Adam Eaton is peeved
Adam Eaton is unhappy, and wants the Phillies to release him.
The Phillies, of course, would be happy to trade him for a 26 year old backup Midwest League catcher if someone would just pick up, say, $500K of the $9 million Eaton is owed for the season. That isn't happening, though. And Eaton isn't helping matters:
Asked if he'd consider starting the season in the minors, Eaton said, "If we get to that point, I'll be released. And I don't think that's the end of the world by any means. It would be kind of prudent not to trade for me. I'm not going to accept another assignment. It doesn't take a rocket scientist for another GM to maybe wait and take your shot at getting me for less than a trade would be."
Okay...let's say Kevin Millwood or Vicente Padilla gets hurt this spring, will miss the first couple of months of the season.
Would you be willing to pay $500-750K of Eaton's salary, and give the Phillies nothing of value in return, to take Eaton and see if he can get things straightened out here?

Hell no
After all, he didn’t want to pitch here, remember?

im skeptical that he'll have much to offer
but if the FO thinks its a good baseball decision, id be fine with it. if he did show something in the first few months then we could roll with him to add depth to the rotation or try to move him for something of value (maybe a moscoso type guy) when our injured veteran returns.

How is this guy still in the Major Leagues?
He always gets hurt and even when he’s healthy, he’s produced only one season with an ERA+ > 100. Weird.
Many years ago
And that was as a 22 year old rookie in only 22 games.
It’s amazing that ANYONE in baseball would have wanted this guy even 4 years ago.
I gotta wonder how a smart blogger would even possibly waste his time or ours posting about him. It really is amazing that he’s still in the majors
You bought a Eaton t-shirt?!?

But I’d give him that much to stay away.

I only want him if the Phillies will accept Matt Harrison and Justin Smoak for Eaton and Ryan Madson.

I don't understand the complexities of being an overpaid baseball player, but it seems to me that it would do him some good to go back to Reading to pitch against guys he might be able to get out.
I find it hilarious that Eaton thinks he’s too good to be reassigned.

I thin he's just being realistic
he knows that if he gets released he can either…
a) sit on his couch all year while making $9 million bucks
or
b) still play in the Majors by playing for another team, possibly one in a Pitchers park, and get paid again next off season.
Maybe he’ll get released and sign with SD again.

in baseball it does no good
to carry around painful past emotions. However, it probably does some good to not forget that some players have a track record of a poor statistical line. Not to mention the injury bug. On a related note, the Cubs paid too much for Milton Bradley.

If you spend 450 to 500 thousand
you could have 5 to 10 mercedes. Why would you want a washed up,screwed up, lousy pitcher.
Anytime a guy like Eaton
gets mentioned, the Rangers should put the proposed price tag in a piggy bank. And then break it open for the next Inoa.

What's ironic is
He pitched 6 innings of 4 hit shutout ball that game – obviously the one and only time he did that in a Ranger uniform though.

G G G E-flat_______ F F F D__________....
I'm envisioning a scenario where Eaton comes back and pitches us to a World Series Championship in '09 (going 6-0, with a 0.25 ERA in the playoffs).
After the final game is over JD then walks up behind Galloway taps him on the shoulder and whispers, “This was my plan all along”.
And then when Galloway tries to make one of his patented hilariously sarcastic replies, JD sucker punches him in the penis and leaves him to bleed out on the floor.

This is completely random...
I really don’t think much of Eaton as a pitcher at all, but I remember Josh and Tom interviewing him during a game when he was on the DL here and he was talking about how he had come to love Shiner, and I felt this grudging like for him at that point. I know it’s stupid. I would’ve liked him a lot more had he, you know, pitched and pitched well for the team that I love. But I like Shiner, too. So there’s a small part of me that always hears “Adam Eaton” and thinks, “God bless that bastard, he enjoys Shiner.”
he says that about every beer...
I remember seeing a similar interview when he was with the Phils about Yeungling

Hopefully the Phillies understand the concept of the sunk cost and will just release Eaton.
He wasn’t even invited to the World Series parade, for what it’s worth…

NO except maybe for Cat
My first inclination was Hell NO!. But I started thinking that if Jones earns a spot and the Rangers decide to dump Cat., why not just trade Cat for Eaton and $1-2MM? If you later decide to dump Eaton, it costs the same as it would have if they had dumped Cat instead.
Signature! I don't need no stinking signature!!
