wtf?

Dang.
I though we would get him.

Why the fuck would a Cuban want to go to KC???
I don’t get it.

I'm still in disbelief.
And, I’m getting more and more jealous by the minute.
KC is putting together a nice collection of arms: Arguelles, Montgomery, Crow, Melville, and Duffy. A second wave is behind that headed by a couple of LHP with great stuff but marginal command in John Lamb and Chris Dwyer.
Nice job by Moore of building that pitching prospect group.

I'm not jealous of KC's prospect depth, just jealous of KC landing Arguelles.
Having Arguelles would’ve erased all of the disappointment of not signing Purke. That’s what my post is getting at.
I have to think if comparing only the pitching prospects, KC’s collection would rank in the top 10. They’ve got something to work with over the next 5 years, but it might not arrive before Greinke’s contract runs out.

Too bad
Moustakas is a fat piece of roll over crap and Hosmer sucked his year (though couldn’t see or something). They can’t hit or field.

And
They don’t seem to give a shit about the Kilamonster.

Maybe because he sucks
He’s the KC version of Botts
I think Luke French has a lot of potential. TORP potential.-Dstar
Kila
Doesn’t have a massive hole in his swing like Botts does/did. His BB/K ratios are nearly twice as better in AAA, and his numbers aren’t the product of high BABIP’s like Botts where. Oh, and his minor league wOBA’s are actually better than Bottsy’s.
He’s also hasn’t been given a fair chance to even suck in the majors like Botts, so I don’t see how the two are really that comparable.

He's awful, and don't nitpick stats. It's rude.

What about Kila don't you like then?

"It's kind of a new stat that's in vogue" - Joe Buck on OPS
He's put up wOBA's of .466, .456 and .368 the last three years between AA and AAA
His power dipped this year, but before that he was looking fairly Nelson Cruz like. Yeah, he’ll be 26 next year, but he seems to have good strike zone judgement. If some of his power comes back I could see him being a pretty decent DH, and a good roleplayer if it doesn’t.
Not saying he’s gonna be super valuable, but calling him KC’s Jason Botts just seems a little extreme to me.

CHONE
CHONE has him at .243/.355/.393 for 2010.
That’s pretty bleah for a 1B/DH.

Problem with that most reports say that he can't hit good FBs.
Which is why the Royals haven’t given him any shot and why no team has come in and swooped for him.
Career .359 and your numbers are wrong.
.360 in 07 .427 in 08 and .368 in 09.

Oops. Apparently I made the mistake of reading his '08 AA/AAA split as individual years on Fangraphs
So yeah, his MiLB #’s look a lot worse now. My bad.

Numbers aren't everything
If you actually followed the Royals or watched some of their games you wouldn’t make these kinds of assumptions

Meh
Defectors are overpaid, in terms of prospect dollars.
They’re better investments than free agents, but inferior to INTL signees or drafted players. I’d rather sign 5 Robbie Rosses than a Noel Arguelles.
He's the one with the phat mad skillz
And he won’t choke like the Buffalo Bills

Weird.
Weird enough that he signs with KC at all, but to do so for less money than thought is just out there.

I mean it doesn't just feel out there but it feels out there, you know kinda radical in a kinda tubular kinda way, but most of all it feels out there?

Bull Durham and Major League are about the only two baseball shows that have been able to
sustain me through the offseason thus far. I keep having them on in the background at work via youtube just to take the sting off the goring this offseason has become.

My wife hates sports and baseball in particular...
but loves Bull Durham.
Watching it is really the only time we share the enjoyment of baseball.
Thank you Annie Savoy.

Alot of the International FA still available are signing for much below earlier rumored amounts.
It’s killing me to see the Rangers not involved at this late stage. It would be an opportune year to find incredible bargains and take their impressive run in Latin America the last few years to a whole new level.
A few examples from goyo:
Noel Arguelles signs with KC: ML deal 5yrs/7mill possible 2 million in incentives. Likely starts in High A ball and could finish the year in AA depending on how polished he turns out to be. That deal is less per year than TX offered Tazawa last year (~4/7.5). Disappointing indeed.
Jacob Beltre, 60k (!), Seattle
Santo Aybar, Milw
E. Moronta, 570 k (!), NYY
Jochy Ogando, 275k, Sea
Jiminian, 250k, Seattle (per one Dominican-based source)
It’s particularly troubling since Seattle has morphed itself into Texas, at least for this year. Jacob Beltre was considered the second best catching prospect, waited for an offer similar to Sanchez (the top guy, who got $3M), while waiting contracted a serious illness and lost 15 pounds and all desire to work out.
At least, Depaula and Chapman are still out there.
Anyway, this offseason on all levels of the Rangers organization deserves a bender.

Probably figured with the lack of KC depth
he might make it to the majors almost right away.
