outrage)
Though Smoak was born in Goose Creek, SC; which is where I was born too. Should be enough for me to vote him #1
Go Rice Owls!

I thought it might be endorsed by dirkatron.
Otherwise, I would feel a little bad taking part in it.

I'm conflicted also as Dirkatron could go on a "punting spree" if this isn't sanctioned.
With that said, I voted for Neftali.

Brian
do you have his email? He mentioned a couple weeks back in the Scheppers Rawks thread that he expected to be able to start these polls “Monday”, meaning Nov. 23 (his comment was posted on Nov. 19).
I agree we could wait a little if he’s about to do it, the offseason has a long way to go.

Think I should delete this?

Nah, wait and see what Dirky says
Both because it might be entertaining, and because he’s let t-ball do a poll or two in the past when he couldn’t. He might be cool with this, who knows.

I think this is the proper solution.
Go ahead and roll with it unless Tron protests. We can always just delete it and let him do it.
I was really just hoping
he’s alright and nothing is wrong with family and all that, and that if emailed he could say whether or not he was planning to start it soon. If not, I don’t think he cares much if we run ahead with the poll.
G G G E-flat_______ F F F D__________....
he can always pick it up when he comes in as well
usually he gets the prospect rankings going a little sooner. also, I like doing the rankings before other rankings systems come out as to not sway peoples opinions

No, just move forward
Hunter wouldn’t give a shit.
He ran these polls as a service to our little community. Apparently real life is preventing him from doing it this offseason, and someone else has stepped in to carry it on in his absence. No big deal, just move forward.

Yeah someone should email him...
he was gone for a few weeks then came back for a week or so if I remember right. He did say everything was okay and he thought he’d be starting the ranking, but if I recall he also said he had some shit he was trying to deal with.

Kinslerhomer,
Is this your personal list from top to bottom?
Seems like it is in a specific order for a reason.

I went back to see if Tron used to put them in alphabetical order or something similar.
Who was I kidding?
There is no order in the world of thedirkatron.

No, not really.

Should I start #2 or wait and see if Dirk writes back to BT?

Hmn...
Well, I’d say that depends on how much of a no-brainer you expect Perez at #2 to be. I suspect it’ll be another landslide for Marteen, so I’d just go ahead and start it. Even if Dirky wants to take over, he might appreciate having the two big no-brainers outta the way.

how long are you going to wait?
I don’t know what is going on in Tron’s life, and that is more important that whoever starts the poll of community prospects. If he is busy, I don’t see the problem and the reason for all the grief given.
And, if Tron returns, he can easily pick up the poll where it is left off. Like somebody said, this is a community prospect list and the ownership of it does not belong to one person, although Dirkatron has been monumental in leading the charge every year.
I, for one, would also like to talk about something other than the depressing news of ownership and our lack of funds etc.
A baseball game is simply a nervous breakdown divided into nine innings.
It's kind of like comfort food.
Just like lumpy mashed potatoes taste better when cooked by mom, community prospect lists just feel right when dirkatron initiates them.
I mean, we’ve got all this ownership crap to deal with this offseason. I could use something that’s a little familiar and happy.
