We’ll look back on this one and be thankful we dodged this bullet

Apparently I need to be a subscriber to find out exactly what the offer was

But if it involved Feliz and Smoak both, then yeah. Thank God the Marlins are dumb.

I failed my LSB ethics test.

Yeah, that's too much for me

given Johnson’s history. I’d give up one of those guys with a lesser prospect or two, but not two of our top few guys.

Shit.

If we were willing to give up our top 2 prospects for the dude, that guy must be tits.

He is. He's a fucking monster on the mound.

He has one of the hardest fastballs I’ve seen.

Yeah he's pretty badass.

I would still cry if we gave up Smoak and Feliz to get him though, even if we extended him.

Jimmy Johnson for GM.

Law is correct

This would have been awful. I’m still not convinced the trade was actually offered… why would JD offer Smoak to the Marlins when their second-best prospect (Morrison) is also a first baseman? Maybe if he was included in the swap, I might understand it…

by Conjunction on Dec 8, 2009 7:49 PM CST reply actions

um, per the Rangers FB page...

The Rangers made a run at Marlins pitcher Josh Johnson. At one point they were willing to trade Justin Smoak and Neftali Feliz. The Marlins weren’t interested in that one.

Holland and Davis

I could live with. I’d slit my wrist at Smoak and Feliz.

i think it had to be that the rangers were asking for something significant in return

but really, why would you do a trade like this?

this has bmac/danks written all over it. And it has nothing to do with how good you think these pitchers are, it’s that you are making a prospect for barely proven starter trade in order to get maybe a year jump start. there’s just no point

That can be read that the two were both in the deal or that each one were available in separate offers (as in, but not both). I tend to think the latter.

Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com reports that the Tigers are willing to move left-handed reliever Bobby Seay.
…..
It won’t be a surprise if Detroit calls the Rangers given the latter’s left-handed relief need. The club is also willing to move catcher Dusty Ryan and first baseman Jeff Larish, Morosi’s source said.

I hope JD denies this every happened

even if it did. I was finally coming around to giving him some credit for having something larger than a cat brain in his head, and I prefer to keep that mentality. If this had gone through I may have descended into something closely resembling how the Simpsons depicted Matt Groening in the 138th Episode Spectacular, wearing an eye patch and bolo tie and drunkenly wielding a handgun at anyone who comes close to me.

What is this, Horseville? Because I'm surrounded by naysayers.

for Josh Johnson. I’m told there’s “zero” truth to it. No such offer was made

Morosi says that Texas is interested in Cantu
The Rangers have strong interest in Marlins infielder Jorge Cantu, one major league source said Tuesday night.

So before you get too concerned over a Johnson for Smoak and Feliz deal… just think… Florida might let us overpay for Cantu, too! His career .780 OPS from DH/1B really get me excited. And we can have all that production for only $5 million dollars a year.

What a deal!

by Stephen Rushin on Dec 8, 2009 10:39 PM CST reply actions

please tell me

there’s no way JD would do this trade. If this trade went through, I might jump off a cliff.

by raiderz24 on Dec 9, 2009 12:05 AM CST reply actions

We are everyones stalking horse in prospect trades

considering we can trump any trade that we really feel like right now as long as its not for MLB proven talent. A pick two of Feliz, Smoak and Perez is something that most teams just can’t get near prospect wise.

What do voluntary mean?
