Wow, is that 75 words? lol
And also, cribbed from Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe, some interesting names who are out of options, and may have to be waived or traded:
Red Sox: George Kottaras
Yankees: Melky Cabrera
Cubs: Chad Gaudin, Rich Hill (possibly heading to Baltimore?)
Brewers: Tony Gwynn Jr.
Indians: Anthony Reyes, Andy Marte
Twins: Boof Bonser, Philip Humber
Rays: Jeff Niemann
Orioles: David Pauley
Obviously, this team would be looking for pitching, as always, right?
Neiman:
2006 23 AA MON 14 14 0 77.3 56 23 6 29 84 - 5 5 0 2.68 1.099
2007 24 AAA DUR 25 25 0 131.0 144 58 13 46 123 - 12 6 0 3.98 1.450
2008 25 AAA DUR 24 24 0 133.0 101 53 15 50 128 - 9 5 0 3.59 1.135
2008 25 MAJ TAM 5 2 0 16.0 18 9 3 8 14 1.00 2 2 0 5.06 1.625
If he were a Ranger prospect, would he be the 2nd coming of Danks/Holland/Feliz???
Gaudin:
2006 23 MAJ OAK 55 0 0 64.0 51 22 3 42 36 0.83 4 2 2 3.09 1.453

2008 25 MAJ OAK 26 6 0 62.7 63 25 6 17 44 0.93 5 3 0 3.59 1.277
He was very good as a releiver in 06, not bad as a starter in 07 & 08.
Humber, meh:

Beyond the many talked about on this site lately, what names on the above lists interest anyone?
What would it take to get Neiman? Do you want Neiman above the other out of option players?

a few notes:
Yankees: Melky Cabrera
recently signed a deal to avoid arb
Cubs: Chad Gaudin
would love to get him but i seriously doubt that he is cut
Scout: He was a first-round pick right? Got a huge bonus?
KG: Oh yeah.
Scout: Well, he spent a lot of it on milkshakes.

Gaudin isn't going anywhere and either is Bonser.
Gaudin is valuable to a pitching staff, starting or relief, and Bonser is good depth.
I watched Humber pitch here in Rochester a bunch of times and he really does sucks. One of the worst overrated NY prospects I’ve seen.

Nice post
It is safe to say however that all the most talented guys who are out of options probably aren’t going anywhere.
I've also got a 3-part post
over at my blog breaking down/ranking the most desirable FA for TX
Ah, never been there.
I ‘spose I’ll check it out sometime.

Well, now you know how we feel reading your attempts at humor.

Don't you have more words to conjure up into thoughts which you type into sentences which I just gloss over?

Why would you care?

Because as silly as some of your statements, you are a dedicated member of this community.
And that deserves respect.

No offense, oc
But something tells me your respect or approval isn’t something I really want/care about.

I find oc's attempts at humor much needed and fairly original.

He has his moments
Nobody can deny that.

Humber and Niemann
As a Rice devotee, I would be remiss if I didn’t say that I’d like to see them in the Rangers organization. But as someone far too familiar with the historical failings of Rice pitchers in the pros, I can’t imagine actually giving anything up for them.
I will say that Niemann is far preferable of the two – he’s the one Rice pitcher who I thought would overcome the curse. I never got the Humber-hype, he was the 3rd best pitcher at Rice and I think was overrated by being in that rotation along side Townsend and Niemann.
If our scouts looked at Niemann and saw something that was good, then by all means go for him. Just don’t give up anyone too special for him.
any chance
the twins would trade Boof for Metcalf? I still think Boof has the talent to have a solid ML career in some capacity, and we are in a position going into this year with the injuries to Benoit and Hurley already to give some chances to guys like him.
If the Twins were willing to start last season with Mike Lamb at 3B, perhaps Metcalf’s rep as a solid defensive 3B and what we can politely call his offensive potential would be intriguing to them. We can then roll with Duran as a utility guy.
Metcalf...
I believe he will be DFA’d sometime during spring training.
"The only good is knowledge and the only evil is ignorance."-Socrates
that's why this makes sense
Boof is out of options and has had only marginal success in a pitcher friendly ballpark, and last summer there were a flurry of rumors they were looking to deal him.
We may have to include a prospect in the deal
Not anyone of consequence, though.
