Wow. Derek Holland at 40.

And Andrus at 73.

Andrus at 73 doesn't shock me.

Holland at 40 does a little. Even with only one year of good baseball, Golstein has slobbered over him so much I’m surprised one year wasn’t enough for him to put him higher.

yeah,

I had forgot Goldstein’s Andrus hate when I posted that.

Having him in the top 100 prospects is hate?

Well hate is to strong,

I should have said that he’s nearly as hign on him compared to some other guys.

Considering his best year

is a .775 OPS (Rookie ball at 16) and his average year is a .704 OPS and he has been consistent in the minors having an error every 3 or 4 games at all levels, it may be the guys who have him higher is wrong. So far, all you can mark him up for is tools and his age. He hasn’t exactly lit it up on the field yet.

I’ll be happy if MJH is right, and he becomes Tony Fernandez or Renteria. That would be exceptionally good.

Get off my lawn.

by DJCahill on Feb 13, 2009 2:51 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

That would be exceptional.

I might be higher on Tony Fernandez than the average joe, but I’ve got him as a borderline Hall of Fame case (probably the best shortstop I probably wouldn’t put in ever).

And Renteria might get in, but mostly for playing so long he’d get to 3,000 hits. I probably wouldn’t put him in, but still a good player for a long time.

by philkid3 on Feb 13, 2009 2:52 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I am a little surprised

that he ranked him a little on the low end, since he was on him so much earlier than other national sources. BA will have him in the 20s if their three top 50s are a correct indication.

Also, this is the second reputable source that has Bowden ranked higher than Holland. Someone remind me why we shouldn’t trade from our catcher surplus to get this guy + a nice RP prospect?

Well I’m not fine with Bard as the second player. Not a fan on one-pitch relievers with a history of horrible control issues. Give me Hagadone of give me death.

I’m not even sure I’d want Masterson as the second player. Kam Loe redux.

Simple

He is at 31 b/c he is a sure fire guy to be a solid player.

The problem is that no one thinks he can be anything more than a #3 starter, and that has questionable value for a catcher. Id be more inclined to take a chance on a younger guy with a higher ceiling than a guy like Bowden

Cool

Feliz – 6
Smoak – 22
Holland – 40
Main – 66
Beltre – 68 (!)
Andrus – 73

I thought Price was going to be 1. I don’t really know much about Wieters, though.
Also, they really like Beltre and Main!

I’ve read that Brignac is basically Bartlett with a little more pop.

A few things surprise me...

No Martin Perez . No Julio Borbon. Engel Beltre that high and ahead of Andrus. Derek Holland at 40 (should be in the 25-30 IMO). The high rankings of Stanton and Inoa bother me.

andrus

far and away i think

keep in mind that a LOT of this main talk stems from this offseason (i have to remind myself)

MAYBE beltre also

It's either Andrus or Borbon.

And lately probably more Andrus, but both of them really for the same reasons.

I think Lemon’s a little polarizing, too.

And Teagarden and Ramirez as a pair are up there.

-The Outlaw

by Gdawg on Feb 13, 2009 1:00 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I think the big distinction

is Beltre’s power potential. For me, Andrus has really moved to another planet in his pitch recognition and patience at the plate, but we know from KG’s other comments that he does not view Andrus highly in that regard either.

by Brett Perryman on Feb 13, 2009 1:09 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I have Beltre ahead of Andrus

and I’m a pretty big Andrus guy. Elvis’s upside is something like Edgar Renteria or Tony Fernandez. Beltre’s upside is something like Carlos Beltran or Junior Griffey. If you prioritize “upside” over “likelihood of reaching it” like I do (and Kevin does for the most part), then you’ll go with Beltre over Andrus. The one that baffles me is Holland.

That is quite a collection of boom/bust guys. Maybin and Stanton have great potential but big questions about their control of the strike zone (though people say that about Chris Davis as well). And Skipworth is a pretty typical ‘shoot for the stars’ 1st round HS catcher pick.

ScotMartin

10 catchers on the list and not one of them with the Rangers. Is it Teagarden’s bat and Ramirez’s defense keeping them off the list?

baron davis and chris cayman or however you spell it for kidd

and the mavs turned it down. as a rangers fan and an expert on knowing when he sees teams who are going nowhere fast, im glad im convinced NBA is an illegitimate sport.

hey but you can cheer for the lakers and celtics both created championship calibre franchises by giving up jack shit to get the final pieces to their teams…. … go NBA!!

Yeah

that whole Gasol trade was one of the most one sided trades ive ever seen. The Mavs got to the level a few yrs back where anything but a title became unacceptable however the notion of rebuilding always seems unacceptable to their owner. Im in the camp that says they just need to tear it down and start over. However, that would be tough because that means that 2010 is probably a lottery pick for the NETS!! Effing Harris-Kidd trade. I think that Cuban thinks he will end up luring Bosh or James here after 2010.

Wade

He can play in Dallas, on the condition that he correct the stupid-ass way his first name is spelled.

As far as I’m concerned, his name is pronounced “dwy-ann,” like Diane, but with a “w.”

And

While the Bdiddy, Caveman trade is intriguing, I think we were wise to say no. Baron will kill you.

That wouldn't surprise me

They apparently don’t want any contracts that run past 2009-10.

Not true

Cuban said he isn’t totally opposed to it, just has to be the right player.. Baron isn’t that player.

2010

That trade would have taken them out of the 2010 free agent spending spree and would not have made them that much better this year. Davis is too injury prone for my tastes.

Micheal Inoa.

Sigh…

I hate the A’s so, so much.

I hate Michael Young.

Yep,

is it just me or do you think that the MLB would have looked in to the Rangers for Bean instead of blowing it off like they did at JD’s request for them to investigate the A’s?

I think Budford Selig runs MLB so I'd think there is always a 100% chance of MLB taking the most fucktarded course action.

I look at it this way

We’ve got Justin Smoak, they’ve got Inoa.

That of course eases my hatred of their slight-handed theft of Inoa, or evens the score, but it’s something to tell yourself.

Yeah. Spies. They're little guys with beady eyes and long fingernails. They plant bugs that can pick up the hush of a man's heartbeat - or the whisper of a falling hair.

I'd take Inoa and Hicks/Martin/Wallace (who were our other options, imo) over Smoak and whoever the hell our consolation prize was in the LA market this year.

I didn’t follow the Inoa thing to closely, I thought the Yankees had first “dibs” on him via verbal agreement, but when he backed out of that they refused to talk with him. Where the Rangers in on him before or after that?

Inoa

The story I heard was the A’s broke the rules and had an agreement with him before they were allowed to. The Rangers were in on him, but his adviser may have been dirty and taken money to steer him to the a’s.

I can’t remember 100% of the details but the thats the gist.

The Rangers also

had the highest offer.

The Rangers had the highest offer but never got to make it cause the A's had an agreement in place before the "official negotiating period" even started.

Or so the story goes.
