Andrus doesn't look like he's slapping at the ball to me

Not bad
Looks like he has the toe-tap down.

Andrus...
Not really slapping the ball, but it doesn’t look like he is transferring his weight very well either. Doesn’t look like he loads up on his back leg much, and he seems to be transferring his weight back to his front leg too early. In my amateur opinion of course.

But, i thought i saw Rudy get a mini-chub watching smoak

It's a little better if you use the HQ option.

One suggestion for this
If you add a new video, also change the title and add that day’s date so we know to check for the new vids.

That’d be awesome.

Interesting to see Jones
Does he have anything left at all? I have to admit having a rejuvenated Jones fitting between Hamilton and Davis would be pretty formidable.

Yeah
Andruw does look like he’s in much better shape, I’ll give him that. With Byrd’s knee coming into question, seeing Andruw in camp and working out suddenly becomes a lot more important…

Few thoughts I had while watching
Smoak-stud
Andrus-looks like a good swing, though it looks like its in slow motion
Hamilton-looks to have real good bat speed
Feliz v Smoak-wasnt sure what to root for here

the biggest kick
I get outof these videos is seeing Smoak, Elvis and Holland in Ranger blue. Brings it home a little more than seeing them in Hickory or Frisco uni’s.
Can’t wait until Smoak hits Frisco. That guy is going to be fun to watch

andruw
color me unimpressed
i mean, i know that hes dropped the weight and it was (is?) early on…but still
question: what are the odds/chances byrd starts off the season on the DL?
Scout: He was a first-round pick right? Got a huge bonus?
KG: Oh yeah.
Scout: Well, he spent a lot of it on milkshakes.

Feliz v Smoak
When pitcher pitch BP, how hard are they throwing them in there? It certainly doesn’t look like he’s throwing high 90’s heat.
by NorCalRangersFan on Feb 18, 2009 11:29 AM CST reply actions 0 recs
Right
none of the pitchers are throwing full speed yet, that would be stupid.

Agreed
I was more questioning how fast they will eventually throw it. Will they pitch like its a game, or will they lob grapefruits in there so the batter can take some hacks. Or is it somewhere in between.

This just in....
Josh Hamilton is pretty good!! I swear he disturbs the weather system when he swings the bat, so scary.
Andruw Jones looks alright.
Neftali Feliz looks like he has a slingshot attched to the end of his arm. The ball just shoots out of there.

Is it just me or is B-Mac bending his front leg more?

Ya know, I know it's only ST, and they're going over the fundimentals...
But seeing Chris Davis bunt just reminds me far to much of Dusty Baker/Adam Dunn. If we actually see Chris start bunting during games this year, I might break something. Lots of things, actually.
God I hate bunting.
Yeah. Spies. They're little guys with beady eyes and long fingernails. They plant bugs that can pick up the hush of a man's heartbeat - or the whisper of a falling hair.
by lonestarJon on Feb 19, 2009 4:59 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
Why?
Bunting is an integral part of the game. Runners on 1st and 2nd no outs and bottom of order, you gotta bunt. Moving runners is key.
by brandallini on Feb 19, 2009 5:18 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Well, perhaps I should rephrase
I hate people who fall in love with bunting and overuse it. Bunting has it’s place, and when used correctly can win you games. But when you’ve got an offense like ours, and play in a ballpark like ours, bunting just to be bunting is pretty damned stupid. And that’s something Washington does too much of, IMO (having players bunt just to be bunting).
Yeah. Spies. They're little guys with beady eyes and long fingernails. They plant bugs that can pick up the hush of a man's heartbeat - or the whisper of a falling hair.
by lonestarJon on Feb 19, 2009 5:24 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
No, it isn't.
Bunting is a late innings/close game play only in the AL. When you have pitchers and defense as bad as the Rangers, you play for crooked numbers.
Giving up outs to move runners early in the game when your pitching is gonna give up 5 or 6 runs a game is borderline retarded.
Get off my lawn.
by DJCahill on Feb 19, 2009 7:59 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Although
I agree that if CD is bunting on a regular basis, we obviously have problems.
But, why the hate for bunting?

Salty looks pretty quick
…though I’ve never really seen a catcher repeatedly working on that skill. He seemed to pop to his feet in throwing position pretty quickly. Was that quick for a catcher who knows the ball is going to be in the dirt?

Byrd
His toe tap looks very awkward. It doesn’t seem to be part of the flow of his swing at all. Did he always look like that, or is this some tentativeness after knee surgery?

I've always noticed Marlon to be a little 'jumpy' in the batter's box... as in his feet seem a little nervous.
I picked up on it last year and it kinda made me laugh because I’m usually the same way if I step into a 70-80 mph cage.
I can never plant my feet correctly… probably because I’m just too excited to be hitting.
You watch too many movies Sax.

Here’s video of his five hit game against the Red Sox last August.
Notice how he kinda double-pumps with his toe as he steps into the pitch…

He's not tapping on the (forward) swing
He’s stepping forward as he brings the bat back. Then there’s a distinct pause. And then his feet are stationary during the swing. Most hitters seems to step forward as they are swinging forward as part of the weight shit. And even when they don’t have a real step forward, their toe tap is part of the swing, not the back-swing. It just looks strange to me. Its like he was told to do it, but doesn’t really feel comfortable doing it during his swing, so he gets it out of the way before he swings.
