Mariners finally sign Josh Fields
The Mariners have (finally) signed first round pick Josh Fields, a closer for Georgia last season.
Because he was a senior, the August 15 deadline applicable to other draftees didn't apply to him, and the M's had until this year's draft to sign him.

Took them long enough
Got to like it though that a 23 year old is just now going to start playing in some pro ball.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

Link?
How much did he get?
Cause unless he came at a huge discount I think the M’s were dumb as hell to throw down on him at this point.
Plus, Fields just annoys me. I saw him do an interview once and he broke the record for number of times an athlete referenced God in a single interview. It just sounded so fake.

He's got some Tebow in him?

I tried to find a youtube video of the above mentioned interview, but I think God confiscated.
“That’s nice and all, it’s just that it’s… It’s too much”, He probably said while twirling His beard.

They were squabbling over $500,000
Because of the hold-out, I would assume he got close to $2 million.
Everything I’ve heard suggests his future is as a closer.

Seeing as how the Braves only have Francoeur locked down in their outfield, shouldn’t the Rangers be entertaining Marlon Byrd and Nelson Cruz as options?
Would anybody else like to see Tommy Hanson in this rotation?

Byrd or Cruz wouldn't get you Hansons jock much less Hanson himself
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.
That's why you offer many players!

They may prefer Murphy

They have their own Murphy.
His name is Brandon Jones.
And with Schafer due up soon (June? July? Sooner?) they really don’t HAVE to go get anyone.
Diaz and Jones are a fine platoon in LF if worse comes to worse, imo, and that Blanco character plus whoever they can scrounge up off the waiver wire could hold down CF for a month or two without completely sinking their battleship.

Gregory is a very solid player.

See...
Here’s the problem with the internet.
With no non-verbal cues to work from, I’m not sure if this is serious or facetious.

Okay
But if you want Tommy Hanson — and don’t get me wrong, I’d love to have him — you’re talking about parting with Hamilton as part of the deal.
Byrd or Cruz as part of a Hanson deal isn’t realistic.

I would love to see Tommy Hanson in this rotation
And I have no doubts that JD would too. But Hanson has about as much chance of arriving in the Rangers rotation as Jake Peavy.
Keith Law: (1:45 PM ET ) I think Michael Young should shut his mouth and move to third base.
offer Chris Davis
and talks would get real serious real fast.
"drawing walks is an overrated trait in my eyes."
"i do believe we could have 4 30 start pitchers in the rotation."

um, sorry... But Crush
is not going to be traded. Justin Smoak can got wait. Chris Davis is not going to be traded

I thought about Davis...
…but the Angels just added Kotchman, and I’m not sure that they’d deal Hanson for Davis straight up.

And i damn sure whould NOT
deal Davis straight up for Hanson.

i'll tell you who i really like
The CWS 1st round pick Gordon Beckham. Beckham is alot like Chris Davis. Both Beckham and Davis might just be the best all around young players in MLB

Davis > Smoak
i’m about sick and tired of people talking about Justin Smoak over Chris Davis.
A Texas Designer's Map of the World
Why?
Both are (well, should be, anway) excellent players. Smoak just profiles as a more complete player than Davis since he’s a switch hitter, and figures to walk more and probably produce a higher average. Davis has more pure power, but unless he learns to walk and eliminate some of the holes in his swing, he’s not going to be as complete a hitter as Smoak projects to be (which, by all reports is a Teixeira-lite).
That said, Smoak still has to get there first, but Davis also has to show he can adjust to MLB pitching over a full season (which I have just as much confidence in him doing as I do Smoak developing as advertised, but still) – it’s not a forgone conclusion that he’s going to be a 40 HR a year guy either. Furthermore, he’s a Boras client, which tends to mean said player will be gone after 6 years (if he’s not traded first) unless signed to a massive extension.
Yeah. Spies. They're little guys with beady eyes and long fingernails. They plant bugs that can pick up the hush of a man's heartbeat - or the whisper of a falling hair.
