Angels sign Santana: 4 years, $30 million
The Angels avoid arbitration with Ervin Santana and buy out a free agency year with a 4 year, $30 million deal.

Pretty fair deal
Though I’m not a fan of Santana in the least. I’m curious to see how he responds to getting paid. My guess is not very well, given his maturity issues.
I pretty much detest anything associated with the Angels, but I've always had a soft spot for Ervin Santana.
- Let’s face it: it’s a good beard.
- ‘54’ is a very obtuse number. Ervin is very deep and presumably writes in a journal.
- I actually wanted to trade Teixeira for him and Kotchman because they both were able to contribute right away. Kotch was going to be our plus-defense, .300 hitting first baseman and Santana was going to figure it out.
- ‘Ervin’ is a cool name.
- Santana is one of the best guitarists ever.
- I’ve met 13 Panamanians in my life. And they were all pretty nice.

So I guess if you were going to pull off the 'gangsta' ballplayer look you'd have to:
- be of Latin descent
- fit your cap so that the bill is tilted to one side
- have your hair in braided locks

he was more enjoyable to watch in ’07 when the Rangers and every other team would smack him all over the park, especially on the road.
Nothing is as fun to watch as seeing a Halos pitcher look like a Rangers pitcher.

F'd Up OT: Kenny Lofton
he was awesome when we had him, we flipped him into max and he only sat out IIRC b/c he wanted a 2 year deal…
i loved the old school professional style that guy brought and he had a smart approach to the plate that pitchers feared. worst case scenario, jones is fat and useless, byrd or murph (and the magictones) goes down and Cruz is inconsistent early, is a guy like that an option, i know its an obscure snag, but that guy was class and an asset here…

cheap for Manny?
It looks like you would have to offer him something like 3/65 or 2/50 to get him right now. I just don’t think that is the best way to go with all the bats the Rangers have right now.
