Big Donkey to the Nationals

Washington has signed Adam Dunn, 2 years, $20M

http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20090211&content_id=3817580&vkey=hotstove2008&fext=.jsp

The Astros apparently were a late player for Dunn...Pence would've been the hardest working man in baseball with Dunn and Lee on each side.

Seems a bit pricey when compared to what Abreu got, but still a fraction of what he was seeking, and a 2-year commitment for an in-his-prime slugger is hard to question.

Dunn

He needs to DH. He’s not worth this.

I thought his price dropped to $5M per year...

How did he manage to get $10M a year, especially from a team as notoriously cheap as Washington?

Nats...

had to over pay to get him to go there and I think Washington has been trying to sign a big name all winter.

Washington is cheap?

Are you on crack? Do you know what they offered Tex?

$20M/year for someone preceived as a better hitter and far better defender

Meanwhile, the Nats are famous for sticking to slot for draft picks.

Slotting

They haven’t always been that way, even in recent years. 2007 was a bigger year for them, Jack McGeary being the most obvious example of slot-busting. He got $1.8M in the 6th round.

Scout: Well, he spent a lot of it on milkshakes.

$6.67m per outcome.

More than I thought he’d get.

Over at LL, Jeff has a breakdown of how the Nationals plan to field their 9 outfielders.
