Wednesday a.m. Rangers things

Another quiet day on the Rangers news front...

David Brown takes a look at five Rangers prospects who could likely benefit from repeating a level in 2010.

Joe Sheehan did a chat session yesterday that includes several Rangers items.

I think that's about it.

I'm sad...

my little girl is turning 10 today. I’m not ready for it at all. It seems like just yesterday that she was 2 or 3 years old.

This decade has just flown by.

Yeah...

fuck that. Any little sheltered bubble boy that tries to get close to my daughter is getting my foot in their ass.

Besides, they can’t do the pre-marital thing and have to go on a mission first. So that means they won’t try too much ‘til they’re 20. Of course the area I’m in is only 50% LDS. I’m just as worried about the non-LDS teenagers as the LDS ones. I’m not looking forward to having a teenage daughter at all. As you can tell, I’m a little protective of her.

I know one girl from my high school

who got knocked up at BYU, so I think some of the boys don’t wait til their mission. You get one of them LDSers in their magical underwear, and you never know what they’ll do.

This is true...

or they try to do everything else and say they didn’t have “sex”.

They first guy that tries to convince my little girl that oral (or even worse) isn’t sex will also get my foot in their ass.

Okay I need to change the subject. I don’t even want to think about this shit right now.

Yeah, my niece is 9. My brother & his wife are already dreading the day she starts dating. At least she’s got a cop (her dad), two war veterans (grandpa & an uncle) and me looking out for her. We’re going to scare the unholy hell out of any boy she goes out with.

Well, some kids have sex

I sure as hell wasn’t one of ’em.

It’s funny, too- me and my youngest brother, who were late bloomers in that department? Never married, no kids. I’m 38, he’s 31.

My middle brother, who was having sex in high school? Married at 21, now 35 with 3 kids.

I have no idea if that proves anything about teenage sex, other than two of us Cook boys were total geeks in high school, while the other wasn’t.

he’s just pissed that his utes lost to BYU. If his daughter were Paul Krugers age he’d have her all over him in a heartbeat. The funny thing is that he’s the one who lives in SLC… who’s the “little sheltered bubble boy”? I believe, slc ranger, that would be you.

Hate to burst your bubble

but I was born in FT Worth and have been a Dallas everything fan since… it might also have something to do with the fact that my family is part owner of the Rangers and Cowboys.

Don’t flatter yourself, I’m not stalking you.

Haha...

which is why after all these years of being such a big fan you just now decided to join the blog and the only comments you are choosing to make are directed at me. What about the Rangers that you’re such a huge fan of? Care to discuss anything about them?

And good hell, your family is part owner of both teams? Wow, you must be awesome. Of course I’ve been to a few games and bought a burger and a drink or two so I guess I’m part owner too.

You trolled the U blog trying to stir shit up over there and now you’re doing the same here. No big deal. Welcome, I’m sure we will have plenty of fun at your expense. The LSB community is just like Provo, everything here is G rated, everyone looks the same, and we’re very polite.

Let's see

I’m pretty sure you started this whole post by talking about your daughter and how you hate Mormons. I’m sure you were trying to make some sort of comment about the Rangers, or baseball for that matter, fit somewhere in there.

Dude, I’m no major blogger, I’ve only been on sbnation for 3 months. I’m sorry that in the middle of the offseason I’m not taking every 5 minutes to post about the Rangers. Besides, I’m much more passionate about football, especially BYU, so naturally with that being in season I’m going to follow that a bit more.

“I’m sure we”? Again like on the U blog you speak as if everyone agree’s with you. I have nothing against nobody here. Just talk baseball and maybe you and I can exist liking the same team. I’ll go all day about the Rangers, but like the rules to the blog states keep it to baseball.

G G G E-flat_______ F F F D__________....

by t ball on Dec 30, 2009 4:00 PM CST up reply actions

Well

I assume that people drank more White Russians because they liked The Big Lebowski. Mad Men, and Draper specifically, is wildly popular. I just wonder if Draper’s drink of choice will now be the choice of those who like Mad Men much like people drank White Russians because of the Dude?

As to why this happens, I don’t know. Maybe we are trying to relate to a character by emulating their actions? Who knows.

by Excel Hearts Choi on Dec 30, 2009 4:09 PM CST up reply actions

I rented Casino Royale not too long ago.

And I drank 3 Vespers (the martini he invents with the girl’s namesake) the next night while watching Quantum of Solace. They really are quite tasty. So it influenced me for one day, at least, but thereafter I went back to my usuals.

the bitters

is what most bars don’t have when I try to order it. I should just carry it around with me.

Bitters with Orange

I’ve read that a traditional Old Fashion should have a twist of orange peel, some which I don’t normally have on hand. Looking around the local liquor store I noticed a bitters (forget the name exactly, but it seems to be popular) that has some orange flavoring already in it. Have you tried this, or do you stick with the traditional Angostura?

by Excel Hearts Choi on Dec 31, 2009 7:51 AM CST up reply actions

I use the traditional

and just put a chunk of orange, or sometimes some lemon juice in there. I have been known to throw some cinnamon in there too when in the mood. Messing with recipes is old fashioned.

G G G E-flat_______ F F F D__________....

by t ball on Dec 31, 2009 3:23 PM CST up reply actions

They're good.

If the bar doesn’t have bitters, order a Manhattan. Both are tasty.

weirdly wonderful cult classic (~mid 90s)

that’s not for everyone. The Mad World song was featured in the movie ( the movie itself became a smash hit in the UK while foundering in the US). For dark/sardonic high school coming of age films its in my top 3 for the genre with Heathers and River’s Edge.

Before they tore it down...

…I visited the bowling alley in LA where they filmed the exterior bowling alley shots (burning car in the parking lot, etc.). We went inside and my friend and I naturally walked up to the bar and ordered two caucasians. She starts making the drinks and my buddy says “Do a lot of people order white russians here?”

She slams down the bottle of vodka, glares at us, and sternly says, “Yes.”

I think I had like 6 that night.

Because I'm bored at work

I want to create a spreadsheet that calculates a bunch of crazy baseball stats. I know this is not necessary as these stats are just a couple clicks away whenever I need them, but I guess I’m just a dork. I want to do EqA, but I can’t figure out how park factor (PF), pitching adjustment (pitadj), or difficulty rating (diffic) are calculated. I’ve read the definition on BP, but it just says to set them all equal to 1…surely there is formula used to calculate these, right?
