Friday afternoon video
Joaquin Phoenix's weirdness on David Letterman prompted some comparisons to Crispin Glover's bizarre behavior on Letterman back in the day, which inspired me to go find this:

To me
That seemed a lot more genuine crazy. Not Margot Kidder crazy but still, pretty damn weird. Phoenix seems like a bit.
God I can’t wait for the first ST game.
They're both bits.
I saw some other clip where Glover admitted as much.
But the real story here is the greatness of NBC Letterman, not the tired antics of some “dork” or two.

It might have been a bit to Glover, but I think Dave's reactions were real!
All time classic Letterman!

i don't know the history of this whole thing
and I was 4 when that originally aired, so I have to ask. Was that for real? Or was that some Andy Kaufman shit?
Classic
I remember thinking at the time that it was just some really failed comedy. The slo-mo replay of that kick they did I think the next show showed how close he really did get to hitting Dave’s head.

Late Night appearance
Glover is often remembered for his appearance on Late Night with David Letterman8 on July 28, 1987, to promote his new movie Rubin and Ed (the release of which was actually delayed until 1991)9. Unbeknownst to Letterman and the audience, who didn’t recognize the character from the as yet unreleased film, Glover appeared in character as the titular Rubin, wearing his costume from the film (platform shoes and a wig) and staged an Andy Kaufman-like shtick. After being goaded by a woman in the audience (who some argue was a plant10), Glover became incensed and stated that he “knew that this was gonna happen [sic]” and that “the press, they can do things, they can twist things around”. After a failed attempt to challenge Letterman to an arm-wrestling match, Glover delivered an impromptu karate kick just inches from Letterman’s face while shouting, “I’m strong… I can kick!”.11 Letterman then abruptly ended the segment by walking off stage, saying “I’m going to check on the Top 10”, and the program cut to commercial. The studio audience and Letterman himself were apparently shocked by Glover’s behaviour and assumed he was being himself.
The subsequent confusion and controversy surrounding his appearance was compounded by the fact that Rubin and Ed was not actually released until 1991 (although it had been in development since before Back to the Future — Crispin had actually already devised the character’s “look” by 1985).12 Almost no-one, apparently including Letterman, understood what Glover was doing and the interview became the hallmark of the “weird” TV guest. Most people still are unaware that it was a performance.
Glover returned to the Letterman show two-and-a-half years later for a much more normal interview, although he refused to answer straight forward questions about his previous appearance.

Joaquin Phoenix on Letterman
That clip just screams, “I’m a full-blown alcoholic who’s blown all my Hollywood money on Scientology! Begone Thetans!”
The moves being made are too extra for my taste.
Here is a top 10
weird Letterman interviews compilation:

Off topic, but thats for the suggestion of the canon 40d. I got it instead of the xsi for not much more.

cool
how do you like it? The price dropped all the way down to like 768 on amazon then shot up right after new years by about 100$+. If you got it at that price, you ’da man. I hope I can find it at that price during the summer. I decided not to get it because I am taking a B/W film class and bought a much cheaper EOS 1N instead for about 175 on KEH.
wasnt quite that cheap but not too much more (cheaper than amazons current price). got the 28-135 lens with it, which serves my needs for a while.
Haven’t had much time to test it out since i just got it last week. But so far the one thing I love over the xsi is the aperture wheel on the back and the grip of the camera.
Now I have to read the 2 manuals it came with to figure out the million and one settings.

Sort of an ironic coincidence that AJM would put that clip up on today of all days.
