Went with Scheppers based on promise.
This is where I could see things getting interesting, though. I considered Main for this one.
Why is Cooper on the list? Does he even qualify as a prospect at this point?

Also, where is Mitch Moreland?

Yeah, Scheppers is running away with it. Should have seen that coming.

Next one should be good
You could put Font, Ross or Main at #5
"I was going to say, 'You’re gay for Elvis.' But then I realized that I, too, am gay for Elvis." ~Adam J. Morris.
I think Gutierrez has to be in the discussion also
And in my personal opinion Kiker has to be if Ross is.
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.
I just don't see Kiker as a starter
"I was going to say, 'You’re gay for Elvis.' But then I realized that I, too, am gay for Elvis." ~Adam J. Morris.
See thats where we differ
I don’t think he has TORP potential but I do think he could hang on as a solid BORP if allowed. But I feel he will end up in the pen because thats where he will have more value to us.
The guy was leading or did end up leading the Texas League in Ks all while being one of its youngest pitchers so he has stuff to get guys out. Sure he is erratic at times and his late season slump marred his overall numbers but I am a huge fan. And until Ross does something in a full season league its a knock on him IMO especially since its been almost 18 months since we drafted him
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.
He needs a consistent breaking ball.
He needs to stop hitting and walking so many guys.
He needs to get a better plane on his fastball.
If these things don’t happen, he will not be a starter at the Major League level.

In most cases.....no
But for us in this instance I think so. We have several guys who seem could be solid BORP but who don’t seem like they could be as good a reliever as Kiker seems like he could be.

Yes
Now if that RP was a dominant set-up man, you have a different comparison and I believe the RP becomes more valuable.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

Kiker doesn't have the command/stuff combo Ross does
I don’t really think I’m comfortable ranking either all the way up at #5 though, as I’d like to see more of a sample size on Ross. Although I’d think about putting Main #5, and he hasn’t really shown that much more than Ross has…

I don't like his arm action
you can see why he’s had injury problems.

Finnerty hates you for saying that
But I agree with you, something to be said for an 8.6 K/9 for a 21 year old lefty swimming through AA all year

After garnering 100% of the vote...
Tanner Scheppers has won the right to be called the LSB Community #4 prospect.

strong top 4
I am wondering if all four of these guys get five stars from Goldstein. My guess is yes.
Nah
wouldn’t be shocked if only Feliz did, but Smoak or Perez conceivably could. Definitely not Scheppers though.

Pretty sure Feliz/Smoak/Perez will all be 5 star guys.
He’s not stingy enough with 5 star ratings that any of those guys will miss out. Dudes like Jacob Turner and Casey Crosby have received 5 star ratings so far, and I don’t think Goldstein will make the case that either of these guys are better than any of the Rangers trio.
Scheppers…I think Goldstein gives him 4 stars because of the shoulder.
I can't remember how many he tends to give out
I was thinking 20-25, and I think that at least one of Perez and Smoak makes that, but I"m not sure that both do, if that’s the right range.
by Brett Perryman on Dec 6, 2009 11:12 PM CST up reply actions
I think Smoak makes it
I’m not sure Perez does. When I’ve asked about him in the past, he seemed to give the impression that he wasn’t the biggest fan.
Smoak and Feliz were both 5 stars last season
I don’t see why Smoak looks any less impressive right now than he did last season unless Goldstein is going to let some AAA ABs knock him down that much. Perez and Scheppers both have a pretty strong case for being 5 star prospects, but I could see Goldstein being skeptical enough on both of them to keep them at 4 stars.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

Well
several posters here seem to have knocked him down that much as a result of AAA. I tend to agree that Goldstein won’t, but I’m not certain. He does seem to be liberally handing out five stars though. Sano/Jean and Aaron Hicks both got five today.
by Brett Perryman on Dec 7, 2009 3:04 PM CST up reply actions
I think Goldstein is a little more level headed than that
I’m also trying to remember what he had to say about Scheppers. I remember when people asked about Scheppers and his injury that he would let Will Carroll handle the question, but I would think that he would be pretty impressed by Scheppers too.

Alright...
who’s the fucker who voted for Ross and took the 100% away from Scheppers.
I demand you identify yourself.

Scheppers for the 3rd time.
Remember a few years ago when everyone claimed one prospect or another as “theirs” (dirkatron, wherever he may be, claimed Lemon, of course). Well, I never claimed one then, but Scheppers is mine now. Y’all can’t have him, your Smoak votes will haunt you forever (though obviously I hope not too much)
Go Rice Owls!
I got Vinny DiFazio...

Hate to tell you guys this...
but Main and Scheppers were mine before they were drafted. You can ask Jason Cole. I’m pretty pumped that they’re both in the Rangers system.

Besides
You voted for Martin Perez and Justin Smoak both above Scheppers. You obviously don’t stand behind the man as much as I do.

I'm simply being realistic.
It wasn’t two years ago, by the way, and I’m still sure I had him pegged before you knew his name :-)

went Main here...
but its a toss up between he and Tanner. The plus-plus athleticism is the tie-breaker for me.
